Frank Blokdijk and the “I live in a Monet world”-damn, man.
One of my friends is blind and we went to Paris to sing in a choir together. Whilst we were staying in a student hotel, I saw a bright orange sunset through the window and when I realised what I’d said, it was too late. My friend asked me what orange was and I froze, when I couldn’t describe it i was heartbroken. When describing things to a non-seer, it’s best to describe it to something they can feel. I described orange as the warm sweet taste of the fruit as well as the hot sensation and smell of scented candles. She said she likes the colour orange.
That’s so beautiful.
Well last year a new student moved into our school . He was blind from birth. One day I foolishly said that he looks dapper in his red shirt . I mentally kicked myself after saying that. He told me that he had chosen the shirt because of the fabric and fit. He asked me to explain red. After thinking for a bit I told him to close his eyes. He did so that then I flashed torchlight on his eyes. Then I told him to imagine the colour he was seeing with 100x brightness. He smiled and said that he understood the colour red now and also that it gave him a burning sensation. I could've cried in joy.

Sometimes I'll take my glasses off to see things blend into each other, and become soft and unfocused.
Trees in the wind, rain on the streets, crowds...I think some of the painters who painted what they saw were only inadvertently painting a genre, in their eyes they were painting true to life and not intentionally stylistically.

I honestly don't know what's more impressive a blind person's ability to accurately describe a visual detail or the sculptors ability to interpret it into something very very close all of those looked very close to the people they were meant to look like

BoomBoomBeepBop Perfect comment.
I knew a girl who was blind one time. WE both took a walk when we were little and saw a lot of shooting stars. I forgot she was blind and told her WoW there are a lot of shooting stars tonight. She told me I wish I could see and I told her that maybe I could describe it to her. After 20 seconds of trying to describe it to her I started crying. I was crying not because I felt pity or because she was blind but because I could not describe it to her. So i told her give me your hand and I took it. I then pinched her hand softy. I told her that was a shooting star is like. You see it then it magically disappears like the pain of the pinch. I then told her to imagine that all over her body that what a shooting star is like. The girl moved never saw it again but every time I see a shooting star I wonder where she is. Sorry for the long story have a good day today!
Ah damn, thats so sweet :) I'm sure she is living happily somewhere out there.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful story with us! ❤️
Thanks I'm drunk and crying now
Your story reminds me of the Little Prince, when the writer said goodbye to the little prince, the prince told him not to fell sad, but to be happy, because now any star in the sky could be the planet the prince had returned to, and every time the writer looks into the sky he would remember the sound of the prince's laughter like a thousand ringing bells. When the writer looks into a field of golden wheat he would be reminded of the little prince's golden hair, and he would be happy remembering the little prince.
Cringey story and even cringier description. A shooting star is nothing like a pinch. Are you that bad at English you couldn't say "Its a tiny light that goes from one side of the sky to another and quickly disappears?" Such a fake bogus story
My grandpa was blind. If a guest asked him for directions to the bathroom he would say "go down the hallway until you run into a wall and turn right"
😭😭😭😭😭

but what if the blind people are perfectly describing their loved ones and the sculptor's just doing a not perfect job of sculpting?
*gasp*

*nobody* ruin the comment section like streak, I mean *nobody*
Yeah but just by looking at those sculptors you can tell that the artist is very talented, and also they did look very similar to the loved ones
And how would the blind people know what the people look like? I mean, they've probably been blind for a while, what if they were describing features not present anymore? Unless they touch their loved one's face everyday
this is actually really heartwarming
crosstownkicks right? So sweet
Awkwar d yup
Idk I start tearing up a little, if I were lose my vision, it would feel really lonely. I’m introverted and spend most of my time alone but I find enjoyment in visual stuff and I like seeing people. If I were to live in complete blackness idk how I’ll cope with it. These people are so strong
Yes omg, so much of our coping mechanisms have to do with vision. Endless instagram scrolling, online shopping etc. You would have to face your emotional shit so hard.
The woman describing Alana is the only time I will allow the use of the word hip and not laugh and cringe to death because she seemed so sincere describing her
My gf is blind, but she never really touched my face to envision what I look like. When I ask her about it, she just smiles and says "Didn't fall for your face. Fell for your voice, which is positively languid with heart."
D'aw. She's a sweet liddle muffin.

What is actually sad is the part that the blind people dont get to see the difference between their sculptures and their partners
They may be able to feel some differences when they touch them side by side
That's actually what made me laugh...
Zed Phobia yoooo thats too much😂😂

One of my best friends is blind, she’s asked me every time we hang out over the past two years for to describe to her a color, or what i think of a color. What it feels like or sounds like, we started with simple colors but then moved on to others, it’s the most fun I’ve ever had with anyone in my life ever
How do you do it? It sounds difficult.
@@juliusroman8616 well, take green for example. i took her out to my backyard and laid in the grass with her. we made flower crowns and picked leaves from trees. and since she was born blind her other other sense are heightened so i also give her songs that sound ‘green’ to me. it’s harder to put in words but she knows what green tastes like because she’s eaten broccoli and spinach. she’s felt trees and spines and all that fun stuff. its not always about the color but what it represents
2:50 you have a beautiful girl on the left and the right is literally the ice age dad

its lord Farquhar from shrek

I had a beautiful exchange with a blind stranger once who over heard me and my fiance at the time, now husband talking about our engagement. We were talking pretty loud because we were at a noisey bar and the blind man piped up and said congratulations and asked to feel my ring and if I could describe it to him, he wanted to know how the proposal happened so we proceeded to tell him. Giving detail to such a special event with out being able to just share a photo to tell the story, was a gracious experience trying to paint the picture for him. He smiled and lit up to our attempts at depicting it accurately. It was a new gained perspectice and a conversation I won't forget :)
And the man sharing that he just has to smile and enjoy others enjoyment, reminded me of own story.
This is epic. Honestly, sometime i feel like, words show more than our eyes. Because i feel that, words come out from the inside, and vision is let in from the outside.
awe
Goes to show you how different the world can be to someone, sitting right next to you. Great story to show how different people see the world, even though they are that close to you. inches apart physically, worlds apart mentally.

I almost went blind due to an accident I had in p.e class almost 1 year ago in a couple months. I lost my vision for about 30 minutes and when I was laying against the wall in my school gym my mind was rushing. The most important thing in my life is my ability to see the world. I love travelling, seeing different kinds of flowers and animals, seeing different landscapes and everything you can think of. I can look at anything now and be amazed by it purely because I know I almost loved everything that made life incredible to me. Realizing that I could have lost it all terrified me at first. I was scared, so insanely scared. For months I have been emotionally numb because of it. I stopped doing everything I loved, I became isolated again and I just wasn't me. I then decided to say fuck it and took an optimistic view about everything. I ALMOST lost it all, that's why I NEED to enjoy it now. I don't want to live a single day with regret anymore because tomorrow isn't promised and it never will be. I love life now and I want to enjoy every second of it because I don't know when my life will end or if it will ever come close to ending again. I just know I have to enjoy and treasure everything I have now because the future is never promised.
What happened in pe that temporarily blinded you?
I know what you mean, I temporarily lost my sight too after a horse riding accident. It was terrifying and I don't know how I would have coped not being able to see. These people are truly inspirational.
Police be drawing suspects while the lady here sculpting
Yuumi that’s a very good point😭
I actually think about this. It's way more accurate. Also they can usw 3d painter if they dont want to sculpt
Drawing takes 5 minutes and cost 20$ not 2-3 hours and 500$ dollars. Would you rather they spend that time to find the person of interest or making a statue for them?
has every criminal suspect had their face caressed enough to even be described for sculpting? imagine. before you commit a crime, a blind person comes up to you and rubs your eyelids. CRIME STOPPERS! The police departments should consider hiring blind people for sculpting, fuck the sketch artist. also on a very important side note... Epstein didn't kill himself.
@@SierraChey117 Uh you don't need to feel their face to know their facial structure
you can literally tell a sculptor how a person looks like and they will try their best to sculpt it from their imagination using the details you shared with them. But I guess it would be easier if they just sketched it out?
"I just have to smile and enjoy their enjoyment" 😭
Felt the same way 😭😭😭
I volunteered at a blind charity and the seeing impaired people I was honored to work with were the most amazing, fun, funny and brave and loving people I have ever met. I learned so much from them, like how to accept what life deals you, how to trust others, patience to mention a few. I cherish those times. Not all blindness is total darkness either, that’s a misconception by many, and that they can’t hear well, they use their hearing to compensate actually. Bless them, and all folks with disabilities.
There's so much love in those descriptions and the way the sculptor gave them shape. We are literally seeing the image those people have in their loved one's hearts.

It's interesting what the man said about getting his vision back. I've always wondered what world looks like to blind people and that man sort of gave me an answer.
***** not quite, the man said it looks like a fog.
Michelle Being blind is different depending on the person and how they became blind. See people only see different variations of light kind of like when you close your eyes and you can still see light sources and other people like the older man said have a blur.
I sometimes sorta go blind from nothing, where everything is faded but i can barely see the center. I never knew why, but eh. Here's what i see when my vision seems to go blank. It's not a dark black color, it's brownish. The center is your only vision. It circles around the center, and slowly moves in. Not much of a fog but of how a television looks like when there's static. (just not white and black) It's smokey. As for the center, where you can sorta see, you cant make out anything. It's blurry, but isnt. It's like going underwater, but alot less clear.

The one thing that I've noticed about blind people, deaf people, hearing people, and seeing people. They're all just like us. There's no difference in the heart- the mental heart and the physical heart,- and that's what makes us special. Everyone is so amazing and unique, and that's the only reason I have faith left in humanity.
