I had suffered with reflux classic symptoms for a number of years (10/15) but used antacids to control it but eventually they became less efficient. At the age of 60, I spoke with my new doctor about it and he prescribed a brand of PPI. The effect was almost immediate. Wonderful. However, after taking them for 6 years, I read a report linking long term use with osteoporosis. I spoke with my GP about this and he arranged for me to have an endoscopy. The result showed a hiatus hernia and Barrets syndrome. The consultant arranged for me to have more tests involving putting a pressure sensor down my oesophagus to check correct peristalsis operation. We eventually decided that a 360° Fundoplication and hernia repair would do the trick and it has. Great job with one problem. The tightening of the lower oesophgeal sphincter means that although food and liquid can pass through, any air swallowed during eating and drinking and gas produced in the stomach cannot escape upwards and travels through my gut. This leaves me feeling constantly bloated with, at times, embarrassing results!

Doc good day. My father suffered ruptured appendix last January. 6 Month after the operation he suffered hyper acidity. And now he's not feeling well the doctor gave a medication but it turns no reaction.. Her doctor refer as to a gastro because she can no longer know what is happening. She say maybe there is a deeper cause. We're so worried. Because he is vomiting, can't sleep , no appetite and from 65kls last January after operation now he's only 51kg. He's a senior 62yrs old with a history of high blood that's why when he get operated he is at high risk. maybe because he's alcoholic before .we hope that he get through with it and get well. Praying for all the sick 🙏

The culprit in most cases: carbs. If I have bread and anything else on top, especially black coffee (that has really nothing that should trigger hotburn in itself), there it is.
About the acid food, I've learned it's quite the opposite as I can have lemon juice at will after any meal that doesn't have carbs, especially refined.
Of course, lemon juice without sugar and if I have bread or any other refined carb with lemon juice, I'm in for heartburn.
Replacing carbs for eggs, protein, salad, I'm safe.

Just woke up with a regurgitation of acid up the esophagus and into my mouth. Have had this before maybe twice within the last 6 years, but not this severe. Wow. Scary because it was so acidic. Sipped water and chewed 2 Tums tablets to try to neutralize as much as possible. In my 70s, overweight, ate a late dinner (too much), had my gall bladder out about 40 years ago, and also think I have a hernia I have been trying to control (weak abdominal muscles from being overweight plus had a huge incision from gall bladder removal) and was in a deep sleep.
Scared me enough to finally try to lose some weight (big in the gut area) and will eat smaller meals.
Very inactive in the last few years and frightened enough to try to avoid this again. I'm not fond of spicy food but think ketchup and mustard (oven fries and smaller burger with some cabbage shreds instead of lettuce) for dinner. Watching a few of these videos to get information.

@@rsraman3273 Haha. I don't really do spicy foods, but do like a bit of flavor. I avoid onions as much as possible since I know that really does not agree with me now that I am older. Haven't had that scary acid again since and it surprised me that it happened. I also do not get that burning heartburn sensation either (or in at least 10 years).
I know if I eat a late dinner I do not feel as good as if I ate an earlier lighter dinner. The things that plague us when we get old...

I find that Nexium and Controloc do not help in an effective way and barely show results, moreover; they tend to make your digestion even worse and slower!
Cutting fried food, wheat products and being in a gluten-free diet are all what I need.
I finish every meal with 20 gm of unsalted high-quality butter and I have never experienced a single incident of reflux or burping for about 8 months now! No matter what I eat, I can enjoy protein, fat and carbs during my active hours and I wake up every morning ready for a big breakfast!!
Those antacids have done more harm than good to me. I will never take them whatsoever!

Bloating, heartburn and bad breath are just some of the unsociable effects I deal with constantly not to mention the pain! I was prescribed Omepetpzole but am put off of taking it after reading the possible side effects, some of the most worrying being: osteoporosis and dementia! I would really really appreciate it if I could understand how a decision is made to administer such medication to treat an ailment that had the potential to create other serious ailments that can result in an even lesser quality of life. Please pardon my ignorance it is more of a worried concern in an attempt to weigh up the pros cons and odds of my original problems developing into something more sinister without this prescription. Short version to my question is, are there alternatives and do I really need to take them/ likely consequences of not taking them. Please help. Can you do a video about life after intestinal surgery/resection? My daughter was born with intestinal malrotation which required surgery, along with a follow up surgery about 2 years later for small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions. Several years later she is now suffering from chronic abdominal pain over the past 6 months that comes and goes at various intervals. Her doctors have run all tests besides imaging to try and avoid unnecessary radiation. All of her tests (stool, urine, blood, food allergy) have come back normal with no sign of elevated inflammation markers. She does burp and pass gas more than normal, so we have assumed it may be bloating/gas pain but that still doesn't help us solve the problem. When we cut milk out of her diet she had no pain for several weeks, but then it started again and we felt defeated. Cutting carbs would probably be impossible for her since that's basically all of her favorite foods, but we have definitely tried our best to keep everything in moderation, especially added sugars. We can't even say for sure it has to do with diet because sometimes she even wakes up with pain in the morning after more than 12 hours with no food intake. It's just hard to see your child in pain and not be able to do anything to help and we can tell she is starting to get depressed feeling defeated like there is no end in sight for pain relief. Thanks Dr.

I am going to try to eat smaller meals and not so late at night. Will try to relate it to what I eat the next time it happens again. Just woke up from a scary regurgitation up into my mouth that was extremely acidic and will try to figure out what I eat that causes this.
I don't like going to doctors as they have been wrong on other ailments that I have found my own remedies for online. I know we are not supposed to diagnose ourselves, but I seem to have better answers for other things so far. Try to keep a record of what you ate before it happens and change things if you can. Use higher pillows to raise your upper body?

That is a belittling remark. This channel is for those seeking medical advice not voice analysis.
