- For bilateral arm amputees, doing regular daily tasks without assistance from another person is very challenging. A device called a "dressing tree" makes it possible for bilateral amputees to get dressed or put on prosthetic arms independently. In this video segment, John Mitchell (Texas) and Hank Esmond (Indiana) demonstrate how a dressing tree helps them get dressed and ready for the day.
FYI: putting on a prosthesis is known as "donning" while taking off a prosthesis is known as "doffing."

Thausand thanks for sharing this video. Very useful for PT students.
Losing both arms, without stumps, is an horror !
@@barrydavid6634 if you want to become an amputee, the best feelings will be reached by amputation of one or both legs, well above the knee(s). Arm amputation makes daily tasks and other things extremely difficult, and really unpleasant ; but this is less difficult if you have one or both hands amputated, and your stumps fitted with the so efficient, exciting and comfortable body powered split hooks. But the most difficult, - and expensive - is to find a good surgeon to perform the amputations.
@@geneve2008 I agree because although I wouldn't want to do it anytime soon, I have BIID for DAK, but definitely not my upper body.
Hi, I'm an OT looking to find or make a dressing tree for a patient with very limited bilateral shoulder ROM. Can you share an info on how this dressing tree was designed and especially how the hooks were made? Thanks!
@@jamesryan7973 Hello, I currently have a patient that could benefit from this however was curious how this device might assist with pulling up pants as mentioned?
is this dressing tree patented? i would like to create a variation of it for my pt who has arms but very little functional use
