Mike and Rich spitball some ideas for that newly announced Picard TV show. Mike has an idea to put Picard back on a Galaxy class ship again so he can relish in nostalgia and yell "I recognize that!" at his TV. Rich and Mike talk crew, mission, science mystery and not having a Star Trek series based on "action schlock" and terrible things that make us puke. - Zábava

CBS will never notice how brilliant this treatment is. BUT YOUR BRAIN WILL.
Let´s face it, there is a serious lack of talent in Hollywood these days. Film scripts are put together with spit and duct tape, the days of truly being awed at the end of a movie are long gone. And directors rely on pew pew, shiny lights, and snazzy effects to camouflage the fact that they don´t have either the skill or the patience to do it right.
And that lack of talent rubs on the actors as well. Even top box office stars find it hard to be motivated to deliver a proper acting performance once they see the quality of their lines, and the caliber of the scenes they are asked to perform. The vision of Luke Skywalker drinking alien tittie milk comes to mind, you could see Mark Hamill was truly disgusted at the scene.
Sorry folks, but Star Wars, Star Trek, Predator, Alien, and so many more cult franchises we grew up fascinated with are dead. And there is no talent in Hollywood anymore to bring them back...
Darth Mucus it’s because Hollywood is about making money. And risk doesn’t equal reward most of the time. So instead of taking a risk on a new IP, and potentially losing. They need to make big budget safe movies to make back a profit. It’s a sad money system. That’s why I like other nations film studios. Especially Bollywood and Nollywood. India is now making epics and on a grand scale. And Nollywood is about as pure as you can get. It’s people with shit cameras making movies about things that personally inspire them.
Hollywood is a Chinese money making scheme at this rate. Nigeria and India are making good cinema with compelling narratives and beautiful risky ideas.

Well, the important thing is that Mike has the respect of Trek actors.
@QBP II So did a lot of people until Disney shit the bed, lol.
Well, Mike and Rich are good and all, but I have no idea why people who used to work on the shows weren't tapped. Ronald D. Moore for example, wrote lots of episodes of TNG, DS9 and Voyager, and produced parts of all three series, then co-created the Battlestar Galactica reboot. The guy knows his Trek and is responsible for some of the best of it. He's also still alive and making TV shows.
Why on earth wasn't he put in charge of making new Trek?
@@MidlifeCrisisJoe because that's not what the general audience wants. And since GA equals safe money, you get dumb.
@@richter0157 Yeah I wish that were true, but as Mike and RLM pointed out ALL the way back in their TNG Movie Plinkett reviews, it's simply not the case that the "general audience doesn't want smarter Star Trek." They pointed out that the BEST selling Star Trek movie of all time until the end of the TNG movies was Star Trek 4: Save the Whales, which wasn't super action packed, was fairly light-hearted, and has an extremely esoteric plot about going back in time to abduct whales to bring them into the future to communicate with an alien probe.
This was juxtaposed against the "popular" (at the time) TNG films like First Contact or Nemesis, which were ugly, dumb, and violent. Star Trek 4 even did better than the more action packed and violent films in its own era, like Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country (and those, while darker and more violent than standard 60s Trek fare, were still at least competently intelligent about it).
On top of this, the Abrams films proved without a doubt that dumb action schlock has zero staying power with Trek. It suckered people in with the first film since I think a lot of people thought the idea of a general Trek reboot wasn't a bad idea at the time, but both sequels did TERRIBLY for their huge expense (only making any money due to foreign markets). People vote with their wallets and most of the voting on this franchise has been that people want neat sci-fi premises that aren't depressing and they can take or leave action scenes.
This isn't actually about what the general audiences actually want. It's about what the dumb-ass producers THINK what GA audiences want. And yet, with so many Trek alumni creatives still around and producing entertainment like Ron Moore or Ira Steven Behr - people who had a ton of experience producing Trek shows at the peak of the franchise in the 1990s - they still won't tap them. It's ludicrous because by this point, there's just a ton of statistical evidence in box office receipts and viewership ratings that the action schlock doesn't work.
I wish we could still blame Rick Berman for this.
Oh boy when this new Startrek show comes out, Jay gonna be dead inside for Months.
RLM should save time and record ten hours of Jay staring forlornly into the camera right now, for future use.
Please allow Mike full creative control over a Star Trek series, the world needs it
Rich Evans can guest star as an alien species or something
As himself
The whole species? Like asexual clones of Rich? Are they also fans of Star Trek? Like, they joined the Federation and read about what happened on the Enterprise D and geek out about it
No as space cop
Yes Rich Evans guest appearance as Space Cop! It needs to happen!
Odo goes back to his old job as non-aligned security/detective/cop for some reason, and is forced to team up with Space Cop. Picard frowns at both of them.
Oh god this is so upsetting given the crushing disappointment of knowing that the Picard show that just aired has basically ruined any chances of a competent, respectful Star Trek series with Patrick Stewart involved.
Edit: Also, the fact that one genuine Star Trek fan spending an evening typing up some ideas, and then spit-balling them with another Star Trek fan for under an hour in a CZcams video can come up with a premise that blows the plot of Star Trek: Picard, a TV show with a massive budget and months/years of time for an entire writing team to come up with ideas, out of the fucking water is pathetic.
Just goes to show that money isn't everything.
Indeed. Love for and deep familiarity with a story are often far better credentials for creating ideas for a follow up, than corporate greed, a passing knowledge of the original, a vast budget and careerist self importance.

Since Picard was basically entrusted with the memory/personality of Data embodied in the jumbled memory of B4 at the end of Nemesis, since that time we see that Picard has downloaded all of that into something like a 24th century USB as he continues to work on restoring Data's personality completely.
The *Galaxy's*, on board computer is fried and in order to run the ship's systems including priority ones like life support, Picard's only option is to plug Data into the ship basically making him the ship's OS. So instead of Majel Barrett's voice being the computer, you have Brent Spiner.

This is what happens when you have enough of a following to release a serious video about your fan fiction.
I wouldn't really call it fan fiction. This might just be because of the negative connotations of that term, but what Mike is doing here is more akin to a serious script idea in my opinion. Most fan fictions will include self-insert characters and have batshit insane plot points. Also, most of this is far more general, loose plot direction, not so much an actual script or story.
I still feel your comment, and you're technically right I guess, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, haha.
It's basically fanfiction. Fanfiction doesn't need to be hot garbage. It does need to be motivated primarily by one's fandom, which this is.

You know what'd be fun? The girl from the turbolift in the 'Disaster' episode was inspired by her experience and grows up to join Starfleet. She's the first officer on the ship, so when things go wrong, she becomes Picard's Number One. Heck, throw in Jono from 'Suddenly Human', too: he can be the Talarian ambassador. That'd be a neat way to show Picard's legacy.

I come back to this video so often. I really wish this were what Picard became.
"Or him sitting in paris sipping coffee..."
Alright here's my treatment. It's a sitcom. It takes place entirely on Earth, never goes anywhere. It's Picard and Riker, both retired, and both infirm in some way or another so they need the other's help. Look, it's just the Odd Couple but with Replicators.
Finally the Mike Stoklasa fanfic program I've been waiting for!
Watching this after Picard S2 is even more painful. Two hack-frauds, spitballing ideas for 25 minutes, came up with a better series than an entire legion of Hollywood's "best" writers.
What new horrors await me in the shadowy currents of the future?
Though quaking with fear, I tread forward.
I've no other choice.
This could have been the first... pre:View. I would rather watch more of these than the actual Picard. (More please? I like the idea of fun shows.)
I think eventually RLM will become just conversations like this. And I'll be totally okay with it.
I figure this is how most people become creators/filmmakers. Just watching and discussing movies extensively, and then talking and thinking about what they'd like to see, and then just try to make it happen
Y'all should re:view more of your fanfics. I can just imagine what Rich has.
Search of the "Ju-see Shakmit"
I could settle for listening to the unauthorized Rich Evans audiobiography
CZcams doesn't allow such content.
I don't think it would be legal to show that
Eh, it'd just be the exact same as the old scripts just every character now has crippling diabetes.
It's like kids excitedly speculating what is in their Christmas present...only to find out it's their mother's head.
Just... How? How do Mike and Rich so perfectly pitch the Star Trek that people wanted to see in less than 30 minutes?
Gah what a wasted opportunity STP turned out to be
Barkley's son is the over-confident captain at the start of the series.
And his crotchety old dad is coming along (or ends up on the ship). This way they can have another type of family conflict, and a comparison between the two characters.
@@elimgarak1617 I don't see Commander Barkley becoming a crotchety old man. While time and experience might mitigate his self-doubt, he would remain introverted and not likely to speak out of turn, even to his own son.
Broccoli is the best.
@@mr.beepers2119 I think your autocorrect ducked that up.
It’d be neat if his son is over-confident because he’s terrified of being too much like his father: unsure, awkward, bumbling, etc. But through out the show, his over-confidence gets either himself or the crew into trouble, casting him in self-doubt and fear, bit at the same time, helping him to understand his father better. Over the course of the show, he learns to be more thoughtful and patient, this combining his strengths with that of his father’s. Just a thought. :)
I dont think Ive ever been this happy to see 25 minute video about a man explaining his star trek fan fiction.
It looks like "new Trek" has literally sucked the life out of Patrick Stewart. Comparing him now to just four years ago he looks like he aged a decade or so. He can barely talk or walk now, back in these 2018 clips he still looked full of life.
Cocaine is a helluva drug.
Or he just got old. It happens sometimes.
Man, Patrick gave all those speeches and still doesn’t know who Picard is. Wild
And it turns out all to be Wesley Crushers fault from back when he was trying to be one of those "Travelers"...
End season 1 with a solid "Shut up, past-Wesley"
I've never seen a single episode of any series of Star Trek, but watching RLM has given me enough second-hand knowledge that I can talk about it with my Trekkie friend.
It's so sad watching this four years later.
I can't believe that they will now develope a Star Trek show called "Legacy", literally about a young crew on the Enterprise-G, supported by the old cast of TNG, DS9 and Voyager. And it probably won't suck!!!! Wild times.
This show wont be made
Kurtzman wants to make a Starfleet Academy show set in the 31st century instead because he sucks and is stupid. There is no chance such a show will be good or even mediocre.
I'm not saying Mike needs to sue, but I know a lawyer.
😂😂😂😂😂
