2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Class III Hitch Installation

Hope this video helps some viewers out looking to install a class III hitch on their Jeep Grand Cherokee. This was installed on my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and should be the same for all 2011 - 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The installation is very simple and can be installed with basic hand tools.

I am surprised you did not have to run power from the battery. The demo I saw from etrailers said you had to run a wire to the battery. I was wondering why the power from the brake lights was not sufficient. I'll use the kit you have. Thanks!

What was the tolerance between the hitch and the frame of the Jeep? In other words how much gap was between the ears on the hitch and the frame of the Jeep? Was it a perfect fit or was there half inch gap on each side? I've ordered two of these and they both have one inch gaps, no quality control? When you tighten the bolts does that close up an inch worth of gap? Appreciate the reply.

Hello, there was a slight gap, maybe a 1/4”-1/2” total if I remember right. Then it snugged up perfectly. Did you order the same brand hitch?

2012 Jeep GC already has plug for 7 wire just behind bumper. Why didn't you use that rather than all the Fishing? Though I heard Jeep dealer has to activate that plug for a fee.

It’s been a while but not all of them have that, I believe it’s the later years that have it or maybe different models.

That is only if you have the tow package from the factory.

I don't have the tow package, and I didn't test it to see if its hot,
But there is a plug ith a seal on it under there I was just under there to put in a receiver (dont need the wiring, it's for an accessory carrier)

They’re the stock ones that come on the Grand Cherokee Summit. I found a set for cheap and had them powder coated
