Potatoes are not nutrient poor and when eaten within the guidelines of the carbohydrate model, are a wonderful addition. Especially if you cook them and store them first and the starch becomes more resistant.

Low carb is right for me! I felt like I was slipping in to some sort of disordered eating when I felt GUILTY about having put too much courgette/tomato in to my food. Obviously it was not courgette or tomatoes that sent my weight up to 11 stone so I did not like that way of thinking personally. I want to still view vegetables as healthy. Just the lens I want to have. I know keto works for a lot of people who possibly need more meat than I do.

My lockdown comfort food weight gain made me realize, that over 30 I can’t follow my old diet and expect to look like I used to look like before, so i had to make the most difficult decision of my adult life:
I have to give up my mainly processed carb based diet. No more junk food, chocolate, ice cream, pasta-pizza, whatever on the go.
I’ve started Keto (well… at least I planned so) but my daily carb intake is still over the very top of the keto daily carb intake (50g). It’s the 85% dark chocolate’s fault. Or the strawberry season. I mean old habits die hard 🤷🏼‍♀️
Now watching this video I am more relaxed knowing it’s ok to start my journey with just lowering my carb intake, once my body got used to it, I can switch to the real keto.
Thank you so much for the explanation and to make me feel a little less anxious in these challenging days :)

My only discernment is the whole potato issue. I've personally never had an issue with them or sweet potatoes. I also love Butternut Squash (I eat sweet potatoes more than white potatoes however and I limit white ones admittedly). I also love oats but then I am a Celt after all. I despise most breads however and I don't get on well with even Brown Basmati Rice. I have started doing a heart rate test with many foods now, and I'm finding that grains and baked beans speed my heart rate up way too much after 15minutes and for up to a good 2 hours at times. I don't know what the recommended heart rate increase should be after consuming foods but those things mentioned speed it up by over 20bpm and that sounds dodgy to me.
Good high protein meals (animal based) only increase my heart rate by up to 8bpm however. Now to me, as someone who suffers from autistic induced anxiety and cortisol sensitivity, the latter food option makes more sense.
Finding something healthy that allows me to maintain all my weight and muscle so that I can go to the gym is proving to be a difficult endeavour. I've been a fairly low carb eater for many years and I put this strategy down to the underlying fact that I've maintained a waist line of 30" into my 40s (I'm nearly 44), however, I noticed a 1/4" 2 months ago and this panicked me into making some changes. Sadly, my bicep circumference has dropped from just over 14" to just over 13.5" which I'm not happy with. I'm happy with a waist line of 29" on the flipside but I want to maintain weight of around 10'6 with health. I'm now 9'12 at just under 5'9 when I first wake up.
Cutting out sugar is harder for addiction reasons but I'm losing the craving as time elapses.
I'm probably suited to a moderately low carb diet with a few intermittent fasting days than a full on keto diet but I believe both are great.
I'm glad to come across people like Sten Ekberg, Eric Berg and now Becky Gillaspy, and this information is far more powerful coming from nutritionist experts. I never had this information when I first started going to the gym. All I was told was to eat 6 meals a day with ridiculously high protein overloads with high carbs thrown in. My body rejects both ideas and goes for a decent protein diet instead with 'low carbs'. I'm from the UK.

Low carb ( under 80 grams a day) worked for me, My blood sugar was actually lower when I included a cup of sweet potato and an orange a day then it was on keto. I was also way more satiated with those in my diet than when I tried higher fat and keto. I reversed my prediabetes eating like this and always taking 10 minute walks after I ate. This is even with me consuming plenty of electrolytes throughout the day. Do you feel that an extended period of low carb eating (I would guess around 50g net carbs per day for a month or so) would allow my body to adapt more easily to full on ketosis?

They are nothing like the dry apples you buy, which are drenched in sugar. They are also very chewy, so you will likely only eat a piece or two. I have also dried cranberry by first cooking them with Monk Sugar. Not a lot. Still tart when dry. But nice.
My husband, who is diabetic loves banana chips, but they raise his blood sugar with just a few. But I have made him some without the added sugar and he does not have the same problem. But again, only eating a few. 5 to 10.
I think it is like a friend who noticed I had Mary's crackers. She was doing weight watchers, and pointed out that something like 15 had so many points.
I said I do not count points, and I maybe have 4 every few weeks with some rich cheese, which works fine for me. Her response was she could eat the entire box in one sitting.
So if you dry your own, and can limit them, they can be a nice treat in a low carb lifestyle. Been low carb 12 years now.

@starvingmyselftolife4423 I believe you have to stick to the daily values since our bodies pretty much rest and "reset" over night.
It's like binge eating 1 day, then clean eat or fast next day and expect to lose weight. All you did was starve or eat healthy 1 day after eating bad, not enough for the body to get used to what to burn and what to store on regular basis.

I only eat steel cut oats for breakfast. The rest of the day = no carbs and no sugar. Asparagus or broccoli for dinner with meat, chicken or fish
I work out 6 days per week
I have toned my body a lot and lost weight

The captioning on here was awful. I tried keto and low carb diets and this did not work out for me. I was hungry all the time. Found The Mayo Clinic Diabetic Diet and I have lost over 30 pounds on this diet. The fruit and nonstarchy vegetables on this diet for snacking help keep me full between meals and I love being able to eat carbs in moderation. Eating the whole grains, beans, and/or legumes in moderation as well as a serving of fruit at each meal helps with satiety.

Let me simplify this debate for everyone. First a keto diet is one particular diet. Low carb can be anyone of a number of low carb diets. That includes a keto diet. All will fit under the heading of an atkins diet. Now for most people low carb begins below 20 carbs per day and may get up to 30 or so. Fifty or above are not really low carb. I've eaten a low carb diet at 12 carbs per day for 30 years now. Next, low carb doesn't automatically make you lose weight. What it does is allow your body to burn fats instead of carbs for energy while at the same time reducing your appetite making it easy for you to reduce your calorie intake, thus losing weight. Although you can make low carb versions of many foods you want to get away from the way you normally eat. Don't make a ton of low carb desserts. Just a simple one from time to time. Think calories. My normal meal range is eggs and pork for breakfast most mornings. Lunch, when I eat it is one or more of the following (tuna, sardines, poultry, pickled vegetables, or simply a small block of cheese). Dinner is a meat or seafood and two half cup servings of low carb vegetables. Also remember that nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants) are all medium carb vegetables along with onions that you can eat low carb but need to restrict the amounts you consume. For nutrition try to eat a variety of types and cuts of meat along with a variety of seafoods. Along with eggs, butter, cheese, nuts and seeds will supply 100% of your necessary nutrients. Eat a few small servings of vegetables mostly for variety and eating pleasure. Do learn to make those foods you can't live without low carb. Last week I made a Sicilian pizza. Egg and cheese pizza crust. I've now got it down pat and it's as good as a flour crust. Top with a small amount of pasta sauce. Add anchovies, sardines, olive oil and a bit of parm cheese. Cook, chill and serve cold. Nice salty fish taste and will supply some of the salt intake that you need to increase on a low carb diet. Live long and stay lean and active.

I find this a little hard to follow because all of my tracking tools work on % of calories that are from carbs, fats, and proteins. So, what percentage of a 2000 calorie per day diet would 200g or 100 grams of carbs be?

    • @alexhamaide6688
      @alexhamaide6688 Před 2 lety

1 gram of carb or protein is equal to 4 calories. 1 gram of fat is equal to 9 calories.
