    Really enjoy your Xwing videos, much more than other reviews. They are succinct, clear, and help us understand the nuances of the game. I was worried you were going to stop with the two weeks since your last video.

    Another great and informative video, keep up the good work. Looking forward to purchasing an Assault Carrier at some point in the future and giving a Youngster+Expose swarm a whirl.
    Slightly off-topic but touching on what was mentioned on Expert Handling- I've found sticking it on Tycho to be, while perhaps not tournament build appropriate, a really fun combination to fly along with PTL+ Experimental Interface.

      +Kyran Evans-Beale - Yeah, a lot of people seem to think it's too expensive/risky on a TIE swarm, but it's the one I'm most interested in playing with. Marksmanship is a close second.

    Squad Leader is an action too. While it doesn't really increase your actions, it DOES allow other TIEs to potentially pass their actions if they know for a fact they won't get shot at to a target who is more vulnerable. You could also forfeit your action to another TIE that you know your opponent will want to focus.

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety

      +anotherwrld - Oh, good catch. I completely missed Squad Leader. Seems like it might be tough to get good use out of via Youngster's ability, but I imagine there might be some situations where it could be fun. For example, you could have two or three TIEs all give a free action to the same ship, creating a sort of "super ship" that could potentially take evade, focus, target lock, boost and barrel roll actions all in the same round, for example. I'm not sure that using the actions of several ships to turn one ship into a beast for a round is worth it, but you never know. Maybe someone will come up with a killer combo around it.

    • @torysaccount5753
      @torysaccount5753 Před 8 lety

      +The Cardboard Dungeon Imagine:
      You are flying a Tie-Swarm (2 Obsidian-Pilots, Youngster with Squad Leader, Scourge with Expose, Backstabber). Everyone has the Engine Upgrade, or the Targeting Computer.
      If only ONE Tie has a good (or bad) position, he gets focus, target locks, boosts, evades, barrel rolls, whatever he needs.
      This could be interresting.

  • @Ottuln
    @Ottuln Před 8 lety +1

    7:35 You would want this to combo with Wampa. You can easily nuke things that normally are very hard for TIEs to remove, like Corran or Whisper in just two shots, or land some easy damage on Fel, and remove his SD. They don't even get to roll evades.

  • @jetuhajice
    @jetuhajice Před 8 lety +1

    There is also Squad Leader & Daredevil that can be used with Youngster

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety

      +Jetu Hajice - Dang, it, you're right. Someone else pointed out Squad Leader but I missed Daredevil too. However, Daredevil seems really bad with Youngster so I imagine they left it out of this expansion on purpose. You generally aren't going to use Engine Upgrade on a TIE Fighter, and the risk of killing yourself by rolling 2 attack dice just for a white 1 speed turn doesn't seem very appealing on TIEs.

  • @dndman997
    @dndman997 Před 8 lety +1

      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety

      +Smashed Banana - Yep, a guaranteed critical for Wampa via Palpatine... Yikes. Think about this: Omicron Group Pilot w/ Darth Vader + Gunner, Patrol Leader w/ Palpatine, Wampa. I'd hate to be the guy flying a loaded Soontir Fel or Whisper against that combo.

    In regards to the free barrel roll before 9:21 ..... if a swarm is going to continually be threatened by assault missiles , getting the swarm to expand out to avoid damage... or Epic ships on maneuvering in on a swarm? Am I thinking on this wrong?

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety

      +Thugmun1 - It's not a free barrel roll; it still costs your action, and TIEs already have barrel roll native on their action bars so they're capable of performing it without using Youngster's Elite slot. And like I said, gaining the ability to shed a target lock really isn't a big gain for TIEs.

    that yngster with one other the other elite pilots you mentioned, with exposed helps make shore he get a crit though even more. as that card exposed turns a foces into a crit adn he can casil crits to deal one damge card to a ship. if that ship had clocking divice that a good get around. just my thoughts.

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety

      +Stranglygreen - Yes, Wampa + Youngster w/Marksmanship is a nice combo. Solid synergy there, and if you toss Scourge in as well, he benefits from having his ability triggered against any enemy ship that Wampa can put a damage card onto. Pretty nifty little three ship combo they snuck into this expansion.

    Expert Handling IS great, but only for agil ships without the barrel roll.
    Is is great for IG-2000 (a large ship with boost and barrel roll) or Tycho Celchu (with Prototype Pilot, Push the Limit and Experimental Interface).
    But you are right, don't use it for Ties.

    Youngster with Wired, could that work? its an action you perform with youre hands right?

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety

      +Spacefrisian - Nope. The Elite upgrade needs to have the "Action:" header for it to work with Youngster's ability. The three Elite upgrades packed in this expansion are the ones that give his squadron the most bang for the buck.

    • @tyme40k25
      @tyme40k25 Před 8 lety +1

      +The Cardboard Dungeon technically due to the "legal" writing aspects as "action" is not noted as such it is in fact able to be argued the anything that uses an active verb in its card description would be considered an action as it's written if it is something the "ship" is doing

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety

      +Tyme40k - Try using that argument in a tournament and see how far it gets you :)

    • @tyme40k25
      @tyme40k25 Před 8 lety

      +The Cardboard Dungeon do you one better since when "action" on a card is in bold when it is meant to be an action such as an action bar, it is therefore conceivable that as the writing is not in bold it is not referring to the same "ACTION"

  • @lyianx
    @lyianx Před 8 lety +4

    Scourge im pretty sure is pronounced /skerj/, like Scourge of the Seven Seas.
    7:50 there is. This would allow Wampa to get the crit he needs to cancel to apply damage cards, which would then let Scourge roll an extra attack die on that same ship.
    9:25 I agree. I used it in a store tournament to counter someones Latts Razzi squad and protect my E-wing. But it really didnt help me that much so i may switch it out for elusiveness to counter wampas crit die (since E-wings only have 2 hull) and it would be more widely useful.

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety +2

      Yes, I thought about the synergy between Marksmanship and Wampa shortly after recording the video. I didn't consider the added utility to Scourge, though, since that combo directly enables his ability. Very cool. I feel like there are multiple such interactions between these four TIE pilot.... almost as if they were designed to fly together. Perhaps even be launched from some kind of carrier as a cohesive unit.

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 7 lety

      Yes Marksmanship works like an offense-only Focus action, with the exception being that the first eyeball you convert becomes a critical hit and any others become normal hits.

    Completely off topic haha...but I'm a complete noob and am curious...
    Does Darth Vader with the Expert Handling upgrade get to take 3 actions per turn? Or does Expert Handling count as 1 of his 2 actions per turn (even though the barrel roll is 'free')?

      Never mind! He answers my questions at 09:00
      This will make my mom sad...but will make me happy! lol :)
      (we played a game the other day...single ship 40 points each. It was Darth Vader (mom) vs. Luke Skywalker (me) where she had expert handling and engine upgrade (gave her the ability to take boost actions)...and we thought she got 3 actions per round since the barrel roll was 'free'. Though I hit her pretty dang hard and had her down to just 1 hull left...she in the end took the game because she was able to stay out of my firing arch like a BOSS haha. It started to feel quite unfair midway through the game that she was getting 3 actions though (...though to be fair, my mom was equally frustrated with my R2-D2...lol I must've gained something like 10 energy off of him throughout the game!).

      haha no...and frankly she doesn't need to! xP Vader stomped me yet again earlier tonight (in a Luke vs. Vader single ship game). he's insane at being able to stay out of my firing arch with barrel rolls and boost (from the engine upgrade card). I WILL crush him...just taking me some time to learn how to fly well enough to keep the sucker within my firing arch.

Heck i could buy a latte and an enjoyable video game for that. After i bought the tie defender, and played a few games, i thought to myself, "did i really just pay 15 bucks for something that should be half that price?" That is when it died for me.

      +Tripp Fields - Compare the pricing of X-Wing ships to any other tabletop miniature game on the market; i.e. Warhammer 40k, WarMachine, etc. Most of those come unassembled and unpainted, and with minimal or no game accessories for the same cost as an X-Wing expansion. $15-$20 for a ready to play seems reasonable to me.
