Fantastic tutorial on mid summer garden maintenance, pruning and fertilizer application. Roses can be very intimidating but you did a great job with your close up shots for showing where to make the cuts on your shrubs. The gardens that you and Jerry have made together around your new patio are absolutely gorgeous. You should be proud of all that you have accomplished this growing season. 🥀

Your roses are so big, especially for first year. Mine are much smaller and then Japanese beetles found them when they tired of my apple tree. I will be checking out your Amazon store. Do you also use Espoma rose-tone? I haven't fertilized my roses this first year. Timing is everything.
A tip I read, Japanese beetles leave a hormone on the leaves that attracts more beetles so I've been snipping them off. I didn't do that on the apple tree because I would be removing most of them and it would look even more strange.
I'm feeling emboldened that I can now squish grubs when I see them. But since the mature beetles can fly miles I don't treat my lawn for grubs. I try to stay organic.

I tried Supertunia Vista Bubblegum for the first time this year. I had my doubts that any flower would grow as well as PW said this flower would. Well, just let me say that I was proven wrong, BIG TIME 👍🏼! I’ve cut it back twice and it needs it again! I planted two and they have taken over the flower bed. I love them and will definitely buy them again next year! Thank you for your guidance and helpful tips👍🏼😊.

Thank you . I finally know how much of the liquid fertilizer to use per plant. I have been confused even after watching many videos from multiple people. The products state how much space it will cover but not how much to use on a single plant.

I see what your doing here 🤣 👀🤣, Its been cooler here last few days and been tackling the same things, everyone always gasps when I do this but I always say come back in 2 weeks and it'll be better than ever, lol...always takes me to fall. If I don't they really look tired by then...much 💕
It's been so hot here in Minneapolis and I haven't kept up on watering my front yard beds. Last night (yes, at night) I used water-soluble fertilizer so got close up and saw two of my seven Supertunia Vista Bubblegum plants were nearly dead. Ach! I hope the fertilizer helps bring them back.
Jenny, you are so cute, I love the intro to your videos, not only the fantastic flowers but your cute self. The beds look so much better and can not wait to see them flush back. I am heading over to get some PW plant food. I am in Wy with a 4b zone but learn a lot from you and what you do at the nursery.

This just shows me what an immense amount of work gardening is if you want your garden to look great all the time! 🙃 I understand if you own a nursery, or are retired, but if you are just regular folk with a full time job, seems a bit intimidating…
That’s the beautiful thing about gardening. You do it to the level that your space & life allows. I can assure you that our gardens did NOT look like this when our babies were small! But they are now teenagers and I have more freedom in how I choose to spend my time. For me these gardens are not work (yes it takes time & a lot of sweat) but rather a source of pleasure & stress relief.

Just love watching your videos and seeing how beautiful the patio is looking. Just a little helpful hint on the roses. I have had a rose garden for several years. Witherspoon planted it, but we maintain it. Their website is full of helpful information. When cutting your roses, cut at an angle, also try and cut above a place that has five leaves. One more thing, I use sevin for Japanese beetles, I know I hate it, but that is the only thing I have found that works. I still have bees and butterflies on all my other flowers, so I think they just stay away from the roses the month of June when the beetles are out. Have a great day.

My rescue rose, bless her, has had rose sawflies and right as she was bouncing back she had a major infestation of Japanese beetles. So I think this is a must buy product for the Virginia gal

I love that you showed what you do to take care of David Austen roses. I live in Missouri, and my area is heavy clay but high alkaline. Can you give some advise for watering for those and Limelight hydrangeas? We have temps go from 100+ and super humid for weeks to 70 and still humid (80+). Usually not cooling at night in the summer, unless we hit 80 degrees for the day. We have a cross combo between your environment and Laura with Garden Answer, so we keep changing our garden habits with some success. But some not.
Right there with you. This weeks been a killer. Sun-Th 95-100. Just trying to keep alive.
Good morning creekside🌞! The days are changing though, no sun here yet 😆 I used the 3-1 systemic also for my roses this summer and it kept the Beatles away thank goodness!

Great information! I’m also in 7b and have and have a area in wall area. Learned from you my mistake was not putting the Rose and Flower treatment early enough and lost my Bubblegum petunias. I think it was what I call Rolly Polly bugs that eat the roots.

I had to trim back a euphorbia because I burnt it with pyrethrin. It bounced back immediately.

We bought a new home that has stunning hydrangeas among a plethora of other annuals. What do you do to get rid of the bugs when you cut to bring inside for a floral arrangement?? Eek…I have all these tiny bugs crawling around after I cut them and put in a vase. 😳
I'd give almost anything for something really effective at killing Japanese Beetles but not at the expense of killing honeybees. The comments on Amazon say that product you suggested does have ingredients that kill bees too. So I'll stick with my frequent neem oil and soap sprays.

Also, can the 3in1 be used in annual plants? Beetles have turn sweet potato vines very lacey.
Did you get rid of them yellow jackets yet ? They came into Asheboro NC late this year … they are on my hummingbird feeder’s … but I haven’t found a nest mowing yet … but I hate them little suckers ….. been stung many times even followed into my house before where I was running to the shower.lol have a blessed week sorry I got off of your topic… just checking on that ?

You sure can! Trim & fertilize & they will be so happy!
Absolutely every year I trim them back and fertilize and within a week or 2 you'll never know and they will be beautiful..

I noticed you applied the water soluble fertilizer to the crown of the plant. I’m assuming this is fine as opposed to applying it around the drip line? Also, the beetles nibbled on the rose leaves. You recommended a systemic for this but would the problem have been worse if not for the use of the systemic?
Applying the fertilizer the way I did is perfectly fine. These plants are tough so either way will work. And yes if I did not use the Rose Care the plants would basically be completely defoliated and diseased. The beetles are attracted to the smell of the flowers & they will eat both the blooms & the foliage for a 4-6 week period.

It’s only happened once, and even though he was a friendly black snake it certainly did startle me!
I am in Alabama and we have had heavy rain almost daily for a month.my limelights and strawberry sundae hydrangeas are flopped on the ground because of all the rain.i know pruning is done in late winter but should I prune them now since they are on the ground. They are so bad they will not recover.
Absolutely!!!! Go ahead and prune them back by 1/4-1/3 and they will do GREAT!!!
Will the Rose 3 in 1 harm honeybees?
All I can say is we have bees and they have no problem on our flowers

They were too big for the space and actually they were not blooming as well as they should be 😊
