As someone who worked on sprinkler and drip systems for many years, I found that the best way to fix a broken fitting or pipe is to replace it with the proper new part.
That's some valuable expertise you have there! Have you ever encountered any unique or challenging situations while working on sprinkler and drip systems, and how did you handle them? Your experience could be insightful for others in the field.
lmao @@tipsunknow
You wouldn't know the tip, if he just replaced it. Try using the search box and type in (replace a broken pipe) if that's what you want to see. The subject matter is very clear to see in the title. Where's the confusion for you.?
I see this same type comment on every how to fix a leak on a fitting , a hole in the pipe or the how to remove a glued fitting. These type vids on YT are for emergency situations. For instance you don't have any spare fittings , hardware store is closed etc. I figured your many years of experience and living on this planet , you would have acknowledged that.
@@jeffmosier3145 Well these kinds of issues are usually something you deal with when you know they're going to happen
Bad idea for a repair. Hours of work to repair a one dollar fitting. Broken PVC fittings are cheap, fast, and easy to replace. This takes far longer than fixing it the right way and this may still leak. I was a landscape contractor for years and did these repairs as part of my job. The only situation this makes sense is if replacement is impossible due to access, like the pipe is partly embedded in concrete, then this may be the easiest fix. This is clever but impractical. Also, this fitting has a portion gouged out forming a hole, but the fitting is not cracked. For most broken PVC fitting repairs, the fitting is cracked as well, and this will not work on a cracked fitting. This is like trying to fix a burned out light bulb by replacing the filament instead of buying a new bulb.
SS ... But you can use this idea for another fixations... It's just a hack bro.... Best Example.. , in lock Down we didn't get all the required things
@@kasiviswanathanveerannan5828 Very true. There may come a situation that it's the best fix. And it is clever.

Hello . Thank you for watching my video. Have a good day
He clearly didn't understand the context of your comment, but my thought exactly.
...while also ignoring health and safety. I'd hate to use the water that comes out of this. Probably toxic from the mess of gunk that's been fed into the pipe.
No, once it's cured, probably 12 hours or less, it has no more toxic effect on the water than the pipes themselves. It's called plastic.
Not professional in any way, but if you're dumb enough to think that it makes sense, you wouldn't know what Styrofoam, super glue, and scissors are.
If your over fifty and we’re into crafts this was used for years. We used turpentine and styrofoam. We coated pictures or homemade log clocks. They cover new river tables with resin. This was how we made resin back in old days.
Did not know that, thanks!
Good to know!
I remember doing this but it has been a while . . . remind me what the finished consistency is like? Is it pliable or brittle?
@@travisbickle9357 I had a steel pail and added about a litre of turpentine than added chunks of styrofoam and stirred till a consistency of syrup a little thicker if you want the finish product harder Start of with a cup of turpentine than slowly add styrofoam . Try different consistency and coat a few things and check next day
My grandfather had a Styrofoam farm. I remember harvesting the Styrofoam as a young child. Key is to raise organic heirloom Styrofoam. NOT HMO Styrofoam.
Very nice I'm sure acetone and Styrofoam are very safe to drink

Yah, you're not wrong, but fwiw pvc primer is acetone too
generally pvc pipe which is primed and cemented together is only used for drain plumbing, so I would hope anyone dumb enough to try this IRL wouldn't be poisoning their water supply
Styrofoam is nothing more than polystyrene and you eat off it all the time. Half your groceries come packed in the stuff. It is harmless. Acetone is an organic compound that quickly dilutes in water and that amount of exposure is meaningless to your health. You are in much more danger from the pipes themselves, which is still negligible.
Это клей или что
Just throwing this out there, another idea that I find that works really well is to replace the fitting that’s leaking. Somewhat faster then what’s going on here.
I'm very grateful to you for this, tell me more about your ideas, have a nice day!
That would make an even more boring video lmfso.
But yes just fix it properly would be much faster.
That's just crazy talk. This way you leave a potentially disastrous situation hidden
The only thing that would be more of a waste of time than watching this video, is actually attempting to do this.
This could work well for somebody if there's no play in the pipes. Also you lose a lot of pipe when you cut out a T. You'd have to add three couplings and another T.
I see a lot of people asking what liquid he used on this repair. It was super glue. Super glue melts styrofoam, and the resulting mix, when dried, is structurally stronger then just the super glue by itself. Also, since this repair was going to an outdoor water source, likely for the yard, I would use this method myself.
Thank you for sharing that information! You are absolutely right. In the repair shown in the video, super glue was used, and when combined with styrofoam, it creates a stronger bond than just using super glue alone. This method can be particularly useful for outdoor water sources as it provides added durability and resistance to weather conditions. I appreciate your insight and contributions to the discussion. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Thank you for being part of our CZcams community!

Thanks for sharing that valuable information! Using super glue to repair and reinforce styrofoam is a clever technique, especially for outdoor water sources like in the yard. The combination of super glue and styrofoam creates a stronger bond that can withstand environmental factors and ensure a more durable repair.

i thought it was acetone that melts styrofoam
@@webdevca Acetone works also
Along the same lines why not make some PVC "sawdust" by cutting scrap pvc over and over again with a power (or eve hand) saw then sweep the "saw dust" into a container and use THAT as your aggregate to mix with the super glue? I also woner if epoxy might be stronger?

If a hardware store is difficult to find I can only imagine how difficult it would be to find a supply of acetone. Good luck.

Doctors use super glue to hold skin together if you have a cut, and you drink out of styrofoam cups so I wouldn’t think it’s too toxic. Copper pipes often have lead soldered connections and many older homes still have copper plumbing., that is something to think about. So long as this fix holds well, it should be fine. It might be useful for someone who isn’t close to a hardware store.
Check this out in my boxing gym working on footwork destroy the bottom of your foot coach used to recommend super glue aswell and it actually works my friend was a ballerina and she also knew about that super glue tip and heard of it in her practices but never actually thought it was real I think sprinters runners could follow the same system
I don't think lead is used for soldering anymore. Lead free soldier (95.5) is used for soldering copper together now

I like how the majority of people are like just replace it. Whereas the purpose of the video is showing how to fix something in the event you need to get it done if you don't have the required replacements to do so. Invaluable knowledge if everything goes bad.
It’s because this video doesn’t have any narration saying this isn’t a permanent fix,and there are cheapskates and idiots out there who will see this and Jerry rig something rather than repairing it properly only to have it fail again.
The likelihood that anyone living in a civilized part of the world would not be able to got to a hardware store and would need to half ass something like this is extremely remote. Do I understand you correctly? You say that you painted your house with a color that normally fades, then brushed on a acetone melted Styrofoam glaze, which is invisible with no weirdness added to the appearance of the paint job. Then, the paint job has showed zero signs of any fading or other degradation for 10 years?
1. Is this correct?
2. What color?
3. What minor appearance changes happened immediately after using the Styrofoam glaze, and what minor changes in appearance happened over the next few years?
4. How much did it cost you extra per 100 sq feet, or 3x3 meter squared.
5. Where was this house? What is the latitude and climate?
6. To which direction was the front of the house facing - North, South, East, or, West?
7. Did you leave a control area (unglazed) no treated on the critical sides of the house that you are impressed with, and how did those areas fade?
8. What was the exact brand + grade + paint sheen of paint that you used before you Styrofoam glazed it? If you can tell us too about the chemistry, it might be helpful (acrylic, vinyl).
9. What is the history of the the past paint jobs? Color, fade, etc.
10. What surface preparation tools (psi, tips, chemicals, sanding tools, speed of the tool, grit and resin type of the sandpaper, primer steps? This question is the least relevant, since the surface preparation is not going to affect the fade of the pigment. Only chalking paints, over a chalking finish, might fade less due to a slower chalking rate. However, chalking paints have been discontinued for 2 or 3 decades, because people did not understand that chalking eliminates peeling at the expense of limiting the paint job to 10 years and chalk washing down onto the foundation or lower brick. A chalking paint will develop gradual ghosting as it ages. It requires tsp and a focused big power washer for the repaint to get all of the necessary chalk off before recoating, every 10 years. But this avoids a basket case of paint chips and 3 of blasting followed by 3 days of sanding, followed by 3 days of resurfacing with a primer and spot patching, every 14,18, 21 or 28, years, depending on how much condensation comes from inside the house (insulation, oil primed interior walls, bathroom ventilation, gutter leaks, plumbing leaks, storms on the windows in the winter, vent plugs in the siding) .

@@user-hg9cq3it2z в бутылке что за жидкость?кислота или ацетон?
@@user-hg9cq3it2z you are asking, I believe, if his glaze makes the house any cooler in the summer. In engineering science terms, we are talking about emissivity, which is the rate for which a paint absorbs and releases infrared radiation, which will impact the summer and winter temperature gained or lost.
His Styrofoam is melted and will not offer the traditional Styrofoam insulation, which is not due to the polymer, but rather the air bubbles trapped in the traditional Styrofoam polymer. This is why a huge piece of Styrofoam melts into a tiny amount of Styrofoam glue. Mostly air.
My bet is that the paint color and sheen will affect this. The micro layer of Styrofoam glaze is not thick enough to add significant conduction insulation. It would change the sheen. In theory, a Shiney paint will not absorb as much radiation, but will also not release it. What I have observed is that in the summer, the Shiney paint is going to be overwhelmed by the hot sun and cannot release it quickly enough, and the water based paints begin to self strip in a matter of minutes after the glossy paint is applied over a tight flat paint on a hot direct sunny summer day. This leads to a ton of instant bubbles the size of usa quarters all over the house side. The Styrofoam glaze should definitely change the sheen, but I don't know, because I have yet to try it out... I might try it out on a dormer side, where the paint sits against the ice and snow and usually does not last more than 5 years at the most. And isn't that visible and I can play with a pattern for the control against the experiment.
Will need to research the polymers in Styrofoam.

Brilliant! What a great tip!
Welcome to my channel! Wish you have moments of comfort and fun while watching the video! You may be a bit surprised by my use of foam and super glue to repair PVC pipes. But if you have any other ideas with foam or PVC pipes, feel free to share them with me! Thanks a lot! Wishing you health, success and happiness

Not a bad idea at all.. it can still save a lot of water and if it's done properly, money saved. I live in a 3rd world country and I find this hack very helpful.
I'm glad to hear that you find the water-saving hack helpful! It's always encouraging to see practical solutions that not only benefit the environment but also help save resources, especially in regions where water scarcity may be a significant concern. @@LoireValleyChateaux in response to your response to my comment: under all circumstances it may work better... But a legit repair makes more sense in all cases. **Honk**
I was thinking bubble gum and duct tape, so I guess we think alike. MacGyver would be ashamed

An old plumber once taught me to tightly wrap bacon around the cracks and then heat it with the torch. Once the bacon is fully cooked the leak will stop.
While using bacon to seal leaks might sound unconventional, it's not a recommended method for fixing plumbing issues. Heating bacon with a torch could pose safety risks, and bacon itself isn't designed for use as a sealant. It's always best to use appropriate materials and techniques recommended for plumbing repairs to ensure safety and effectiveness
Probably blocked the inside of the T quite a lot with the excess. Might be better to cover it over with a glued piece of pvc. Then seal up the edges of the patch. That way none of it gets inside.

It took you more time and glue than necessary. Isn't it easier to replace the tee? I drilled and hit the corner. I'm proud of myself. I've never done that. In two minutes I fixed everything under the pressure of cold water. Eight years have passed. It doesn't drip. It's good that you reminded me. I'm going to take a look...
It’s not about the leak it’s about the concept. You can apply this to many other plastic repair jobs. He’s showing it’s water tight
That's why only few people know this secret
The others died from cancer due to styrofoam and acetylene in their water supply.

А что капали на пенопласт то, что его так разъело? И ведь он может внутри тоже создать преграду для воды или даже частично перекрыть сечение?

Yep i have always done that with Acetone and Styrofoam. I have repaired radiators and blocked holes, many things with it. Its instant plastic that you can mold then it hardens. Don’t touch that with your hands and it has fumes. I wouldn’t drink from that water either.
Microplastics?
Might as well get some plumbing sealant and just jump to the step where you cut a small bit off the pipe and slip it on. I don't know what you have in the dropper but either way you might have to buy something.
You could have mentioned the super glue in the description of the video. I was wondering the whole time what you were putting on the foam.
Is that what he was using.
