  • Talking about trading my Vulcan S in on my new Harley Street Bob. The Vulcan was a great bike! But when the time comes to move on to other things, we do what we will. In this video I tell you the things I didn’t like about the Vulcan S. However, I still think it’s a great bike.

    I had my first 2015 Vulcan S for about two and a half years then traded it for an Indian Scout which I kept for again about two and a half years. 2 weeks ago I traded the Scout in for a 2020 Vulcan S :D

      Matt W how do it compare to the Scout? I'm thinking about a Scout 60 but would like the bigger engined version if I could find a good used one that I could afford. But I don't know anaything about them except they're nice to sit on. Lol

      @@kencohagen4967 It's like GWG said in the video, the Vulcan S is essentially a sports bike in cruiser clothing so it depends if you want a cruiser that is a traditional V twin that enjoys chugging about at low speed then V twin is the one. Personally I missed the little hooligan personality of the Vulcan S hence why I went back to one. Don't get me wrong, the Scout can also move like shit off a shovel but the Vulcan S is a bit more nimble in my opinion. Both fantastic bikes once they have a decent aftermarket set of pipes on them.

      I own a 2016 Vulcan S and I think I would be tempted to trade it in if they ever make a Honda Rebel 1000 (off of the CBR 1000 engine) or a Vulcan S 1000 (off of the Ninja 1000 engine).

    I have a 2016 Vulcan S and it's my first bike. I love it and don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon, but I do understand why you would get a different bike and don't resent you for it. As for aftermarket stuff, if you dig a little you can find a decent amount of things to put on it. For example I didn't like the stock exhaust so I looked for a replacement. After a few videos and forums I got a Delkevic DL-10 full exhaust system for around $400 if my memory proves correct. I like the sound and crackle it makes. The R&G tail tidy looks amazing as well. I also added LED Headlights to the front (including the little bulb above the main headlight). All in all, if you dig hard enough you can find thing to make the Vulcan S your own. Just my 2 cents. I'll keep watching your videos no matter what you ride.

I started watching you because of the Vulcan, so sad to see it go, but glad you are happy with the Harley. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Edited to add: One of the biggest failings of the Vulcan is the (relative) lack of aftermarket support, especially when compared to the Harley--nothing beats them for aftermarket support.

      I started on an HD, but I don’t recommend any of them as a starter bike. The Vulcan S is a solid bike for anyone, hardly anyone into bikes will ever stay with one brand. Why would you!? There are so many great bikes to buy, sell, customize, swap! The secret to riding is to ride. The rest, details.

  • @richardnewton2008
    @richardnewton2008 Před 4 lety +10

    R&G makes a lot of customization parts for the Vulcan S that are very inexpensive versus what it will cost you for a Harley. Delkavic exhaust, Puig cafe screen, R&G Tiny Tail, R&G radiator cover all in for around $800. You kept your Grom yet traded your Vulcan S, sad.

    Don't necessarily agree with your comment about resale value... the KVS bike new is only 7.5k. Your harley is double that and sounds like you want to customize for another 2 to 3k. If you're going to resell that HD later, you're going to take a huge hit on a saturated HD resale market

    I discovered this channel looking for Vulcan reviews after I fell in love with a new one at a local dealer. But I'm not mad or gonna hold it against you that you traded it. I understand in life we want new things or new experiences and if something comes along that catches our attention and we want to pursue it, you've got to do what you need to do to adjust your life. Plus I'm sure if you had the same two or three bikes on a motovlog channel, that would probably get stale for you.

The grin I can’t wipe off my face when I’m riding. I know there’s other bikes that are faster, better handling, blah, blah, blah. My bike has great torque and power. Like a freight train. Enjoy your bike and ride safe

    I have a Vulcan Vaquero 1700. There were a few aftermarket options and I added slip on, mini apes, grips but not to much. Had to have the ECM reflashed to make it run decent. It runs good, feels a bit plasticky but the price was right. The resale value seems to hold alright but not like a Harley. I plan to put all my bucket list rides on this bike then maybe pulling the trigger on the twice as expensive comparable Harley which would be a Road Glide. Anyhow congrats on your Bobber.

  • @rubberlover666
    @rubberlover666 Před 4 lety +3

    Agree. I love metrics but they simply do not appreciate in value the way Harleys do. Like you said, you could dump another thousand into the Vulcan to get it set up nice but you'd still only be able to sell it for probably less than what you originally paid for it. This is why I highly recommend buying a used metric that someone has ALREADY done the modifications that you would want to do.

Silky smooth, Rocketship power, Sport Bike handling, load it up and Cross a Country...spend time in a Parking lot and practice low speed maneuvers and 650 pounds melts away. I bought a leftover Star 1300 in 2014. Paid half price for the bike, put Star bags, windshield and crash bars on it. Rode it one season and loved everything but the exhaust and the seat. Found that it wasn’t cost affective to change the seat and exhaust so I bought an aftermarket gel seat cover. I really liked the bike, had enough power, good brakes handled ok for a cruiser, but then I found a great deal on a Road King, it’s the best HARLEY-DAVIDSON I have ever ridden. Got very little for the V Star but I love the RK.

      I started out on a Honda Rebel 500 it's a really good bike. Maintenance is easy, It's lite and nimble and you have that Honda reliability. It does have it's shortcomings though. Because it's so lite the wind is gonna push you around, and there's a slowly growing aftermarket for it. Not that many options, essentially my Rebel ended up looking like every other Rebel on the road or internet. So I ended up trading it in for a Harley Davidson Sportster.

    Fascinating: it's like a love affair. One day you wake up and something has flipped. You see that person in a whole different light. The rose colored spectacles come off. Whatever that magic chemistry, that obsession that first fuels the attraction. It disappears. To my eye the Vulcan S looks amazing. I don't get that same sense from the HD. I've been riding 6 years. I'm on my 4th bike which happens to be a Vulcan s 650. I get the drive behind wanting something different all the time. I started with a boulevard m50, then a Honda fury, then a Vulcan 800 bobber. The Vulcan s has been the best bike of the bunch....but as always, I'm always looking for the next ride. It'll most likely be a vrod muscle.
    As far as personalizing the Vulcan....if you have some skill you can do anything you the bike. Mine has a chopped rear fender, custom tail light, turn signals, side mount plate, light bar and soon to be a headlight upgrade. So there are things you can do....just not exactly plug and play.

    What I find humorous is that your reasoning for trading would be my reasons for getting one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, though I hope you don’t feel like you have to justify your decisions. So…after the fact, what do you think now? Anything you would do differently? All the best.

    Sold my Fat Bob 114 and got the Vulcan S. Think it’s the perfect bike if you want a custom bike that rides like a sports bike. Heaps of fun! I felt awesome riding the Fat Bob but not 10k more expensive awesome. But as you say we never truly settle for one bike but I wish I could someday. Moro Guzzis seem to be one of those brands 😀

    “Sports bike with ergonomics of a cruiser.” And, you’re spot on. It’s not a bad thing. But it’s not the same thing. Concur. I came to your channel because of your Vulcan. I’ll stay for other reasons. I’m very curious about your reasons for trading it because I want a bike like the Vulcan s. Do your reasons for trading resonate with me? Actually, no. I like it stock. I like the performance aspect. So, I’m loving what you’re saying. So thanks. And I’ll tune in even though HD isn’t on my radar. Ride safe.

    I have been a motorcycle guy since 1969, never owned a Harley Davidson. It will be my next bike. My last ride was a Triumph Thunderbird, a 1700cc cruiser. It was a nice ride. However, almost zero aftermarket. The dealer could not get me luggage rack. Got rid of the Triumph. Have my eye on the HD softail standard.

    Had a Rebel 300 for commuting, bought 2018 Street Bob for weekend rides
    sold it in Oct 2019, gave Rebel to my dad, got a new CB650R since Christmas 2019
    Softail is just too big and heavy for me. And Sportsters aren’t as good as M8, so back to naked bike for now
    Maybe will consider Bronx 975 if no new generation of Sportster come out

      I loved the Street Bob, but living in Bangkok is quite rough having to lane split and parking in tight places all the time.

    You didn't like the headlight either. The other cosmetic thing I don't like is the rear fender looks like it's way to big for the wheel, like it's supposed to have a larger diameter tire on it and somebody swapper it for a smaller wheel and tire for some strange reason, but it just wasn't balanced. Of the two, I like the Yamaha Bolt much much better. The Bolt may not hold much value down the road, but it's cheap to begin with.

  • @dingznthingz

    You traded your Vulcan S for a Street Bob. Once you ride a Harley, it's very difficult to fall back and ride anything else. Unless you are like myself, owning a multitude of motorcycles. I traded a boat I had never used for a 2018 Vulcan S in like new condition. I will add a few upgrades to the Vulcan S and ride it a little while. I am going to use it as a bartering tool, along with a 2011 KLR650 in mint condition and a 2010 street legal customized Yamaha Raptor. I am looking for a Harley Davidson Pan America or a Harley Fat Bob. I already own a 2020 HD Ultra Limited in Scorched Orange and Flux Metal gray paint job. It has every option available along with the Black Out option and Rhinehart mufflers. I've got a few other bikes which I am keeping. The other Harley I may search for is a V-Rod, then I'll keep my KLR650. I really don't need the Vulcan S, and I hardly ever ride the Raptor. Another Harley is what I need.

      I'm not a Harley expert, but I've heard the recent bikes are very dependable. I'm personally on the lookout for an 883 Sporty that I can get cheap, and put on a Hammer Performance 1250 kit. Harleys are that way, you can do a lot of tinkering, which is great fun.
