@@brigidrosevarshavski don't get me wrong...i liked iCarly but it felt way too forced sometimes. the only nickelodeon show that literally felt realistic when it came to romantic scenes was probably H20 but that's because they were teens and so the acting was more legit.
The legit cringe on Dr. Mike's face when Carly kisses Freddy is just priceless. 🤣

Tbh looking back they didn’t have chemistry lol. Only as friends, now it’s a bit better
“Anyone who sends their kids to school is doing the wrong thing”. Hot take, Dr. Mike.
Yet, as a former kid who hated school, I endorse his medical opinion on this.
Yup. I guess no one should ever send their kids to school!😂
@@p-__ I highly doubt that
Sadly enough, many kids are latch-key kids, which means their parents don't notice they're sick. Also, because a lot of parents can't afford to take a day off of work to watch their sick kids, they don't allow them to stay home.
Nah we know what he meant: don't send you kid to school if they are sick.
I love the way he doesn’t mention that it’s bad to send your SICK kids to school. Just your kids
lmao given the context it was implied, but pretty funny come to think of it

The perplexed look on your face and Sam’s laugh on behalf of all of us during the kissing scene made my night. Thanks for the end of day laughs!
The fact that they didn’t choose the drake and Josh episode where drake is sick because he stopped eating junk food is disappointing
Well, not everyone is an expert on all shows, and his team probably picks from popular items. They can't know every single item from every show to know to choose the right one. So it's not a fact they didn't choose it, because it may have not been an option to them to choose. It shouldn't be disappointing, you could simply recommend them to work that episode/scene into a future episode!
@@tinntinnampgo touch grass

When I was 12 I had a REALLY strong fever. For days, my temperature wouldn't go down and I wasn't even conscious most of the time. So my dad gave me a really cold shower (winter, night, living by the ocean) and I screamed because it felt like I was being stabbed all over my body. After the shower my head felt like it was a boiling volcano, almost 2 hours after that I lost consciousness completely, the shock put me in a coma for 4 days. So yeah, don't do what my dad did lol😂
I love how he just takes fun kids shows and explains everything with actual logic 😅
Which, back in the day, Nickelodeon didn't do for the sake of kids entertainment
Sam’s laugh sounds so unhinged… I love it!🤣

@@nardiamcphee5239 I wonder what it would look like with Disney Channel shows in the mix.
You would think with how overprotective Ms Benson is that she would install some safety plus handy stuff to make sure Freddie doesn’t fall if he has a shower 😂
What a plot hole now that you mention it. She totally would have already had hand rails and stuff even before he got injured so he wouldn’t slip.

Maybe she thought she was going to be there to shower him 😂
@@huntern4454 The fact that she would still shower her kid is a little terrifying.
I'm glad Dr. Mike said anyone who sends their sick kids to school are doing the wrong thing because of something that happened to me when I was in the 3rd grade. I woke up that morning feeling feverish and told my mom, who insisted I had nothing wrong with me even though she didn't check and I did NOT have the habit of pretending to be sick to avoid school, so she sent me off. My teacher was staring at me and finally said, "Hey, you don't look well," and I told her "I told my mom I felt like I had a fever," to which she replied, "Yeah, I think you need to go to the nurse's office." I did, and it turns out I did have a fever (I don't remember what it was, but it wasn't dangerous), so I was taken home by a friend of my mom's (Mom couldn't drive at the time) and my mom ended up taking care of three sick kids that day; myself, my older brother, and my neighbor friend whom my mom had babysat since he was small. Needless to say, she never made that mistake again.
3:00 Love Dr Mike’s face when he’s witnessing the kiss scene in Icarly Lol!!!
My favorite part of that Drake and Josh episode was when one of the parents (can't remember if it was the mom or dad) asked the doctor about an update on the surgery. The doctor looked at her charts and said "I'm sorry. He's passed", and the parent freaked out. The doctor checked the charts again and realized their mistake and gave them the correct update from the correct file 😂
I remember an episode where Drake and Josh thought Walter was cheating on the mom, so they tried to secretly patch things between them, and they (Drake) made waffles with cumin in him. Unfortunatley, Walter was allergic to cumin, and started choking and gagging and stuff. I wish he reacted to that.
Josh: "Cumin is a Mexican spice. I said *cinnamon* . CINNAMON!"
It was Walter who had that reaction. That was hilarious 😂😂
That one doctor from arrested development 😭 “he’s all right” “oh im so glad his arm is okay!” “No we had to amputate-so now he’s all right”
After reading all of the disturbing things about Nickelodeon and the male producers that popsicle thing, lick til you're sick, takes on a much more disturbing turn.
and toes
My god. It's just a popsicle. Shut up.
And the feet thing… not seen the show except here but read the book and seen a few sets of feet already… wtf
I had pneumonia when I was about 20 years old, and it was probably the most sick I’ve ever been. I just felt miserable and I couldn’t stop coughing. After about a week, my voice was completely gone (which had never happened before or since), and then I found out that I had actually fractured one of my ribs from coughing so hard. I remember at one point lying on the couch crying because I literally felt like I was dying. Never want to go through that again!
I love the mention of occupational therapy (Not by name unfortunately) at around @2:30
I do that all the time, go into patients’ homes and recommend safety equipment!
Ned's Declassidied Survival Guide also had--if it wasn't the same episode-- a good representation about the different levels of heat related illnesses. I still remember the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke from it.

Would be so cool to also see some scenes from Victorious sometime! :D It surprisingly had a lot of (bad) medical scenes. The one where Robbie dropped the bag of blood traumatized me as a child lol
Omg, I was expecting to see that too! Disappointed he didn’t include it in this video here 😢
Plus there are other scenes involving medical situations/injuries in iCarly too, like the episode where Shane fell down the elevator shaft and got injured, or when Gibby fell down from the ceiling to the floor hard and said “did you hear my ribs crack?”, etc.
@@rabrencruz99the one where "Gibby" fell was done by a stunt actor for real and he broke all his ribs

9:20 Why don't schools just live stream the class for kids who aren't there?
Already have all the Zoom Equipment... Teacher would just have to turn her head and see the chat if the kids at home had a question.
As far as the other kids... the friends are already exposed, no reason to expose the rest of the class.
It would also be the kryptonite for kids who were barely sick, no longer contagious, but wanted to milk one extra day of rest & video games out of the sickness.
True and gross: a friend of mine from a Catholic family was the eldest of a large family. She came down with chickenpox. Her mother took the secretions from the sores or pocks or whatever you call them, put the goo on crackers, and fed them to the younger children so they’d all get it at once.
Dear lord, was she always doing insane things???

THANK YOU, DR. MIKE, for stating what I've been trying to tell the men in my life for decades!!! Men can just cut out soda and lose weight, but it is sooooo much harder for women!!!

Also, the longer hair with a little curl to it looks great
6:38 this scene made clad that I was a Disney/pbs kids chid mostly 😭
I don't know about other kids, but my siblings and I went to school while sick unless we were actively vomiting or had a high fever, because if we didn't, our mom would have to miss work to take care of us. And since she was a single mother, her missing work meant missing out on pay, which meant choosing between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table.
I too was raised by a single mum and she was exactly the same with illnesses - unless there is a lot of vomiting, you put your uniform on and go to school.
My mom was a single mom also from the time I was 8. If I needed to stay home, she just let me, but would check in. She knew all I would be doing was watching tv or sleeping, and I could do basic food for myself. She only stayed home if I was really sick, or needed her help (like throwing up and I wouldn't know what to do.)
@catloverKD when I was older, my mom also let me stay home, but otherwise, I was SOL. Of course, once I was older, she also started making me babysit my siblings while she was at work, too.
Let me guess. You're from the US? Kinda sad honestly, if a kid is sick they should stay at home. My country has paid sick days for the parents if the kid is sick.
@@elien1902 yep, and it's absolute garbage that parents don't get help like that. What country are you from?
A medical TV show that would be great for you to review next is Doc Martin, it's a British comedy drama that's just finished it's latest series, he is a GP (family medicine Doctor same as you) with a fear of blood, the show is medically accurate, and to top it off it is hilarious

11:02 BRO THAT TIMING!!!
I had strep 9 times in 13 months. The doctor told my mom and I if I came back with it one more time in the next few months we would have to look into taking my tonsils out. I never had it again. Thankfully.
That strep had a conscience.😂😂😂
Must have. I'm glad it did. I was 9 or 10 then. I'm 31 now and never had it again. Even when my kids have had it. I was spared.
right
Through middle school and then into high school, my brother and I seemed to get Strep' easily half a dozen times a year... Then we got to the Doc's office for a swab test, only they were OUT OF STOCK on the 15 minute versions... SO we settled for the 24 hour test, and got results the next day that we had Staph' infections... AND then the first round of antibiotics didn't help... and then the second... and the third... and tetracycline didn't make a dent!!!
It turned out to be MRSA, back in the early 90's... and it was something our Doc' hadn't seen in his 30+ years of practice. They didn't even know Staph could be so resistant... Finally, something called "Sulfa-drugs" were prescribed at about 10 TIMES the cost of otherwise ordinary antibiotics, and at the time, we were told "These are THE baddest antibiotics in existence. If this doesn't work, we don't know what the hell to do."
It was two weeks of crippling diarrhea as they WIPED OUT our gut bacteria on top of the staph'... BUT finally, we got clean swabs from the office, and apparently there was a fair number of medically resistant Staph' infections through the county... Keep in mind, we hadn't even HEARD of medically resistant bacteria, because it was entirely theoretical at the time... It would be months before we were relatively normal again, BUT I've never gotten strep again after that... In fact, I haven't had much of an infection at all since then... I've been food poisoned, but that's a different tale altogether... ;o)
That's a mess
7:23 thank you so much for addressing that us as females have a more difficult time losing weight from just cutting out unhealthy stuff like soda! Man, shaved Dr. Mike makes me remember the good old youtube videos of his. Him being oblivious to many of the medical memes and him going way too accurate over a meme
9:13 @doctormike PLEASE tell this to schools & school districts that use "attendance rewarding" policies to penalize students that miss "too many days" (including excused absences for illness)! Our local high school excludes students from attending functions like dances if they have more than a certain # of absences for the year, including excused, & rewards students with fewer absences with being exempt from taking course finals. As a parent of 2 kids in a school district that is short on teachers at all grade levels & illnesses running rampant weekly, it is infuriating that my child will be penalized for not coming to school ill.
Being a med student, these sort of videos cheers me up and gives abundance of knowledge which makes feel that i am watching useful content rather than just wasting time. Thank you dr.mike for being consistent and sharing your valuable piece of medical knowledge!

Well, I mean, if you quit drinking caffeinated sodas cold turkey like I did, then yeah, you'll get headaches and what not.
2:37 used to have a bathtub before we renovated the bathroom at my parents place and I had 1 really big scare. Was stepping out of the tub when I slipped on the side of the tub because an already slippery surface with probably some soap residue make for a really low-friction surface. The one thing Mike slightly missed when talking about there being "no withdrawal symptoms from soda" was caffeine addiction, which *definitely* exists and for me personally, can give nauseating migraines when withdrawal hits which is why I cut caffeine out of my life completely.
I went through that also. I gave up caffeine 2 years ago and went through 2 weeks of agonizing headaches. Wasn't much fun 😊.
Oh and by the way, I haven't had a headache since then🤔. Makes you wonder, huh?
I agree. I feel like any type of addiction can give you withdrawl symptoms - emotionally and physically

The section about the tonsil removal had me think about the fact that back in December,1949 when I was 4 years old I had my appendix removed. My Mom told me that she took me to the doctor in our small town and he told me to take me to the next town's hospital (which was about 6 miles away). She said that the surgery was done about an hour after we got there. The following December when I was 5 years old I ended up having my tonsils removed. So far, I've only been in the hospital was in 1969 when I gave birth to my son. I think that each time I was in the hospital I was there for a week before being released to go home.
Dr.Mike I'm so happy you made these. My son enjoys watching you. He introduced me to your videos asking if I'd watch because you reminded him of myself reacting to wounds in movies. When parents send their kids sick to school I want to scream. My students are so little, all they do is cry and stick to me, and of course I'm not going to be a jerk and say "Get away from me, you're sick" so I just end up getting whatever they bring in because they need comfort and then I'm out and miserable. 😑
Hey Dr. Mike. Got a story for you. When I was little(early 80s) I suffered with horrible infections that landed me in the hospital several times. One time in particular, my fever was so high the doctors did, in fact, put me in an ice bath to lower my dangerously high temp. Not soon after the Pediatric ENT took one look at my tonsils and booked me for surgery the next day. He bumped a patient it was so dire. After the tonsillectomy, I can say that I have rarely been sick since. The 80s! What a time to be alive.
Oh yeah, with the tonsils I think he said they now don't take them out that fast... I have heard of a fever calling for an ice batg, perhaps everything he stated is why they stopped? 😅 I too an an early 80s kid
loving your hair!
Doctor Mike is literally amazing 😌
The pulsating tonsils reminded me of when my tonsils gave me issues, and sometimes felt like they were "throbbing" I had "chronic adenotonsillitis" where I had tonsil stones, which occurred for about 5 years until I was able to get my tonsils and adenoids removed. Every doctor I went to told me "It's perfectly normal".... I don't think it's normal to be awoken 2-3 times a night with insufficient breathing and gaging out tonsil stones.
