I bought the same unit for my parents 10 years ago as a gift. I recently borrowed it to clean a friend's new rent house the other day and it was doing a good job at removing the stains. I noticed the brushes weren't spinning as fast as I remembered but I hadn't used it in a few years so I didn't really think about it. About halfway through the very large living room, I heard a loud crack. Moments later, the brushes quit spinning. I finished the rest of the living room and then a bedroom without the brushes working. The bedroom wasn't as bad as the living room and the water/detergent alone got the one stain out of that room. I took it home, disassembled it, and discovered that the brushes are air powered, not electric. I took the thing that spins the brushes apart and discovered that the air turbine cracked in half and then seized inside the housing. The only way to fix it was to get a new part. The part that broke is called the "turbine and gear assembly" and the part number is H-91001097. It was $50 on Amazon. I'm still waiting on the part but I'm 100% sure it'll fix the problem. The item description said it was a common problem and the company used the same s**ty part for over 20 years. I just wanted to share this in case you have the same problem with yours.

you have to go much slower and more deliberate passes. also try putting the soap and water on and then moving over the to the next section without sucking up that water you just laid down. Then let it soak in for a few moments and go back and suck it up. the cleaning effect comes from the water extraction so you can change the dial so the brush has stopped rolling and all of the power of the vacuum will be used for suction to get the remaining water out of the carpet

And the Hoover or Bissell carpet solution doesn't clean your carpet any better what it does is it changes the color of your carpet soda stains are technically lightened by peroxide. That's why the instructions say to test out a very small inconspicuous portion of your carpet before using. You can test this by just spraying the Hoover Solution on top of the stain and waiting 5 minutes without touching it at all and the stain will be gone. Not really gone, but it will appear to be gone

Pretty sure by "go slow" he meant run the machine over the stain slowly for best results. Overreact much?
