After the fall of the Soviet Union in '89, NATO promised not to encroach its boundaries towards Russia. Step by step, they have broken that promise. Pushing Ukraine to be a new NATO member was one of the concerns Russia has. The other was the eight biological weapons plants placed in Ukraine, which this administration denied the existence of. The aggressive response of Russia was totally avoidable. Cease fire in Palatine, yet no cease fire in Ukraine. Why?

Russia invaded Ukraine due to NATO. In the 1980's, the US and Soviet Union negotiated that NATO would not move further towards Russia.

Russia ALSO stripped so much of the military infrastructure from Ukraine, including nuclear weapons, as part of that agreement. Most of what Russia has had throughout history is thanks to Ukraine and it's many occupied neighbors.
