i still don't understand how brian mitchell was so successful carrying the ball, it wasn't speed it wasn't power it wasn't agility in fact he looked quite awkward with the ball in his hands. perhaps that's why nobody could tackle him
Artie the Swolest Man in the World when i was a kid, he used to train with one of friends pops who was a player for the packers. I saw Brian Mitchell run sprints when I was hanging out. Brian Mitchell had the scariest look on his face while running those sprints. He might have not had the power or speed, but maybe it was sheer determination that made him so good.
The most infuriating season I remember was the 2000 season, where we beat both teams that would eventually play in the Super Bowl, we were 7-4 in week 12, ended up losing a string of close games (almost all divisional) because apparently it never occurred to Norv Turner to go find a decent field goal kicker. We ended up going for it on 4th and whatever inside the 30-yard lines because whoever the fuck was our kicker that year couldn't be counted on. Never liked Norv as a coach anyway, far too cautious, even timid half the time. With even a halfway decent kicker we could have gone 11-5, at least 10-6 and made the playoffs. There was no juggernaut that year, no St Louis or New England we couldn't have beat down the stretch.
Some very tight margins in the NFL that year. With a better QB, a couple of those narrow defeats could have gone the other way. Shuler and Frerotte weren’t great at all. Some great players in that team, though.
