    Found this exact machine in the garbage 8 years ago. The spinning brushes had seized up. Took that monstrosity apart and cleaned greased/oiled the bearings and, after that, this machine has been an absolute workhorse. Those brushes do NOT mess around. Lots of power there. For 8 years, it has never disappointed.

    Use some (like 1 tbsp) borax dissolved in blue Dawn like 10 drops with some very warm water and you will have very clean carpets, plus the borax makes it odorless, fire resistant and repels bugs and other pests. Harmless to pets.

This one was around 1/2 the price and does an amazing job. Hadn't thought of your method of leaving the chems on and then going back. Great idea.

    Great review Dan. You are absolutely right about the cleaning solution having to sit on the carpet for a while. I use much the same method you use except that instead of using the machine to put down the solution I mix the water and cleaner in a 1 Gal garden sprayer and spray it on. it's much faster and easier. I also double rinse with a little fabric softener in the clean water because it helps to eliminate sudsing of the soap. It smells good too. The clean rinse is very important because the cleaning solution will just attract more dirt. Lastly, I have found that using Scotch Guard rug and carpet protector on it after it's clean lets me go much longer between cleanings.

    Dan; my Hoover dual V extract came to life when I was working at local Hoover store in 2002. There were several new units that customer destroyed so Hoover money back, I was able to salvage one for myself (FREE).
    We have been using this unit for the last 15 years. Church borrowed it and left detergent in the tank and destroyed the valve. I bought a replacement tank and all is well again.

      Ok, on shampoo and pretreat. I had a 24 oz spray pretreat and about 1/4 of a 64oz shampoo. Cleaning some dirty areas from last Thanks giving. The spilled coffee and drips was pretreated then we used the shampooer. We rinsed twice so it dried with perfection over night.
      Replacement Hoover brand from ecommerce site; 64 oz cost $17.95 and 2X 24oz pretreat for $19 free shipped to the house. 32 oz shampoo from local safeway was $16 +tax.

    Thanks for this! I have been searching for a good carpet cleaner and came across your video; my carpet is the same color as yours (what I jokingly call "rental house/apartment beige"...it was in the house when we bought it) and liked how this machine worked. I also appreciate your 'unorthodox' cleaning method. I never thought to leave the soap to sit on the carpet--this cuts down on the necessity to go over the carpet more than once with the soap. One question--how wet does this machine leave the carpet once you're done? I don't have the ability to *not* use my living room while waiting for days for the carpet to dry...

    This was an awesome top notch review & Demonstration! I've watched so many "How to" video's in the last few days on many different topics and this was by far the best! I do have a question for you or anyone who owns this particular cleaner.. With the word "Extract" in the model name it makes me think it's what I need. However I have OLD set in stains and I do mean OLD (I've lived here 10 years, I scrub the carpets 2-4 times a year, the stains are roughly 5 years old. Some are from when my dog was a pup, others are just from normal wear and tear (shoes, kids, ashtrays being dumped over etc) even though I've cleaned all spills/pet messes with a hand held "rug Scrubber" after blotting up the liquid (never scrubbing or rubbing it down into the carpet) The mess became a stain :/ , now it's down into the padding, and every time I scrub carpets while it's damp, it's spotless, but as soon as it starts drying they come right back and it looks like the carpets haven't been cleaned in 30 years and it's driving me freaking nuts! I've tried many many different cleaners, even ones with enzymes in it as per all the How To's say when it's dog/cat messes. But nothing is working this carpet is older than 10 years old, Landlord refuses to replace it even though they are supposed to replace it like every 7 years
    Will this machine get down far enough down under the carpet backing into the padding and pull up the stains and get rid of them once and for all???

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  Před 6 lety

      I have the same issues and the answer is no. I even had a pro carpet cleaner hit the area hard with steam and their super powerful sucker and still the big dark stains return. It’s almost like the stain is the true color and I washed away the die that lightened the carpet’s color.

    Can you discuss what happens when the trigger is not engaged? Does it then work just like a regular vacuum? Do the scrubbers still rotate when the trigger is not engaged?

    • @ryanhawkins1235
      @ryanhawkins1235 Před 2 lety

      I have not personally used this machine but Bissells. Unless you have one of the Smart Wash systems the machine only puts down solution or water, depending on settings, when the trigger is squeezed. When not squeezed it is sucking up or vacuuming up water. You could say it is working like a regular vacuum but you can't use these to just vacuum as they don't have the filtration to trap the dirt and the suction pathways are smaller and can get clogged. From my understanding of the mechanics of these machines the brushes always run.

    Hello. I just got this cleaner and did a small room and am very happy so far. I did your method versus what I would normally do and like it but I just want to make sure I'm using the modes correctly. Set it to "wash", depress trigger, move forward, move over and go backward and repeat. Do you let the solution sit and work for a set amount of time then go back over everything without depressing the trigger? Is rinse only different from wash because it is just pure water?

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes let it dwell as you move across the room and then suck it up sparingly using rinse water as needed. The important part is dwell time and good suck-removal of the solution and dirt

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes. It will suck all of the water out of the carpet without squeezing the trigger. If you squeeze the trigger you are spraying water or if you have it on the wash selection then it is spraying water and soap. As long as the machine is plugged in and turned on it is sucking water

    Please do a video on how to remove parts and clean them. I find that it's very hard to remove hair from the nozzle (the thin, clear plastic "face"). Hair gets stuck at the bottom where the long slit is. There's no way to separate the top and bottom. Sure, running water through the hose hole helps. But A LOT of hair still gets stuck in the corners and in the plastic tabs along the front of the slit opening. Have to get in there with tweezers and it's a pain.
    Also, the top tank doesn't always "let you know" when it's secure. So it will pop out and smash on the floor. The tanks handle broke when this happened to me (and others on Amazon), and Hoover can't replace the part. Duck tape can help. Anyway, one must remember to snap the handle up into the lock position VERY WELL. If it's just kinda locked in, it will pop out and crash onto the floor.
    Anyway, again. It would be good if you could do a video of how to remove parts for cleaning. I did not find it intuitive. Seems to be a lot of yanking on parts till they pop off.
    (Mine also leaks). If you can recommend a better carpet cleaner please do.

I find it impossible to load the water/shampoo container on the machine without ending up with a puddle of water and shampoo on the floor. So common that I load the machine in the kitchen that has a vinyl floor, so the puddle is easier to clean up. Putting the reservoir on the machine isn't rocket science but it happens every time. Very frustrating. Enough so I'm considering tossing the machine and getting something from another manufacturer. Never have I loaded it and not having to clean up a good size puddle of both detergent and water. Oh, and the detergent is extra fun because it makes a very sticky mess.
