What I like about this guy, quite apart from the fact that he is so informative, is the unashamed and completely natural joy he shows for all the music he features. A joy to watch and listen to.
It's been almost 6 months since John Prine passed away, and I still tear up every time I hear someone talk about him. don't know if I'm ever going to fully heal that wound
As a country music singer Kacey has got so much respect from me...she is absolutely a class act from her clear pitch perfect voice to her guitar playing to her outfits...and most of all her attitude. love her. would love to play with her some day!
I am right there with ya on KM. I only knew her music in passing. Was watching the live stream of Coachella 2019 when her set began. Out comes this pretty girl with a sparkly dress who immediately demands the crowds' attention with a killer rendition of "Slow Burn". I guarantee alot of that crowd didn't know her music and had never seen her live but she had them eating out of her hand the whole show. She is the real deal and i have been down a KM rabbit hole ever since. Love her rebellious lyrics and don't give AF what you think ab me attitude!
A couple months ago I listened to this song on repeat probably 100 times. Her vocal talent is off the charts. I loved her track on the Frozen II soundtrack as well. Nice to see you’re a fan as well, I thought I was growing soft.
I'm still not over losing prine. I grew up listening to so much of him with my father and knowing he will be gone too someday just makes me cry wherever I am. Hope he's got the vodka and ginger ale up in heaven.
You helped me understand why I love her voice SO much. I always say "her voice, it's just so clear", not really being able to describe it in any other way. Thanks, AGAIN.
As a singer, Kasey is a complex songwriter and a beautiful vocalist! I grew up in Kentucky with John Prine playing my home since I could remember. This song hits me in the feels!!
I live in the town next to where she grew up. Our town has Miranda Lambert... 15 miles away was Kacey Musgraves. It's really nice seeing someone's career build and build like theirs. Lots of hard work and well deserved. Also, there's the whole group of local female artists that they have inspired.
I first saw her play this song a couple years ago on one of those CZcams rabbit holes. There's s video on there of her and John Prine on a stage together and she sings this song to him. It's badass.
I agree. I discovered Kacey through my dance teacher playing Slow Burn. Then when I was searching for her on CZcams, found her singing with John Prine. John Prine is and has always been one of my all time -- and the world's - favorite storytelling artists - favorites. I don't think that Kacey just wanted to smoke a joint with John. But I'll leave that there. Love your playing of her song. Wonderful.
I don't even play guitar but subscribed just because your videos are so well made and you're so masterful at what you do. Love watching any artist at the top of their craft. Bravo.
I absolutely love this song and the way she presents it. If you haven't seen the live version she does on stage, you definitely need to. I completely enjoy your videos. The first I saw was "Nose on the Grindstone" and your emotional reaction to such a raw song had tears in my eyes. I've been following Tyler's career well before the "Our Vinyl" sessions and to see an instant fan with that kind of appreciation of his music was amazing. I know how you enjoy story telling and the details they can put into music. You should check out "Using Again" - Benjamin Tod. Such a real, raw amazing song. Paid with soft basic chords and finger picking.
She's one of my favorites. I really enjoy her husband Ruston Kelly's songwriting too. They did a nice rendition of a Johnny Cash poem and filmed it called "To June this morning" if you haven't heard it already.
Awesome brother, i, like you, am a guitarist, and a massive Tool fan etc... But I am equally a Kacey Musgraves fan, and agree with everything you say. If I could I would do exactly the same, support a top quality female vocalist like Kacey. Absolutely love your videos all the way from northern Australia 🇦🇺 👍
Yes! Love her sound! Thanks so much for doing this. Check out the video of her and Willie doing Rainbow Connection at the CMA awards. That video is pure.
Thanks for extending the range of the guitar music on your channel. Its great seeing good guitar styles and technique from all genres of Music. As you say not all good songs need to be chock full of solos and runs, sometimes the hardest part is making the absolute basics sound like a million dollars. Kacey does this with ease
Hey man, thanks for posting this. I'm a massive Kacey Musgraves fan, because she is, as you say, the real fucking deal!!! I found and subscribed to this channel because of Tool, yep, but I fucken love Spacey Kacey, all the way from Australia!!! Love you too bro 👍🇦🇺
I am really surprised I haven't seen you react to Jason Isbell. Not only is he a generational song writer, he is an Ax Master. Seriously he shreds when he wants too. Some of his songwriting masterpieces for good reactions would be Elephant, Cover Me Up, If We were Vampires. I prefer his lesser know songs but those are his most popular. As far as guitar shredders, there is a live cover of whipping post that is badass or the live version of Never Gonna Change with the 400 Unit his backing band
Thanks for the great analysis and theory breakdown of this song. One can learn a lot from watching her technique. For example, the way she mutes the low D string with her thumb when playing the open A chord, but lets the low D ring out when playing the D chord (6:09). She does the same thing when playing the open C chord at 11:20, because otherwise it would be easy to inadvertently hit the low D string with the picking pattern she is using. The pattern sounds simple, but it is not easy to play accurately, a testament to her guitar mastery. This song could have been written by John Prine himself, it is so close to the spirit of his songs.
My favorite female artist without a doubt, beautiful and beyond talented! Not many artists can pull off Johnny Cash's cover of "I've been everywhere" like she did.
Wow, you sound great on that acoustic! Can you react to this? Joey Landreth - Lovin' You (Johnny "Guitar" Watson). Thanks so much for your videos. They're like a music appreciation course as well as a theory lesson.
Very cool. Awesome video sir, nice to see your talented way of showing an appreciation that I also share for both of these artists - once in a while I still seek out the John Prine tributes and this one made me smile 👏🏼 thank you for that
Every time I hear you break something down it makes me realise that just because I can play 2000 songs and memorize 200 chords I am clueless to the instrument I am playing
My wife drug me to a Kacey Musgraves Christmas show. I knew nothing about her and I'm not really a Christmas guy. The show was excellent. Her band was great, the piano player especially so. But the best moments were the quiet moments where she would just stand in front of the mic with a guitar and play. Her voice was phenomenal. She was playing in the same theater I had recently heard Gillian Welch play and I suspect the theater must be magic because there's no way human voices can be that good.
What I like about this guy, quite apart from the fact that he is so informative, is the unashamed and completely natural joy he shows for all the music he features. A joy to watch and listen to.
Can't listen to this without crying
Iv'e had John Prine in my back pocket for 40 years, I'm 54 now. He's like my best friend I never met.
I feel that way about Elvos Costello
What a vioce she has.
I saw Kacey and Prine together in Atlanta a few years ago. Very grateful I got to do so. It's one of my favorite posters in my collection.
It's been almost 6 months since John Prine passed away, and I still tear up every time I hear someone talk about him. don't know if I'm ever going to fully heal that wound
If I didn't know it was Kacey's song I'd have guessed it was Prines. Amazing.
This song, along with most Prine songs, reduces me to tears every time. God I love John Prine. My favorite artist until I die.
Dude GETS IT. The video of her singing this with Prine is THE BEST.
Bro, you’re so into what you do. I appreciate your love for music.
Thank you sir!
Everytime I hear Kacey, I always hear so much Dolly in her voice
As a country music singer Kacey has got so much respect from me...she is absolutely a class act from her clear pitch perfect voice to her guitar playing to her outfits...and most of all her attitude. love her. would love to play with her some day!
Caseys's performance of Coalminers daughter at the tribute to Loretta Lynn is a thing of beauty.
That nod at the very beginning... love a chord when it rings out true
Mm hmmm
Kacey is one of my very favorite singer/songwriters!
John Moreland: Tulsa County Stars amazing player and incredible voice give him a listen!
Please do John Mooreland!!!!!
I'm amazed he's done everything but John Moreland
Great song!
Love that song! He’s gotta do it
Do Sallisaw Blue!
Why am I hearing "Friend of The Devil" in the melody. I can't stop hearing it.
thought the same thing i was trying to figure what song it was
Yes!
Same!
That was the most soulful intro I’ve heard you play. Thanks for that.
I am madly in love with the acoustic guitar. The transparency and the dynamics are genuine, and hit me in the feels everytime.
The contrast of her exceptional, pitch-perfect voice and the constant tremolo of the acoustic guitar makes for a remarkable sound.
Criminally underrated artist! Love KaseyMusgraves. Great channel!
Kacey is incredible. Her songwriting is second to none in current country music
Amen
Ummm, have you not heard of Taylor Swift??
I am right there with ya on KM. I only knew her music in passing. Was watching the live stream of Coachella 2019 when her set began. Goosebumps
Yup
Her voice is like a warm hug
Wish there was a tab for those licks you're playing at the beginning my man, beautiful.
A couple months ago I listened to this song on repeat probably 100 times. Her vocal talent is off the charts. I loved her track on the Frozen II soundtrack as well. Nice to see you’re a fan as well, I thought I was growing soft.
The little song he plays at the beginning was honestly amazing
um...it's called "Burn One with John Prine" by Kacey Musgraves
;)
On the theme of John Prine, acoustic and incredible songwriting: 'If We Were Vampires ' by Jason Isbell
A 1000 times yeah. Ol isbell is a somg writer that happens to be good on guitar
Yes ^^^^^
@@rettmcguire9966 He might tell you it's the other way around.
Love Jason Isbell, my cousin has the pleasure of playing with him a couple years ago
Jason, Amanda and John were good friends.
Love Kacey for all the reasons you state here. I'm very inspired by her writing and music.
I'm still not over losing prine. I grew up listening to so much of him with my father and knowing he will be gone too someday just makes me cry wherever I am. Hope he's got the vodka and ginger ale up in heaven.
Serious chills up in here. Had to catch my breath for a minute.
You helped me understand why I love her voice SO much. I always say "her voice, it's just so clear", not really being able to describe it in any other way. Thanks, AGAIN.
Beautiful playing Michael! Who wouldn't have liked to burn one with John Print?!
She played this for John Prine on stage with him and he even told a story about her trying to get high with him. It's a good watch.
YES
It was the first video I watched after he died. It made me cry hard.
As a singer, Kasey is a complex songwriter and a beautiful vocalist! I grew up in Kentucky with John Prine playing my home since I could remember. This song hits me in the feels!!

Ugh, I miss John Prine terribly, he was so great. Kacey is amazing, awesome person and so damn good!
I first saw her play this song a couple years ago on one of those CZcams rabbit holes. There's s video on there of her and John Prine on a stage together and she sings this song to him. It's badass.
I love these videos Michael, your passion is motivating
She is a total badass! I'm so glad someone else feels about Kacey as I do. I own all her albums and listen to them all the time.
I agree. I discovered Kacey through my dance teacher playing Slow Burn. Then when I was searching for her on CZcams, found her singing with John Prine. Absolutely brilliant! Love the intro...
She does have an absolute beautiful voice.
The colder weather diddy at the beginning is killer
Awesome !!!
Waiting for the next 😉
That intro at the beginning was so good
I don't even play guitar but subscribed just because your videos are so well made and you're so masterful at what you do. Love watching any artist at the top of their craft. Bravo.
That opening lick is great, I love churchy shit.
Love Kacey!
Check Sturgill's tribute to John Prine it's incredible.

Her live acoustic shows are something else
That guitar sounds amazing
Me an my six year old love her Xmas album
Love Kacey
She's one of my favorites. I really enjoy her husband Ruston Kelly's songwriting too. They did a nice rendition of a Johnny Cash poem and filmed it called "To June this morning" if you haven't heard it already.
So good.

She sang John this song a couple years ago. He loved it
I hear you brother, it's all about a great vocalist with something say!
It was good to see that she did get to play it to him a few years ago.
Check out Whiskey Myers "Ballad of a Southern Man" - it's great !
Broken Window Serenade
And you're right, Whiskey Myers needs to be addressed
Michael.....That's the quietest I have you seen when she was playing😀 I could see the ❤ in you eye. Cant blame you Brother!
You videos are awesome and I love em , glad I found this channel
Wow! She's amazing. How have I not hear of her?
Kasey Musgraves is amazing. I can listen to her stuff all day.
You should react to "Molly Tuttle - White Freightliner Blues"
Another vote for Molly Tuttle.
The Townes van zandt original is where it's really at, cheers to Molly though, she's a talent!
She’s a beast!
Yes! Love her sound! Thanks so much for doing this. Check out the video of her and Willie doing Rainbow Connection at the CMA awards. That video is pure.

Awesome way to break this song down. I never listened to her before, but have listened to this song 1000 times since she recorded it 👌
Yes
Thank you :)
Michael, please please please react to “Lady May” by Tyler Childers! Such a beautifully written song all around!
My heart broke when John died. I'm glad you're in on his legacy
Oh man i absolutely love that acoustic guitar you have there.
Love love love Kacey! So cool that she wrote this song. Dig her connection with John Prine.
I love this tune
Totally
@@Guitargate she performed it with John Prine before he passed away

Thank you so much for mentioning your tribute video to John! Idk how, but I missed that one. Thank you man. You're a real one

I saw her do this when John passed and I am tearing at her first words in your video, Michael.
Thanks for playing it through! I'd like to take credit for suggesting that. LOL Love your videos.
Great video, always great to hear others appreciate the true quality and excellence of Kacey.

Same for me, except I know 20 chords and only pieces of 50 songs...work in progress!
THAT , my friend is the most musically inspirational video I've seen. I agree with you 100 percent.
Great clip out there of her playing that song on stage with John Prine followed up with Illegal Smile. Absolutely the best.
React to Jason Isbell chaos and clothes from his tiny desk concert
Love your smile so real everything about u is real love you
You should look up Ashley Mcbryde Stone, Jason Isbell Cover Me Up, and any Cody Jinx song!
“If I’m Unworthy” - Blake Mills. The version he did for Fender will blow your mind.
Yeah, Blake is great. Check this out with Bill Frisell supporting. Very tasty.

teddy G that’s one of my favs!
Here's a great take on the Bob Dylan classic by Blake. God I love the sound out of that Fender.

Great song :) Great tribute :) Great reaction :)
