    Another great review from the Cardboard Dungeon. One detail, that while Jake Farrell can boost or barrel roll after getting a focus, he can only do so if he didn't already take the same action earlier in the round (because of the general rule that a given action cannot be performed more than once).

      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 9 lety +1

      HirionOfDale Yes that's true. I should have been more clear in my example. Jake could take a focus action, then boost or barrel roll, and then get assigned focus later in the round, and then perform the other action (boost or barrel roll) that he didn't already take.

      I understood what you meant and I reckon most people who play the game a lot will as well, but I wanted to toss a note in because it is one of those small rules that easily get overlooked and missed when learning the game - that can come back and bite you when moving on to play in tournaments.

    Very informative review. I picked up one of these sets because of it when I was going to get just a B-Wing. Ended up getting the maroon A-Wing too. Would be nice to have the Ten Numb card from the original B-Wing but I can look at one and write it on an index card for now to see how it plays.

    Just to have it mentioned Keyan Farlander is the pilot whose role you take in the original X-Wing. In the EU/Legends continuity he becomes a Jedi later on.

      Rylan Joran Nice - I didn't make that connection even though I played a ton of X-Wing (and TIE Fighter, and X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter).

      The Cardboard Dungeon Thanks, by the way, I checked if I remembered it correctly and yes, the Y-Wing, you see, escaping the first deathstar's explosion, at the end of Star Wars IV, A new Hope, is piloted by Farlander. Must be a hell of a pilot to survive that battle in a Y-Wing, which was the starfighter I hated most. But I loved the A- and B-Wing.

      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 9 lety

      Rylan Joran That's pretty cool. I had no idea that Farlander was in A New Hope. You're right, too - that Death Star battle was open season on those poor Y-Wing pilots - it is pretty amazing that any of them got out alive.

    Hey, Pat! Would you ever consider putting a segment in your reviews looking at the mission tokens and mission setups included in the packs that have them?

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 8 lety +2

      +Sean Mealins - No, probably not. As you can see already, I have very little time to spend on videos as it is (hence the super super late huge ship vids). Sorry.

    Interesting. If I'm looking to build a Rebel set, would there even be any benefit to buying individual A-Wings or B-Wings instead of a few copies of this expansion?

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 9 lety +1

      Raindance Bushcraft You can certainly field very competitive A-Wing or B-Wing builds out of this expansion, so I guess it would depend on what cards you want. The A-Wing expansion has Tycho Celchu, one of the best A-Wing pilots in the game, as well as a copy of the always useful Push the Limit; the only place that you can get that card unless you buy the Imperial Aces expansion. The B-Wing expansion has some good solid pilots, and also the Fire Control System, Advanced Proton Torpedoes and Autoblaster upgrades, which are all very nice.

  • @Spacefrisian
    @Spacefrisian Před 8 lety +1

    Just wondering, how does Tycho with a wing test pilot, push the limit and wired, you stress because you do actions, and you can re-roll all focus on the dice you get, seems usefull.

    Good review, thanks. If you could either buy this expansion or the individual A-Wing/B-Wing x-packs, would you get this one?

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 9 lety

      specialj99 If I had to choose between one or the other I'd get this Aces pack over the individual ships. The pilots are great and there are some really good upgrades for both ships.

      I got my Aces yesterday and must say that i like the Models alot, but they could have included at least some of the regular elite upgrade cards form the normal b- or a-wing expansion.

    so Jake can take focus, barrel roll off ability, be assigned focus from Kyle, boost off ability, and then PTL for target lock? 6 things a turn... OP OP OP

      lyianx To be fair, B-Wings were always pretty impressive. But this expansion certainly does give them some really powerful new stuff.

    • @lyianx
      @lyianx Před 9 lety +1

      The Cardboard Dungeon I have yet to own a stand alone B-wing, but i do have this expansion. Given your statements about the B-wing, i kinda feel that the Crew upgrade should have been a Y-wing card instead of a B-wing card.

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 9 lety

      lyianx Yeah, the Y-Wing needs some help but I'm not sure a crew slot is the right fix. It's got some love coming in the Scum & Villainy Wave 6 expansions though.

    • @lyianx
      @lyianx Před 9 lety +1

      The Cardboard Dungeon
      Crew slot with "Gunner" or Luke Skywalker would be close to that the title gives, without giving up the turret effect, so if you did not have a ship in your firing arc, you could still use the turret. Nien Nunb would also help it move quickly, Recon Specialist to give 2 focus.. Basiclly it opens up abilitys for the Y-wing. But perhaps you are right. Maybe the SnV upgrades will be enough to make it viable. I just thought it made more cannon sense, as the S3 variant Y-wing had a gunner position as well. As as you say, the b-wing wasn't really hurting for this upgrade.

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 9 lety

      lyianx I really like that Y-Wing title although I sort of wish it didn't take away the turret's ability to attack outside of the frint firing arc. Y-Wings don't maneuver all that well. It does improve the firepower if you can get into position to make a double attack against a target in front of you, though. I guess we'll see if it gets more Ys into competitive play.

    Hi, i am new to this, but why would i want to use a Evade action instead of a Focus?

    • @thecardboarddungeon8770
      @thecardboarddungeon8770  Před 9 lety

      TheFewzz Focus increases your chances to either hit during an attack roll or evade during a defense roll, but it doesn't guarantee anything. An Evade token guarantees that you'll be able to cancel one hit during an attack against your ship, in addition to any Evade results rolled on the defense dice. Which one to use is situational - if you're not worried too much about being attacked, take Focus so you have the option if you roll Focus results on your attack dice. If your ship is low on health or facing a lot of attacks, an Evade token might be the difference between surviving the round or being destroyed.
