Hiya, pleased to meet you. Stukulele became my 'persona' when I became a ukulele instructor in 2011. I am from Mullumbimby, Northern New South Wales, Australia, and a James Hill Ukulele Initiative Certified Level 3 teacher.
I began playing ukulele at age 42 when I was gifted a ukulele for fathers day. Things have not been the same since. My (at the time) 6-year-old daughter landed me my first teaching job at her primary school… then came community colleges… after 4 terms my students asked where do we go now? A monthly UKE NIGHT - Uke Mullum lead by my partner Miss Amber and me... 'Stukulele' was born in July 2011 in the middle of our winter… over 200 people showed up on a Wednesday night.
Since then I have been creating monthly themed UKE NIGHTS which consists of choosing a theme, then picking 20 + songs that fit the theme to create a songbook. Then I assemble the best vocalists and musicians to present the themed set live for an audience of folk who sing and strum along. It’s a month-long process in which I learn and teach songs that often I have never played or sometimes even heard of.
Why you may ask? Because I love it. Music is the language of love and it keeps your brain active, staving off all the ravages of old age. The Ukulele just makes the whole process so enjoyable and achievable. Come with me every month, be involved in choosing the monthly themes.. discover and learn new songs. Broaden your repertoire, your mind, ukulele skills, compassion and speak the language of love and be a part of a community of like-minded folk.

I do not even have an ukulele, but I have to admit that your cover of this song is wonderful.
Awww. Thank you. Much appreciatede. Stu
I'm really happy you named the notes in your riff, a lot of tutorials just use numbers like tabs, it really is helpful to know the notes
Thanks Chad. Good to know.
You are a very good teacher.
That was way outside my league as I'm still a newbie, however, the way you explain it and show everything is really top-notch, very easy to understand. Great tutorial, thank you
Boltik1 thanks for the comment. Greatly appreciated.
Thank you! I love the way you play it!
Love the clear, precise instructions! Great arrangement!
That's a great one Stu! Now I just have to practice, practice, practice it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!
Well done lesson! That was so clear and concise, I picked it up real quick. I really appreciate you! 🙏

Thank you for load videos, you are amazing, greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
Yay Jack!! Thank you
Hey Jack! I was in your beautiful country earlier this year. I love your vallenato music!
Awesome tutorial. This will be my new song to learn. Also, that your clothes and studio were “painted black” was a nice touch and made the uke and your hands stand out which helped in focusing on them.
Yeah! thanks for noticing Doug. (that's also my dad's name)
Wow !! fantastic arrangement! Can't wait to work on it. I'm still on Pearly Shells, but looking forward to working up to this. You make it look so easy, thanks!
I will start trying to learn this tune this week, I've always liked it but never thought I was good enough..thanks for your easy to follow tutorial..

Wow!!! Really beautiful and helpful too! Your playing inspired me to hard work and learn to play like you!
Thank you, Roamana. Your comment has inspired me to be a better teacher and performer.
Wow I love this song. Your rendition is simply amazing. I hope I can play as good as you someday.
Thanks Ron. Too kind. 😊
Thank you so much!
Thank you for that amazing avatar Silvia!
Standard turning, capo on 6th thret, bottom 4 strings only. Makes the sounds of a ukelele and is fun to mess around with. Just saying.
Great tutorial
Thanks, James!!
hahaha that was fun!😁
thank you for this tutorial! Greetings from Germany 🙂
Thanks, Anne. Lovely to hear from you.
Have you thought of doing dome Sea Shanty Tutorials? Thanks Stu!
Yeah, they are suddenly very popular again.
EXERLENT,I LOVE HOW U PLAY THIS TK U , I LEARNT THIS ON GUITAR AND FOUND IT PRETTY TRICKY I LOOK FORWARD TO LEARNING IT ON UKE TKS HEAPS 🥰💗❤🧡💛💙💜
Thanks Shell. Glad to know this video is doing some good. All the best, Stu
nice vidéo thank you
thank you Franck. Great to hear from you.
I'll get my first uke on 7 February. I'm looking forward to learn from your channel sir.

Do you recommend any books for a super newbie, like being serious about it for a week. I'm still learning the chords. I love the way you mix strumming and finger picking. My books show just strumming or finger picking, they never combine them like you do. I learn much better if I have something I can study in front of me. Thank you
Hey Ron, No titles are coming to mind though James Hill has some excellent resources. It will involve reading musical notation. I learned from James myself... www.uketropolis.com/
@@ukemullum Thank you, I'll check him out.
Thank you for such an amazing video I love this song, it is full of energy! Have you ever thought of doing tutorial for the song She´s A Mystery To Me? I cannot get it out of my head :) Greetings from Czech republic!
Hi Marie, I don’t know that one. I shall check it out. Thanks for the great comment.
Oh. Roy Orbison. Yes I do… ok it’s on the list.
@@ukemullum amazing ;)
at 11:15 in stead of going to the E string could you just hit the 4th fret on the C string or would this cause some weird effect that I do not know about?
Nope, that would work as well. You do get a different resonance so it's a choice thing. Thanks Nathan
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
☺☺☺❤❤❤🤟
Hi Stu,is it easy to get the tabs and lyrics from someone thats not very good with computers?
Great tutorial! I'd like to know how did you create that tapping/percussion sound by tapping the bottom side of you uke. I tried doing it but couldn't get the same kind of sound. Thanks!
I'm using my fingers and thumb... you need a whipping kind of action to get the sharp sound.
Will practice on that. Much appreciated Stu. Thanks!
@@100cancerdoc here to help. Anytime. STU
Great lesson, but you have the beginning at the end
it's a topsy turvy old world Casey
Im actually going to get my first uku and i was wandering if your using a tenor or a baritone
This is a tenor in this video. Baritone has different tuning and is not so compatible with most uke clubs as a result. Lovely to play, though best as an add-on to your arsenal. (you'll know what I'm talking about in about 12 months...) Stay Tuned!
great job! i got a copyright strike for posting my uke cover of this song... :/ how did you avoid that?
Never had a strike just have to share revenue with the publisher which cool by me. You must have done a great version!
uke mullum ahh, im not even monetized yet, so who knows... and can i ask what program you used for your chord diagrams?
@@songswithcam669 mostly the adobe suite... illustrator / photoshop sometime I use the font from chordette-ukulele (which is indeed the font you see here in the playthrough)
Does anyone ever strum d minor with their fingers aligned 132 or will that incur a bad habit for my learning journey
Or just cheating it even more with 1 22 (both fingers on both strings)
The second version is handy. I see the first one a lot and don’t recommend it…
@@ukemullum yes I tried out the second one and it worked a bit better thanks so much
Whats the name of your ukulele?
It's a very rare, custom made MATTI Uke. As far as I know the dude is no longer making them. I love it. It's in the shop having the intonation adjusted as I write. Beautiful tone!!! Thanks for the comment.
Lovely content! Keep up the great work. If you have a second you could take a look at my page and sub if you enjoy it 💛❤️
I don't understand the things
What things?
3 seconds into the video.. nope

Those aren’t even the chords your playing 😂I tried it out ( I was in tune) and it didn’t work 😂
Are you playing a baritone?
