Hiya, pleased to meet you. Stukulele became my 'persona' when I became a ukulele instructor in 2011 (not to be confused with Stu Fuchs who is a mentor of mine and a mighty fine player and teacher). I am from Mullumbimby, Northern New South Wales, Australia and a James Hill Ukulele Initiative Certified Level 3 teacher.
I began playing ukulele at age 42 (10 years ago this year) when I was gifted a ukulele for fathers day. Things have not been the same since. My (at the time) 6 year old daughter landed me my first teaching job at her primary school… then came community colleges… after 4 terms my students asked where do we go now now? A monthly UKE NIGHT - Uke Mullum lead by my partner Miss Amber and me... 'Stukulele' was born in July 2011 in the middle of our winter… over 200 people showed up on a Wednesday night.
Since then I have been creating monthly themed UKE NIGHTS which consists of choosing a theme, then picking 20 + songs that fit the theme to create a songbook. Then I assemble the best vocalists and musicians to present the themed set live for an audience of folk who sing and strum along. It’s a month long process in which I learn and teach songs that often I have never played or sometimes even heard of.
Why you may ask? Because I love it. Music is the language of love and it keeps your brain active, staving off all the ravages of old age. The Ukulele just makes the whole process so enjoyable and achievable. Come with me every month, be involved in choosing the monthly themes.. discover and learn new songs. Broaden you repertoire, your mind, ukulele skills, compassion and speak the language of love and be a part of a community of like minded folk.

Thank you Stu! I'd been struggling with strumming all week and becoming increasingly frustrated, until I discovered your tutorial. Love it. Well done :)
Music to my eyes Belle. Glad I can help out.
Glad to have heard the very best explanation to the technique of rhythm and timing for playing a ukulele, most appreciative. Thank you.
Wow Diana, Thanks so much Diana, Glad to have read this excellent comment.
Thank you! Finally the explanation to that ''chuck'' all the ukulele players are producing. And I just couldn't figure out how! But now I know! Awesome!
I just discovered your tutorials yesterday. They are simply the best and provide all the missing pieces for me. 👍
Happy you have found me. Stay tuned. Glad I can help.
Yes nicely explained.
I used to think the backbeat was the same as the up-strum.
Thank you. I'm finally getting viable upstrokes with the index finger. Still have a ways to go to getting close the sound being the same for both the down stroke and the up stroke.
Good tutorial. It's very helpful.❤
Thank you, very informative. Going to stick with you. Cheers!!!!
Nicely explained
- especially about the backbeat. Many strummers miss this point. Well done!
Thanks Bob. I appreciate you taking the time to say so. Happy International Ukulele Day!
Great teacher thanks canungra qld
Thank you.
The chuck is more difficult than it looks. Thanks for the tutorial.
Excellent
Great tutorial! Very useful to a Ukulele newcomer. Is there a follow up video? Maybe covering 4/4 vs 3/4 timing and different patterns for different songs? On CZcams there doesn't seem to be a clear sequence of your tutorials. Superb style and encouraging manner make your lessons easier to follow than most on here.
Very informative video and good tips about the flick! Very good lesson for beginners like myself. Thanks!!
Yay! Glad I can help!
Cracking vid from a new comer. thanks.
music to my eyes Les. Glad to be of service.
Very helpful Stu, thank you x
Loved the detailed lessons and your methods 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Milton. I really appreciate your feedback.
Great explanation. Thanks.
Thank you so much. Your clear teaching has got me back into practicing. Many thanks
Music to my eyes Shaili!
This is helping me finally get the chuck down, after days of trying. Awesome!
Mike Farmer yesss!
Just started age 80, young and keen to learn enjoying your tutorial
Amazing Arthur. Keep in touch. You're an inspiration.
Just what I needed!
Love to hear those words Kieran. Thanks for the feedback. Please share the video. It's a big help.
This was great, thanks.
Thanks for the feedback Susan. Please do share. Happy International Ukulele Day!
This is brilliant! I've been trying to improve my strum - technique and rhythm and timing - forever! Well since I started playing with the uke a few years ago. I think if I practice these ideas regularly it might help a lot! Thank you!
Works for me Marie. We all have different physiology, though the main lesson here is to have clean eight notes (down up down up) with an accented back beat. (2 & 4) :duDuduDu love to hear how you go after trying these ideas.
this is very helpful lesson for this newbie... btw, ur uke is beautiful; it must be custom? I dont see a logo on the head stock.
yes it is a 'Matti'. I don't the guy is still making them.
I have trouble with my non strum fingers clicking on 😮the uke top.
Hmmm. Maybe change the shape of your arm and wrist to angle those fingers away from the top. Hard to know without seeing whats happening for you.
