2024 hi everyone.
I fell in love to this channel around 2017 or 2018 when I was in my lowest point of life. Now I'm trying to gain my life back and I'm still here watching his videos over and over.
Not because I want to travel to the places featured here but I like to watch the videos he did. Idk, I also like the way he speaks and the way the whole video is. It's calm and relaxing at the same time tranquil and exciting. Knowledgeable too.
Rick I've always enjoyed your work but now that I've heard that you're paying your staff during this pandemic wile everyone is grounded I've found a new respect for you
Good to watch
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh you are grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded go to your room now
He's such a nice person! A grade school teacher has us watch his show....and as an adult he still comes across exactly the same way- just a really great person!
I took this exact trip, just as his book suggests…absolutely magical..,
i never thought i would watch this kind of show/video. it's like a tv show that i totally would skip when i was a kid and now i'm loving it lol it's so relaxing
@Fui Gebhardt1 True, also Rick fought for reform of Marijuana laws for many years, so he is not afraid to push for something he believes in.

I'm sure much has changed the city of Milano since CoVid. Many shoppes may still be closed. Fashion industry probably has plummeted. Some clothing stores in US are going out of business. Now, people no have more time than money.
I rushed through Milan and past Lake Como while on business in 2006. Would like to go back
Such a beautiful country! Italians are so lucky

Lake Como looks like heaven on Earth damnnn
It is...Put it on your bucket list! A must see for sure...
Yes, the lake is beautiful but the city, well.....
Lago Maggiore is beautiful too.Quieter than Como, you can get lost in the mountains and valleys around the lake, and there are pretty towns and villages to visit. I live by the side of the lake and see it every day from my house and I feel very lucky!
Just a lake, what 's interesting there? Baikal is the same and deeper.

Every morning, I make myself a cup of coffee and sip it while watching Rick Steves' on PBS. This episode was on today, Amalfi Coast yesterday. Oh my goodness, Italy looks like heaven on Earth. I so wish to travel to Europe someday. From the landscape to the art, buildings, ruins, and people - Everything is so breathtakingly beautiful and timeless! In the meantime, I'll travel vicariously with Rick :)
thank you so much :)

How I long for Europe. Far away in Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 West Africa, I have been traveling in Europe with Rick Steves from my bed since I was 9 years old. I am now 19 years old and my biggest wish is to be there in person one day. How I wish I was born in Europe and I am sure I would never spend a day without joy. My love for Europe developed when I started watching movies that depict the middle ages of the Continent. I am currently learning German 🇩🇪 and French 🇫🇷 hoping 🙏 that I could get I job that could make my dream of visiting my far away darling. To all the Europeans, please 🙏 take good care of the continent, love each other, and preserve the most beautiful culture of all time. Long Live Europe and Its Culture.
One can never get tired exploring beautiful Italia.
Grazie :-)
Rick Steves you are still the best of the best!
As a viewer, you don't realize how much work goes into this. I'm sitting home during the pandemic, watching Rick Steves and dreaming of future travels to these wonderful places.
Been to Milan and Lake Como, absolutely breathtaking but not cheap. Well worth the visit no matter the cost.
This video is from 2006, so before the crisis, from that year many things changed.
In the last years we built new beautiful skyscrapers and we renovated many parts of the city, not only the old town, and some of the 60 ancient farmhouse out of the city with a respectful design.
In terms of mobility we can be proud about our new electric car and bike sharing system that, integrated with an always better public transportation system, could really stop our bad habit to use private car.
We also understood that we have to open our great private gardens.
In the last year, thanks to expo and all the investments made for it, i've really seen Milan as an European Capital and I hope we will restart to attract talents from abroad.
We are on the right way. Bella Milano

I'm Milanese and proud of my city! Your comment is true, Milan has become an European Capital and a touristic place! Senza togliere nulla a Venezia/Roma/Firenze/[tutte le mete turistiche d'Italia] Milano è degna di essere chiamata meta turistica e città all'avanguardia in sotto quasi tutti gli ambiti!! :D

Traveling with Rick Steve's through the virus. Making a list and this is one of the top ones.
love love love florence, been there 8x, went to milan 18 months ago and loved it as much, as is como. Milan has NYC vibe w/o the attitude, cleaner and great metro, stayed outside city at 4 star hotel for 75E
Both Milan and Lake Como were great.
Milan was surprisingly fantastic and was a dark horse - good food, nice people, efficiently run, good metro. The buildings themselves were a bit older and less precisely kept (unless you were in the Quadrilateral area which looks amazing). I didn't feel unsafe at all. It was a welcome change to Paris, which felt unsafe and underwhelming.
Lake Como however was not as good as expected, but still pretty good. Managed to get to Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio and Villa del Balbianello in one day with some good planning. The scenery was fantastic, but it felt a bit touristy. Food was decent. Might be worth staying a few nights if you would like to relax. I agree with Rick, Varenna was the best town. Bellagio was ok but too touristy, Menaggio was too sleepy, and Villa del Balbianello was alright, but wasn't as good as expected.
In both places, note that the pollution and haze levels were quite high, because of the mountains trapping in the polluted air. So keep that in mind.
I was surprised by the sheer beauty of these places.
I live near Varenna and I am surprised every morning when I see the lake from my terrace. Visit Milano and Lake Como
Lake Como looks like it's stretching up to bring Heaven down to the water's edge.
It's a grand setting, romantic.
One of the most underrated and amazing cities in the world. To know Milano is to understand life.
These old skool story guides always show me what i need to see! I cant bare watching a modern vlogger or blogger walking around like someone gives a sgit what theyr eating!
Lake Como is a heavenly place on earth. I'm lovin' it.
No one does things better than the Italians. Such class in everything they do. Note how elegantly the people are dressed !!!
Just go out from italy and visit other countries of europe. And im sure that you will so many better things all over there in europe
Used to love watching Rick Steven's on the public channel. How different the world was back then. No smartphones. People just seem more relaxed.
I've seen people with their phones. In fact, one woman was riding her bike and talking on the phone.

Thanks Rick. I should be traveling all over the world and because of COVID, I’m afraid I never will. I am living my retirement through your videos.
Hello Dee Jay Bratsch
Lovely! In summer 2017, we stayed at a family-run Airbnb across the lake from Varenna in Menaggio. While there, we visited Varenna & nearby Bellagio (all gorgeous), along with excursions by high-speed train from Milano to Venezia, and by rental car to Recco, Camogli, St Margherita, & Portofino. Rick is right - Varenna is beautiful and peaceful. The best side trip on Lago di Como was taking a tour of Villa del Balbianello, arriving by charter boat. It's extraordinary, really just beyond belief. After this crazy COVID era passes, if you get a chance, visit the villa and others around the lake. The people and sights are wonderful!
I just came back from Bellagio and Varenna and it is better than described!
My husband & I were in Milan & Lake Como last May for a vacation & it was very enjoyable. The places were beautiful .
Vacations are always beautiful as you plan it ahead. Don't want to meet those around railway station
GREAT, FABULOUS MILAN & LAKE OF COMO,,
Rick's been a part of my family, for as long as I can remember. New trips never happened, without Rick's guides. ;)
Paintings give me goosebumps .. It makes me go back in time n get lost in imagination
Its beautiful, thank you for the tour Rick
Looking at these beautiful cities always gives me a peace of mind. As modern as it can be, it always manages to fascinate me by its ancient traces of the bygone past which can be found in the color theme, the pace of life, the old castles, etc.
I injoy the idea that I can hear the sweet music in the breeze; feel continuity, listening for inward drives, pointing at my goals! Appreciation is offered to all nature.
The best video on Lago di Como ever! Merci beaucoup Rick-さん!

Beverly hills of Milan? Milan makes Beverly Hills look like a red light district. Great episode, but you cant compare any american city with Milan's fashion. Its the best in the world. Thanks Rick Steves -- this was a very helpful episode!!
RichardRiddick78 oh lighten up. he wasn't literally comparing them, only stating that they had equivalent roles within their respective cities.
RichardRiddick78 there’s an element of that to Milan, but for the average person New York is a nicer place to live than “mailand”
Italy is beautiful, Its People are Beautiful, Italy will Recover, it will !!!

You Tube is the window of the world. I never thought I'd see places like Milan, nor did I have any inkling of what beautiful places in this world looks like. Thank you Rick Steves.
Would love to see Lake Como again, it was so beautiful & peaceful, I've never felt more relaxed in my life. And I would highly recommend the hotel I stayed at (The Hotel Villa Aurora) to anyone thinking of visiting Como, the hotel itself was lovely & homey, the food in their restraunt delicious & the family who ran the hotel couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming.

For me this video was a trip down memory lane because I was in Milan and Lake Como last May. To see the familiar monuments and the gob smacking beauty of Lake Como was such a fantastic experience. Added to that Steves' tidbits of information completed the virtual visit to this paradise on earth.
Italy is a dream !
I like your historical joy
It was during my honeymoon, in December 2001, that I first visited Italy, and Milan. Italy is a very particular country, where everybody - and I mean absolutely everybody, including street sweepers with their fashionable uniforms - is well dressed. It combines ridiculous labour customs (the staff of a bank was on strike, and so was the ATM) with imaginative solutions to practical problems, such as "how do I deal with a wardrobe at an exhibition that can hold 10 coats at the most". The Italians solved it, very elegantly, and very well dressed.
Milan is a sometimes strange place. There's some seriously dodgy architecture to be found, sometimes not very far from the beautiful grand buildings. And then there's the Duomo, which is unbelievable. I love Gothic architecture, especially on cathedrals such as the ones of Cologne, Paris and Florence, but the one in Milan is a giant fractal made of white marble.
Would I go back there? I don't know. The biggest disadvantage of Italy, if you could name it that, is that it's an incredibly beautiful country. There *is* a reason why it has the most Unesco World Heritage sites. There's so much to see, and I've seen so little of it. Milan has to compete with Rome, Florence, Venice, Pisa, Siena... the list is sheer endless.
I live in Turin....a city completely underrated. Come here next time! 😉
Pretty fascinating you were there just as i was born nearby in Como, in december 2001
@@gabrielboi3465 We went past the lake, when we took the train from Venice to Milan. As said, a beautiful country.
