I was planning on replacing the switches on my old Fantech Maxpower because it's already old but I still love it but some switches don't work anymore and I was looking around for alternative Outemu switches until I saw this video and realized I can just turn it into a hotswap keyboard instead so in case I run into some switches not working again, I can just yank it out instead of having to desolder it again. Super detailed and helpful video! Currently in the process of mill-maxing for the first time and was wondering if anyone has tips for desoldering these sockets? I’ve desoldered all the ones I need to, but there is still some residual solder in between the switch holes on the PCB that I’m having some trouble removing. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Would be nice to add the possibility to screw the plate to the solder pcb, just like the hotswap pcb. If you milmax the pcb its only held by the inserted switches (which are not nearly as tight as soldered switches) to the plate. Lots of foam can cause contact issues and increase the space between plate and pcb. It can even push the switch out of the socket and you loose contact…

Hey mode, i recently preordered the mode envoy 3 days ago, is there anyway i can change the plat from pom to alu? i clicked the wrong plate and i just realized it, i sent a note to customer server but they still didn't reply yet. Thanks
@@Al3xDkI'm guessing their talking about their customer base. The majority of ppl in EU I know that build custom mechs use ansi for some reason as well
@@link3457 I'm in some big custom community, discord etc and of course many using ansi, that's because we don't have crazy choice in term of ISO keycaps set and even more for me in france because of the AZERTY instead of QWERTY 🤷♂ But it's okay, i soldered mill max on all my pcb but it's only an auxiliary solution because plate are made for both layout so i have my switches on stabs location that are like plateless because they can't clips on the plate so i have to solder these switches. So it's a lot of process to have my ISO FR haha that explain a lot why ppl give up and use ansi
@@Al3xDk I grew up using ansi before I moved to the UK, I stuck with ansi, however my brother switched to ISO, it's honestly painful to have to pay more for keycaps since he wants the ISO layout. Last time I checked he switched to ansi now. Some of my friends from Morocco or France that use azerty also switched to ansi

I’m going to be replacing the switches on my Corsair K95 Platinum soon. Obviously, it’s not a custom keyboard like you have. Would these still work?

I read that mill max socket have life span 1000 swaps while kailh only have 100. So millmax are more reliable than kailh
new kailh hotswap (notably in the color white) sockets have 6000 swaps now
