In today's video, I want to discuss the best functional stool test that I recommend to my patients every week in the clinic. This test provides valuable insights into digestive health and helps me tailor effective treatment plans. So let's dive in!
Functional stool testing is complex but essential to understanding the basics of digestive dysfunction. Among the various tests available, I have found the Complete Microbiome Mapping to be highly reliable and actionable. This test is accessible in Australia and New Zealand, perfect for my patient population! In addition to the Complete Microbiome Mapping, I also appreciate the GI Effects test from Genova Diagnostics.
Now, why is it important to test rather than just treat? Testing provides us with crucial data that can guide us in developing targeted and beneficial interventions for the patient.
During the video, I highlight some key findings from the Complete Microbiome Mapping test that I find particularly relevant and actionable. These include macroscopic descriptions like stool color and mucus, as well as markers such as fecal occult blood, calprotectin, and pancreatic elastase.
I discuss the significance of these markers and their implications for digestive health. For instance, elevated calprotectin levels indicate inflammation in the digestive tract, while low pancreatic elastase may suggest exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
I also touch upon markers related to gut imbalances, leaky gut, and fat malabsorption. While some markers may require further evaluation or referral, others provide valuable insights into specific conditions and can guide treatment plans effectively.
Throughout the video, I share my personal experiences and observations based on the tests I review regularly in my clinic. I address common questions and concerns, emphasizing the importance of addressing root causes and developing tailored treatment strategies.
I hope you find this video informative and helpful in understanding the benefits of functional stool testing. Remember, knowledge is power when it comes to improving your digestive health. THANK YOU! I’m doing the DIY approach at the moment with a self-diagnosed case of methane SIBO using the Foodmarble Aire2. Tracking BMs, symptoms, and breath tests. Noticed big improvements with Dr William Davis’ Sibo Yogurt, so I’m no longer backed up thankfully, but your videos have helped a TON🙏🏻
Had Sibo in 2018 so this is a relapse.
I’ve done Viome’s test here in the US, and Ombré a while back. But I’ve been overwhelmed with the testing options, and IF I should invest the money in one of these tests. I can get a DNA based gut test for $90-150 with the companies mentioned, but something like this just seems REALLY actionable. Guessing I’d have to opt for the Genova one here.
Your videos are incredibly valuable, especially for those of us who haven’t been able to find a good practitioner who understands all the intricacies. And if nothing else it just helps to know we’re not alone in this!

Love the feedback! The chemistry pieces on the stool test are invaluable in my practice.

Thank you for the video! Your channel has become my ongoing education resource. I have done a sibo breath test (seems more hydrogen type sibo, I expected methane), used turkey rhubarb. I really like this test as it seems to cover a lot. Obviously not everything, but a lot. My ge completely dismissed the mucous as something normal, not an indicator. But I am glad she had me do the helycobacter breath test. I will try to get this kind of test done.
Anyways, thanks for your content, I am looking forward to more.

OMG Dr Bryon this video comes at just the right time! I just received the result of my pancreatic elastase exams and it showed a value of 56 :(, I'm scared, I already know that I have a deficiency of pancreatic enzymes but I don't know what amounts to adjust.
Dr Bryon from your experience you think it could be the cause of my hydrogen SIBO?
I will also do the genetic mapping test of the intestine but they don't have it here in Portugal, I will have to send it out in Europe.
Thank you so much for this wonderful content!

Have you seen benefits in taking biofilm busters before a CST or OAT to increase the sensitivity of potential bad guys especially candida?

hmm good question. That hasn't been my approach but there could be something there for sure!

Hey Todd! Thank you so much for this. I just had a GI Map Test come back and there was absolutely no Faecalibacterium prausnitzii detected. Is it possible to raise the levels of this bacteria even if it's not at all detected/is it possible to introduce it?

    • @ByronHerbalist
      @ByronHerbalist  Před rokem

That’s a tough one. I’m a glass half full practitioner so I would bring out all the stops to feed it up. Compared to 16s rRNA or meta genomics testing the GI MAP might have underreported here.

Thanks so much Todd - I also have SIBO so will look to find a probiotic that just feeds butyrate producing bacteria

Its a great test for chemistry but fails with pathogens as you noted. I wish there was beter one.

"Redline" is not a scientific term. It's a value judgement statement

lol great feedback! I don't see the need to speak in 'scientific' terms. I'm not a scientist, I'm a herbalist
