Rolling Stone wrote "... it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. _This_ is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. _-N.C."_ The video is from Hulu. It seemed like the director was actively avoiding whoever was playing at the moment. They _are_ having fun. Sitting on their hands for 2 1/2 years made them REALLY appreciate playing for live audiences. It's a privilege and they know it.

They were extremely excited to be playing Lollapalooza, it was a dream come true for them.
It started at about 1:30 PM.
The crowd was estimated at 5000 people when they started and ended an hour later with 20,000 people.
Also, American camera coverage of musical acts is a running joke in Asia.

Lollapalooza was broadcast live on Hulu. The director was clearly not familiar with Band-Maid, hence the soddy camera work. What you hear is as raw as it gets. There is no post-production on this video. It is just as it was when it was broadcast live.

There is a 5 part documentary on each member of Band-Maid, by 'Ohrenje'. React to them in their correct order and it will broaden your perceptual horizons about the Maids. and all us Maidiacs will love you for it. As will all the newcomers to the world of the Maids on your channel. The best Rockumentary series ever.
Also, please react to the live 2 for 1 offering of 'Manners & Black Hole'. Still my favorite video of them out there.

Band Maid was billed to perform around 1:45p on Friday (Day 2 of 5), and after performing 15 hours earlier at the Lolla "Aftershow." So, people were still entering the venue resulting in a small crowd when the show began. By the end of the 1 hour set, there were a few more folks stopping by, unknowingly realizing that they were seeing a historic event, of Band Maid conquering the World, Po! Great reaction, Sir! 🦍🍌

"This is going to be every video... why is it so good"
You're not wrong. I've never really loved a band with a hit rate like this. There are bands with songs I love, but I swear every time I re-listen to a band maid album I haven't listened to in a while I always hit tracks where I was like "Why don't I listen to this more?!"
    Every. time.

As far as getting to learn the band... There are multipart documentaries out there, but My **favorite** introduction to the band is still a Japanese music interview show they did a few years into their careers called Music Goldrush.
      Part 1: czcams.com/video/R4PofsQYwn4/video.html
      Part 2: czcams.com/video/YzWETTu-4iE/video.html
The host is very entertaining and you get a pretty decent insight into the girls personalities as they describe themselves and the band's creation. There are some very japanese tropes in their like their "charm point" which is like a fun fact about yourself you would put in a dating profile. I'm shocked they didn't tell us their blood type (which is kind of like your astrological sign in Japan).

They toured the US 3 times since the summer of 2022 so who knows if they will return in 2024. However in the coming Spring they will be releasing on video their final 10th Anniversary concert. It's still on streaming for a couple more days. It is a 33 song, 3 1/2 hour, masterpiece at Yokohama Arena in front of 11,000 fans and many more, like myself, watched on streaming. When it comes out get it. You will not be disappointed. The Dice/Hate? duo is done and filmed to perfection as is all of the concert. Best show I've ever seen and I ain't young.

Great reaction Penguin and I can tell you from seeing them twice live so far, Dallas and Atlanta, that they are every bit as phenomenal in person. The first video I saw was "Thrill" and it got my attention and second was "Dice" and the first fifteen seconds made me a Maidiac for life. You're close on the message of "Dice", it's about trying new things and not letting life pass you by and yes, you're going to have some bad experiences but the good should outweigh the bad. The "Candy or the whip" line actually refers to coffee, as in sugar or cream. Everyone has their preference but it's how you like it that matters.

There are certain songs where the OMV is the superior one. 'Blooming', 'Rinne' and 'Shambles' come to mind. "My I take your order?" is just something they would say in a Maid Cafe'. Yeah, the sound and camera work for Lollapalooza aren't even up to BAND-MAID's minimum standards, but 'Hate' is worth it. Even if you don't do a reaction to them, check out Orenji's BAND-MAID Bio Docos. They will give you all their back stories.

BAND-MAID were the first band at the Coinbase stage that Friday.
The director and camera crew obviously knew nothing about BAND-MAID (or even Hard Rock, I suspect). This is from the past the midpoint of their set. For all the earlier songs, MISA didn’t appear at all. It was as if the operator’s didn’t even know which MAID was producing the bass sounds that dominate every number. (The opening act was a DJ.)

About the MV for Dice, I have this small file.
The song's basically about taking risks, seizing opportunities, putting in the work to get the rewards. Roll the dice. Take your shot.
The doll is just a doll. It's harmless - in fact, that's kind of the point. The doll is a simulated person, it's safe. The girl is blindfolded, in the dark, holding the doll for comfort. She's sheltered. At the end of the video the girl abandons the doll, lifts up the blindfold, steps into a blinding light that represents the uncertainty and opportunity that she's been hiding from.
This song is a call to arms. In Japan they have a sub-culture of shut-ins, people who are either unemployed or under employed who basically won't move out on their own. They stay in their parent/grandparent's home basically playing with dolls or video games, instead of getting out and living life and trying to better themselves. This song is calling them out. Challenging them, "Are you gonna stay in there playing with DOLLLLLLLLLS like a little kid? Or are you going to stand up take off the blindfold, leave the dolls and games behind and step out into the real world?" At the end of the video, the girl puts down the doll, takes off the blindfold and steps into the light.
It's called Hikikomori in Japan and is defined as: "pulling inward, being confined", also known as severe social withdrawal, is total withdrawal from society and seeking extreme degrees of social isolation and confinement. Hikikomori refers to both the phenomenon in general and the recluses themselves. The concept is primarily recognized only in Japan, although similar concepts exist in other languages and cultures. Hikikomori have been described as loners or "modern-day hermits". Estimates suggest that half a million Japanese youths have become social recluses, as well as more than half a million middle-aged individuals. - Definition from Wikipedia
About Hate?, Saiki wrote the lyrics for it after her friends partner/husband cheated on her during the lockdowns. This live version from Lollapalooza was the introduction of the special extended bridge/dueling solos between the Lead and Bass guitars.
And live these Ladies sound almost like you are listening to the studio version, they are that tight. It was the best 2.5 hours I spent in a LONG time. Only topped by the almost 4 hours of their Tour Closer at Yokohama, when I watched the stream live.
And Band-Maid was the first Japanese band/group in 13 years since "X-Japan" last performed at Lollapalooza. As for the camera work, I blame the director, not the cameramen. The director had to be used to pop and hip hop groups not Rock groups.

Great choice to hit the music video first. The Slopapalooza mix is mediocre; taking you an entire verse to recognize the first song, and the camera work blows. Band Maid is awesome everywhere at all times; however, I don’t understand why people recommend this particular video so often.
I’m looking forward to the live from Yokohama.
“Freedom” is an excellent example of a properly captured live version. You’re in for a treat. So much fun!
Don’t let anything stop you from seeing them live someday. It is so worth it. (I drove an 18 hour round trip to see them)
