Yes absolutely rebuild it!!! That girl antique tractor mechanic sure would!!! I would absolutely love to have a tractor like that!!! It would be even better if you could find an original loader to put on that beauty! If I lived nearby I would even volunteer a few hours to help you rebuild it!!!!!
I have a Massey Ferguson 65 looks like the identical tractor you may have leaky valve stem seals but you should be able to replace them by putting air in the cylinder and removing the valve cover Maybe they're pretty awesome tractors high and low range power steering I've been using mine for quite a few years easy to work on I would stick with it
I have a 1957 Ferguson F40, exact same tractor except for sheet metal. It's definitely worth rebuilding. While it's running check the hydraulics and PTO. The engine is a Continental Z134 with wet sleeves so you can do an in-frame rebuild. A sleeve and piston kit is available for around $400 from Yesterdays Tractors. These tractors are so simple and reliable and run forever. And parts are cheap and available. I'm in the Bay Area and saw yours on Craigs List. Good luck with it.
I would also rebuilt it. Next to oil consumption (blue-isch smoke) I also see rather white smoke = head gasket. Al least I would lift the head. And yes, please film it. 🙂
If you decide to dig deeper I’ll come along for the ride - what a great ole machine . One last of the Massey Harris line before a complete switch over to Massey Ferguson Back in the day we had a good Ferguson dealer in the area ,they placed a lot those machines on local farms .
It's worth rings and valve stem seals. What someone did was never check or change the oil in the air cleaner. In our 53 gmc pickup what I did was check the oil in the air cleaner and it was full to top with dirt. I cleaned it at 15 when a teen and put new oil in it and the rings never smoked so I did it in time.
It looks like your valve seals or guides are worn, but most likely I would say it needs rings. You might be able to hone the cylinders, but you might need to have it bored out. Most likely you can get oversized rings for this, but if not, you could get it bored and sleeved. Whatever the case, it will definitely bo better after a rebuild.
Depending on where these were sold, it could have been sold under 3 version/name for a couple of years: Ferguson 40, Massey-Harris 50, Massey-Ferguson 50. The Massey-Ferguson 50 came with either gas or diesel option in its last couple years it was built (1963-64). My dad's first tractor was a 1957 Massey-Harris 50, brand new, gas powered, same as yours there. The only dad hated is that it didn't have diff-lock. Later in 1968, mom's uncle had a MF65 diesel he wanted to sell. Dad tried it and found there was no real upgrade. He bought a MF135 diesel in 1969 with a 3 bottom-plow. The MH50 stayed on the farm til 1976. Dad always hated having to sell it though.
It will last forever. Has already spared countless horses and slave labourers. Enabled farmers to increase productivity through technology and innovation. Daniel was a wise man whose daughter Elizabeth married son of man who erected first homestead in upper Canada. A schoolmaster no less.
I would love to see it overhauled. We have a Ferguson 40 that used to run like that, and I discovered the distributor timing had moved a bunch. Once I corrected the timing issue the exhaust disappeared.
Hi definitely rebuild this tractor . It is so straight. Leave the body alone . All the parts are readley available. Please do it. If you can store it inside out of the elements. Thanks . Niall in Ireland
We are still waiting for an update video on this wonderful old tractor. How is it coming along? Somebody needs to make that tractor look and run like brand new! I would use the word restoration, but nobody on CZcams seems to know what the word restoration actually means. Some people do a few repairs on something and call it a restoration when it clearly is not. But there's lots of people that would really love to see this thing looking better and running better! So if you do not plan to make drastic improvements on this please find someone who will and don't let this go to the scrap yard!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting! Wish I knew enough to give advice from a practical perspective, all the knowledge I have on motors is second hand or observational, not practical. Best of luck and please do not call her dead, and hope you do a rebuild, even a budget farm job.
Do a compression test and a compression leak down test. Those tests will let you know where to start looking. Another thing to try is undo the air intake pipe from the carburetor.
I pulled the intake pipe, but forgot to film that part. With the amount of smoke, I don't think any more testing is necessary. It just needs a full rebuild.
after tractors have set a long time it's not uncommon that U have 2 clean the points 😮😮 next clean sparkplugs if there's no spark they ready 4 the trash can the distributor cap may be bad it doesn't suppose 2 have no cracks in it and if the rotor button is bad replace 😊😊 I thought the engine would clear up it didn't that tells me the engine needs 2 be overhauled new main and rod bearings cam bearings and new valve guides 😊😊 and anything else the engine needs and U should check cylinder head and the engine block W a straight edge W a feeler gauge U shouldn't be able 2 get the feeler gauge under the straight edge 😊😊 if not that's means the cylinder head and the engine block both needs 2 be shaved that will have 2 be done at a machine shop and U should have the machine shop 2 check crank and the cam shaft 2 see if it needs 2 be built back up they have 2 weld it and turn it back 2 specs I would overhaul the engine and keep the tractor 😊😊 OMG 9 16 2O23
Mosquito killer! Rings, valve guides or valve seals. The seals would be the easiest fix. Definitely worth fixing even if you have to overhaul the engine.
I would use 15W40 & toss in some Lucas oil for good measure. Give her a good shot of Barium in the fuel tank & it might tighten up after it cleans out the combustion chamber. If the rings are toast heavier oil is a cheap solution.
I don't know how long that tractor sit but I'm assuming at the Rings are probably stuck and it probably just needs to be ran it also could be the valve stem seals and depending on the hours of the tractor could just need a complete overhaul but I don't believe you have a water problem in your system I think that was just condensation from sitting
Love those older mf with perkins they got really good fuel economy love the old iron worked for awhile as jd test driver for engineers to much plastic and can't work on them
If it sat for a long time, you would see that much condensation in motor let alone rings could be stuck and allowed some few in there too. Need to put it under load and work at operating temperature and see what happens. What's condition of plugs? How much blowby? Not a head gasket. Sounds like it needs valves adjusted.
I've got one in my backyard right now, my grandfather's father bought it new back in the day. I'm 25 so it seems like very long time ago to me. I was always told that this was the last model of tractor that Massey-Harris made before switching to Ferguson. Is this true? I wish I could share a picture. It's been up kept.
Being it started an runs. It's full of old sludge up top. Needs cleaned out. Rings. Well worth restoring. Old iron is priceless! New stuff is way to expensive and pollution crap on them. Old is way better.
I bet if you drain the transmission fluid and hydraulic fluid you'll see that same little milky substance from the condensation of the cooling and heating of that tractor
90% of time white smoke indicates water blue and black smoke blue smoke be more oil black smoke will be running too rich and fuel and could be a little while
You didn't do the proper diagnosis on it. Stuck rings can take a few full temp heat cycles to free up the rings. The engine needs full running temp, not just a few more minutes
Do your self a favor and change the oil again and put the proper oil in. You have to run a non detergent oil sae30 or sae40 .You are cleaning the inside of the engine, a no no . The engine needs the non detergent oil, trust someone who has dealt with the old engines. Detergent oil was not even invented when the 50 was built!! And I had a few on the farm
Definitely a high class tractor and worth rebuilding. All you need of parts are readily available, which proves that these are worth saving.
Need some marvel mystery oil
I think it's a great tractor and it deserves a new lease on life.
Keep it and repair the Engine. Awesome tractor it's worth repairing it and keeping it
Keep it, rebuild it,
Definitely rebuild. Great old tractor, be sure and video it. Thanks
And yes that tractor is most definitely worth the engine rebuild
Yes absolutely rebuild it!!!

Rings, bearings, seals, gaskets.
And fresh blinker fluid!

thats the tactical smoke screen incase they had to use it in a war so they wouldnt be spotted also looks like a handy machine
Great for keeping the mosquitoes away😅
Drove one of those for years at my Uncles farm during haying season. I'd be interested in seeing it rebuilt, it would sell for more if done.
That's a solid machine so I think fix it rebuild it. Should make great video.
I would love to see it overhauled. We have a Ferguson 40 that used to run like that, and I discovered the distributor timing had moved a bunch. Once I corrected the timing issue the exhaust disappeared.
You have too rebuild it bud. I would love too have that old girl.
Hi definitely rebuild this tractor . It is so straight. Leave the body alone . All the parts are readley available. Please do it. If you can store it inside out of the elements. Thanks . Niall in Ireland
Stuck rings! It's been sitting for a long time! It could even have broken rings! I've seen that too!
We are still waiting for an update video on this wonderful old tractor.

Rebuild it or at least tear it down…love your channel
Thanks for watching!
Rebuild that , would love to see it
Looks like stuck rings to me. Cheers from eastern TN
Identical shape and size to the MF 65 which used a Perkins diesel four cylinder engine and some had multi power.🇬🇧🇮🇪.
Dig into it and fix it. Will make a good handy tractor.
Rebuild for sure
Looking for an update. I picked up a MF-50 about a year ago, it’s next on my project list probably around late summer. Great video!
Unfortunately it is still on the "to-do" list. Too many other projects have taken priority.
He may have spent 150 on the seat but depending on where he got the rear tires, (which look brand new to me, 300 each).
The engine has sleeves. Piston and sleeve sets are available. Your rocker arms may be worn quite a bit also. Bushing and shafts are available also.
Nice tractor, be nice if it was a Perkins. Fluid in tires and it's a box blade 6ft dirt mover.
At least in runs decent, good project to fix up and they are fairly easy rebuild , for sure rebuild it .
That's a Continental Z134 engine I think it has replaceable liners
Rebuild it.
Run a little trans fluid threw carb might have a stuck ring it's definitely worth rebuilding.
Do a compression test and a compression leak down test.

If not anything else you can use it as a mosquito fogger...nice project worth refurbishing.
Definitely worth doing a engine rebuild
hello from the Netherlands .
thanks for the video .
Sincerely Hollandduck
Parabéns belo vídeo. Que relíquia de trator 🇧🇷
If you decide to rebuild engine. Timing gears should be checked. Probably need replacement Parts prices on Continental engines can be high.
Mosquito killer! Rings, valve guides or valve seals. The seals would be the easiest fix. Definitely worth fixing even if you have to overhaul the engine.

Rebuild it is what I think.
The head my be stopped up not letting all the oil go back down
Rebuild It!

RM, it is good to keep the bugs off of you, also maybe vavle stems replace..
That engine has a rattle or a light tap in it it should run smooth as a sewing machine
Love those older mf with perkins they got really good fuel economy love the old iron worked for awhile as jd test driver for engineers to much plastic and can't work on them
The voting is over and it's unanimous.
We're waiting for the next video on that old massey!
If it sat for a long time, you would see that much condensation in motor let alone rings could be stuck and allowed some few in there too. Need to put it under load and work at operating temperature and see what happens. What's condition of plugs? How much blowby? Not a head gasket. Sounds like it needs valves adjusted.
Turn it off, your neighbors are gonna shoot you for the smoke. Lol rebuild it, it's a cool tractor...
Massy Harris were different on the hood on the right and the left side
That doesn't look like a whole lot keep in mind those old tractors the cast-iron they do condensate
I would have been concerned if it said overnight and water poured out of it before the oil did
I've got one in my backyard right now, my grandfather's father bought it new back in the day. I'm 25 so it seems like very long time ago to me. I was always told that this was the last model of tractor that Massey-Harris made before switching to Ferguson. Is this true? I wish I could share a picture. It's been up kept.
Awesome! There is something about this style that really catches my eye. I'm not really sure if it is the last model.
Why would someone spend money on new rear tyres before getting this tractor started, Rear tyres must have cost more then the tractor worth 🇬🇧🇮🇪.
Ohh that IS one WORTH saving, but please retain her in her 'working clothes´. ¨Just look at the M-H influence on the bonnet!
Time permitting, rebuild.
Put it to work for a while see what happens
Valve guides or seals
Repair what is needed and it will outlast the new tractors sold today!
So what did you finally decide to do with her? May I ask what you paid for it? What are you willing to sell it for?
how long did it set up? Could be stuck ring. two quarts of MMO in the gas tank. Run it, work it.
Rebuild
That's not a solenoid.
That is a relay.
A relay goes from electrical to electrical.
A solenoid goes from electrical to mechanical.
Absolutely rebuild or donate to some high school ag class/student to rebuild.
Rebuilding it will make good video content
Rebuild.
..Don't be silly... Rebuild. !!!
Oil rings are the issue
Are you sure the gas is not contaminated with oil/diesel?
Yup, I'm sure.
One...Where are you? Two If you dont want it how much do you wany for it?
I didn’t know some tractors had built in mosquito control!?
I was going to use it to chase the gophers out. Run a hose from the tail pipe to one of their tunnels!
@@rustyassets now you’re thinking!
rebuild it...
A tractor running on petrol!?
Put seafoam in the oil
Rebuild it and video it
90% of time white smoke indicates water blue and black smoke blue smoke be more oil black smoke will be running too rich and fuel and could be a little while
Continental z134 motor
Seafoam
You didn't do the proper diagnosis on it. Stuck rings can take a few full temp heat cycles to free up the rings. The engine needs full running temp, not just a few more minutes
After 41 minutes watching 4 plugs/wires replaced and an oil change, sorry but I won't watch a ten episode engine rebuild. Sell it would be my advice.
Rebuild it it looks worth it
Do your self a favor and change the oil again and put the proper oil in. You have to run a non detergent oil sae30 or sae40 .You are cleaning the inside of the engine, a no no .
