- In this British Army Married Quarter Tour video, I take you on a complete tour of the married quarter and explain what comes with the house when you take it over.
I also explain what it would cost a month and what bills you would be expected to pay.

When we got married we moved into married quarters for six months. Nearly 3 years later we moved out.... 😛 partly because we loved the disposable income from the cheap accom charges. We were on the property ladder anyway and letting out our gaff but yeah, cheap as chips. The flipside of that is I knew guys who had been in 22 years plus who had never bought a place. My advice would be get somewhere when you're in, even if you never live in it and let it out, at least you're on the ladder.

Wow top class video. A proper grass roots walkthrough for the unsuspecting soldier. What you get, what you don't get and what it will all cost. My last march out was in 2010 and I don't miss the beige curtains.

Just spent 2 weeks at the "home of signals", I can't believe how much its gone down hill.
I'd just take the (Basic Allowance for Housing) BAH, or whatever you guys call it, and live of post.
Given me and the mrs are trying to do just that, The tour is appreciated, thanks, also, Furnished or unfurnished? Which would you recommend? We dont have alot but were torn between the ideas
You can go furnished and it won’t be that expensive and it will come out of your pay

spent about 15 years in married quarters in Germany, Reg was posted back to the UK, wife walked into the new 3 bed quarter and burst into tears, absolutely tiny my whole house would have fitted inside my German living room , one of my friends had to live out of boxes because his furniture would not fit,
I've been out of the Army for 20 years and; the quarters are still as grim, dated and worn! Basically still no respect for Army personnel in the poor accommodation
They are getting better on some camps but some are still terrible.
When you join your regiment after training, if you are staying in the standard accommodation will you always be sharing rooms with people?
No, it will be single man most likely
depends on your regiment, and where you are posted, if you are in the block (single man accom ) you might find yourself in a two, four, or six man room
Joining the Royal Engineers and applying to go to 24 commando if I pass phase 1 & 2. We have two kids, would we have the option to apply for three bedroom?
Yes, definitely
Great presentation. Tells you are treated like shit. Housed like a second class citizen. And conveys all this without ever saying a word. That takes some level of constraint. Must be the military training.

Me and my partner are looking at military housing. I’m currently expecting our first kid but we’re looking at fostering. Would there be consideration for a bigger house due to our future aspirations x
Potentially yes if they are available otherwise you may have to wait.
Nope, you will only get a 3bedroom house if you acatullyhavw the 2nd kid. Most housing officers will not let you.
Have a look at the officers quarters……a different story.

Is it hard to get accommodation for couples (not married)
If you are in a civil partnership you can get one or if you have a child. Other wise it could be quite difficult
Go to your Welfare and ask for a Surplus Qtr
If you’re in a long term relationship you can apply for surplus housing but it can be a long wait!
I'm from the US and somehow we have almost the exact same hideous cabinets in older rentals here.

Yes
Are you allowed to paint the walls?
Yes but they have to be painted back to their original colours when you move out
Could i put in a new kitchen and bathroom?
You can but you will have to put the old one back in when you leave

A lot of it depends on the camp you are on. I have had some which I would give a 7 and some a 4
