2013 Ford Focus Loses Throttle Response / Power Randomly

  • I bought a Ford Focus from Ricart Ford Dealership in Columbus, OH in 2013. The car was great and has been except for this looming problem that I have not been able to get resolved. I have really been trying to figure out whats going on because I love my car but I think taking it to the dealership as many times as I have and getting no resolution, it may fall under a Lemon Law. Which isn't a terrible thing... I may just have to get another one!

It’s the throttle body position sensor for anyone who ever has this problem. Take it to the dealer, show them the video and tell them to replace it. It is a Ford problem as this car was brand new when I started having these issues.

Check the main harness for distress due to burning on the engine block. There is a Travel Safety Board code that says the harness needs to be repaired, covered and reinstalled to take care of this intermittent issues related to wiring.

@@db7jose727 if its the battery harness that he's talking about, yes there were serious issues with the positive line thats going to starter and alternator as well as to main junction box on firewall..that wire had melted thru at battery terminal and could also do same against block where harness is routed to starter..Dangerous and it would cause radom stalling incidents..car would just Stop running becuz wiring could short.. this DoesNot affect HP, engine runs fine,it will just turn off randomly and it could catch fire.

It's your throttle body position sensor, or the actual retention spring is siezed, just buy some throttle body cleaner and spray it while you have a friend Rev the engine . Instructions are on the can. If that doesn't work you can ither take it apart and change the spring or buy a new one. Have the same problem but the cleaner worked

Ford motor Co has issued a Tech Service letter for the Mk3 Focus, The fuel tank Purge Valve is known to go bad, causing the fuel tank to collapse and the engine to go lean. My Whole fuel storage system had to be replaced at 36k miles on my 2013 5spd manual ford focus 2.0. The tech letter also talks about issues with the fuel quality gauging system going a little crazy. I had miles remaining to refuel go from 200 to 100 to 700 mile left on the tank It also melts the cat too

It’s the throttle body position sensor for anyone who ever has this problem. This is 100% the cause of this,it’s called “limp mode” and it’s just a shit design by ford on there e.t.b. Sensors

2002 focus with zetec acting very much the same way..ive never checked TPS sensor only becuz its not throwing any codes for it, no codes at all but exhibits the same doggy acceleration..I notice it especially at intersections when i Need the car to jump out quick and get me across..in that case it tends to fall flat on its face and slowly pull me out of the way...not good!

Not sure if it's related but I noticed a 5 to 10 second delay when I pulled onto a flat stretch of road after being stopped on a somewhat steep uphill incline. It would rev but wouldn't accelerate for those 5 seconds.

2008 focus no throttle responce at times just slow speed like idle or just above sometimes slightly faster so I stop the car put the shifter in park then back in drive and it runs fine till the next random time. Shifting to N doesn't work only P. Figure that one out.

I have a 2012 Ford Focus. When you get to the dealership I’m sure they will either try to tell you that you need a new clutch or transmission or encourage you to trade the car in for an even older focus with no money down, no payments. Your car for an older pile of crap.
