Thomas and the Magic Railroad - 2000
Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends are being threatened by diesel engines like the surly Diesel 10 and his sidekicks Splatter and Dodge. Even the magical Mr. Conductor, who has always traveled between the train world and the human world of Shining Time Station, is losing his powers and sparkle. In the middle of this crisis, Lily meets up with Mr. Conductor on the way to visit her lonely grandfather Burnett Stone. Brave Thomas reminds them all that "even little engines can do big things."

I literally had nightmares of that horrifying train thing because seeing a train in the Thomas universe without a face used to be one of the most terrifying things for me. I had forgotten the name of the movie or the train itself, or even the point, but the image has stayed in my brain forever
Fun fact the original script for this movie was to have an additional human villain named P.T. I felt that the whole "cars named after girls" thing was less about objectivism and more about how it's more awkward to tell your friend how he'll feel better once he sees how cozy it is all up inside Bert here.
My mom told me an anecdote (that I have no clue if it's true or not) that the trope of giving motorized vehicles girls names started with Henry Ford - the anecdote as it was told to me goes that Henry was so focused and obsessed with designing and building the first automobile that he never found time to find a woman to marry which caused no shortage of ridicule for being "forever alone", so he gave the car a woman's name and referred to it with female pronouns in order to trick the people ridiculing him into thinking he was courting a woman.
Again, I have no idea the veracity of the anecdote and it could be a complete fabrication but that's what I grew up believing.

There's something deeply disconcerting about Britt Alcroft (the person who adapted the stories into the live-action model TV series) deciding to put a self-insert OC who has magic powers and is the only one who can keep Sodor safe.

As a fan of Thomas and friends and a Train kid, I can say that this was what screwed over the public’s view of Thomas and friends as a franchise. Before this movie, the show presented the Island of Sodor as if it a real place, and the North Western Railway (the name of the Sodor’s railway) was like a real railway with the exception that the trains have faces. Also the used live action for the trains too, the reason the eyes don’t blink and mouths don’t move is because they are literally just gauge 1 model trains so they couldn’t do a lot in the face department. They actually had to create an eye mechanism to move the eyes. *Also Toby is an London and North Eastern Railway J70 steam tram for those who don’t know*
*also y’all should watch Sodor’s legend of the lost treasure some time*
Thank you! For telling me what that box of a train was based on! Took so long!

Allow me to expand on some of the lore of why Mr Conductor is even in this movie: The original Thomas the Tank Engine series was paired with a show called Shining Time Station where Mr. Conductor would talk about Thomas with some live action and puppet skits similar to Sesame Street. Probably not the first to comment this, but the full extended and deleted cut of this movie helped explain the movie a lot better, and what was going on. All of it was cut out last minute because of test audiences’ disapproval
Diesel 10 was originally going to have a Russian Accent,
The whole reason for Diesel 10 being there would’ve been explained,

And, fun fact, this movie did so financially poor on release it caused the company that owned Thomas back then to go into bankruptcy and sell off the show 2 years after this movie
Diesel is a Soviet Creation? My childhood is entirely changed
Well, at first, he was performed by a voice actor who spoke with a gruff English accent (test audiences said it was too scary), then they replaced the first actor with a second actor who used a Russian accent (test audiences said it was too offensive?), and then the second actor switched to the New Jersey accent used in the final product.
Also, the main villain was a dude named P.T. Boomer (played by an actor named Doug Lennox), who was going to the be arch nemesis of Peter Fonda's character. He was actually behind a lot of the plot points in this movie, and gave the film a lot more substance. Unfortunately, test audiences said he was too scary for little kids (when the other bad guy was literally a diesel locomotive with a huge claw, no less), and they didn't have enough time to rework the script, and that shows in the final product

Fun fact: This movie was originally going to have more content, alongside a human antagonist, more set pieces, more characters, a different narrator, and a longer run time (original run time was 115 minutes, final cut is 85 minutes). Movie could've been so much better.
I can’t imagine what this movie would be like if Boomer actually existed
Oh Yah. I forgot about Storytime with Thomas. Since this is based on the 89-93 shining time station run I came to this movie for the humans. It’s still a bad movie.
I think the movie would still be a mess if the original script was kept. This movie just was not a Thomas movie at all.
@@Krystalqueen737 it would be more enjoyable
@@NatsumenoKage which is ironic, as this movie would've come out 7 years after it ended
Yeah this movie definitely has issues, but I LOVED trains as a kid, especially Thomas. My dad and I would sit on the living room floor and make train track systems for literal hours!! It was so much fun!
My dad and I did this too when I was a kid. I know I’ll be doing it with my kids someday too.
I would want to point out that Britt Allcroft (the person who brought the show to life, and is also the director/writer/producer of this movie) did the voice of Lady in this movie
My favorite parts
1:40 meet Thomas.
2:53 Gordon Pog.
3:50 concentrate Thomas.
4:28 shining time.
5:34 lady.
6:23 that claw on top of it can go.
7:08 I don't understand magic.
8:19 this is all just a acid trip.
9:48 maybe read.
10:54 buffers.
11:37 BURP.
12:24 it's sounds very very long.
13:23 talking trouble weed
14:44 you see Cole is a ore.
15:31 clean coal.
16:44 OooOoOOo00o.
17:15 and the lesson of the story is.
18:21 hey you know when.
19:00 sodor.
Don’t forget, 4:01 DADDY’S BIG TUMMY
Also 10:33 fast
9:54 Bertie the sus amoungus bus.
This movie is nostalgic but good lord is it a confusing mess.
This was the first movie I saw with Alex Baldwin in it. It doesn’t matter what movie he stars in, I will always think of him as Mr. Conductor!
Fun fact: the reason why the film was bad because they had to change the story due to a test screening. They changed the engines and diesels voices and cut a lot of scenes out but one character that was cut was a evil motorcyclist pt boomer. He was the main villain of the story but was cut due to being too scary
no, it was the premise was dumb, the acting was laughable, and the script was shit
Nah, the original version was bad too
15:53 Yes they did!
They rewrote it after the soccermoms complained that it was too scary for kids even though the kids loved it!
(It’s a Sony owned Movie. They have to put their hands on it somehow.)
Interesting
Pt Boomer
Can we get a “Allcroft cut” of this film?
@@TronicSSJ07
It leaked online a year or two ago but, that’s the original recordings for the film based on the rewrites that were forced. It’s only slightly better than what we got because it adds context.
Four versions of the original script (different drafts) were leaked online _YEARS_ ago. Those were much better but still a bit cheesy. (I personally enjoyed them!)
@@Trainboi1983He would have been perfect for the movie.
5:38 WEMEN
Their lack of knowledge of railways combined with their amount of knowledge of railways makes this even more hilarious
