      Hurrem ISNT the strongest in the show, and she ISNT in the strongest in history also. Her only achievement is marrying a sultan, but without him she didn't have any power + the army and ottoman people didn't like her
      + she didn't play any role in the ottoman Empire/society
      Here are the strongest ones according to historians and thier achievements :
      1 kosem : haseki sultan (favorite of the sultan) , legal of wife of the sultan (ahmed) , valide sultan 3 times (for 2 of her sons and her grandson) ,
      Royal regent for 30 years, she literally ruled the empire for 30+ years, she was loved and supported by both the people and the army and the government (divan) because she was able to depose 4 sultans (osman, mustafa, murad, ibrahim)
      The wealthiest Sultana because she OWNED the ottoman economy and bank and foreign trade, most charitable sultana , she was the first and the last Buyuk valide sultan (grandmother of the sultan) because she was his Regent despite his mother turhan being alive. Turhan was given title "valide segir" (small valide) while kosem got "valide kebir" (great/big mother sultan) for about 4 to 5 years
      2 turhan : longest valide sultan for 34 years, was loved by her son and the ottoman divan (government) , royal regent for 8 years (ruled the empire) , she was the only women to have EQUAL power to a living sultan LEGALLY (her son Mehmet) , most merciful sultana
      3 Nurbanu : legal wife of the sultan (selim) , haseki sultan (favorite) , the FIRST valide sultan in ottoman history, she was the first woman to make title "valide sultan" a political title that have authority + she was the first to move to the topkapi Palace (centre of power of the empire close to the government and the capital) where she observed more power , she was also the first co-regent to her husband and son and according to ottoman and venetian historians, nurbanu sultan is the founder of the sultanate of women because she was the first to actually have influence and authority by becoming valide
      4 safiye : haseki, valide sultan, one of the wealthiest, one of the most lived (through the reign of 8 sultans from Suleiman to osman/murad) she had great influence through her son
      5 halime/handan : both were haseki sultan and valide sultan and both were co-regents and regents to thier sons for 2 years (handan) and 2 to 4 years (halime)
      6 rabia sultan : she came after turhan and was extremely powerful as valide and co-regent but she isn't included in the sultanate of women
      6 mihrimah : one most powerful imperial princess, one of the richest, daughter of Suleiman the magnificent
      She ruled the harem as "sadin" alongside nurbanu during the reign of her brother selim until murad ascended where she was sent to the old palace
      7 hurrem : haseki sultan (favorite) , legal wife of the sultan (Suleiman)
      And that's it, she didn't have titles, she didn't change history, she didn't have influence or authority, she didn't achieve anything significant,sye didn't contribute to the ottoman empire and she wasn't liked by the ottoman people, or the government (divan) or the ottoman Royal family,not even the army .
      Only Suleiman loved her and that was it, she was pretty much a housewife, the only "remembered thing she did was writing letters to the king of Poland IN THE NAME OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE (which means Suleiman already saw those letters + all the other sultanas that came after her wrote to other foreign monarch, safiye wrote to Elizabeth the 1st of England, nurbanu wrote to Catharine de medici of France , kosem wrote to almost every neighbor of the ottoman Empire and so on...) , oh and Suleiman also took her advice, SOMETIMES..

    For everyone asking for Hurrem and Mirhimah, they were not Valide Sultan. Hurrem died before seeing her son on the throne and Mirhimah was not Valide Sultan.
    Nurbanu was the first woman to hold both Haseki and Valide title before her son was even on the throne. It was Selim who gave her the Valide title in order to proclaim Murad as the crown prince.
    When Selim ascended the throne Nurbanu became the head of his Harem and gather a group of powerful people at her service: Gazanfer Agha The chef of white eunuch, Canfeda once her stewardess at Manissa(Kâhyâ), Radiye (Kalfa) who was her forewoman, as well as Esther her lady-in-waiting (Kira) who was a Jewish woman, originated from spain and late wife of the Highly, respected Elijah Handali and she was responsible of Nurbanu's transactions with the exterior world.
    In Cavilli's relazione it is mentioned that Nurbanu was flaunting in of her twin titles in one breath, "Wife of the Signor" Haseki Sultan and "Mother of Sulta Murath" Valide.
    The Venitian ambassador further added after Nurbanu's death that she literally surpassed Suleiman's wife Hurrem by assuming the title of Valide Sultan before her son ascended the throne.

      @theprincesssara6219 Před rokem +8

      That's not true, nurbanu wasn't the valide sultan in selim's era it was mehrimah , nurbanu wasn't that strong during the reign of Sultan Selim especially in front of a very rich Mihrimah who is even richer than the ottoman empire itself, no matter how powerful people she had by her side, it was certainly not as strong as Mihrimah.

      @@theprincesssara6219 I will never be able to understand some people urge to discredit someone's statements. It is not that smart to come over someone's comments just to say they are lying while just coming with a theory. I didn't say she was Valide Sultan during her Husband's reign. Just like Hurrem, Nurbanu was the head of Selim's harem.
      Please, procure yourself the book of Pinar Kayaalp about Nurbanu and her politics in the 16th century, you will understand what I am saying.
      And how come Mirhimah was so much powerful during her brother's reign while not having any dignitary in the Divan? The most powerful men at that moment were at Nurbanu's service. Of course, Mirhimah was extremely wealthy but wealth wasn't enough to be powerful back then. I never denied the amount of power she got during her father's reign. But it literally changed during Selim's reign. Selim was a reformer like his father and gave the title of Valide Sultan to Nurbanu even before Murad ascended the throne. It was a political move to announce Murad as the crown Prince. I don't think Nurbanu would dare referring herself as such if she didn't have the Sultan's approval. According to Pinar Kayaalp, this transformation regarding of Nurbanu's twin titles is evidenced in an entry dated 23 Ramadan 973 (1570) involving the procurement of marble to be used in the construction of Nurbanu's pious architectural project. In this same document Nurbanu refers to herself exclusively "Mother of my son, the estimable son Murad" while it was Selim who was ruling. Furthermore, Selim acting on behalf of Valide Sultan Nurbanu, orders qadis of sabanci and iznikmid to collect without delay all the marble from fields, meadows and dilapidated buildings of their bailiwicks, fully compensating eligible owners, while refraining from harming any occupied residences......

      @@signora1102 Hi. Can you please elaborate more on Prof.Pinar's explanation about why Nurbanu Sultan was a Queen Mother while her husband was alive? (Valide means mother so maybe that's what she basically meant and not queen mother-valide sultan). I don't posses the book so I'd like to see her refrences about her claims. It's hard to believe she was Queen Mother while her husband was still alive. Maybe figuratively but definitely not formally or officially.
      I don't agree with your statement about Imperial Princess Mihrimah being only wealthy. She was the greatest advisor to her father Süleyman after the death of her mother Hürrem Sultan and was very much involved in politics. When Selim II ascend the throne, eventho Mihrimah wasn't a Queen Mother officially she had a say in every matter. Nurbanu didn't have much power yet as there was a conflict between her and Mihrimah.
      I did some research and found the doctorate thesis of Prof.Pinar and i quote:
      “It is not surprising that during Selim’s early reign the new Haseki was out-performed by such an eminent power broker as her sister-in-law Mihrimah. Nurbanu decided not to fight against Mihrimah, whose prestige was too much even for her, and instead started working on a network of allies who could have proved to be useful once Murad was on the throne.
      It is believed that Mihrimah presented to Murad III the future Queen Safiye who would be Nurabanu's s greatest rival. Nurbanu truly rose to power with her son Murad III ascending the throne.

      No hablo español, así que traduje esto usando el traductor de Google. Espero que tenga sentido en español.
      Así que básicamente :
      - toda mujer que dé a luz a un hijo del sultán se convierte en sultana.
      - si una sultana da a luz a varios hijos del sultán, se convierte en "haseki sultan", que significa (el favorito del sultán)
      - cuando un sultán fallece, su hijo se convierte en el nuevo sultán y su madre se convierte en "valide sultán", que significa (madre del sultán), sin embargo, este título fue creado por nurbanu Sultan, ella lo convirtió en una posición oficial de poder y política. título, por lo que cualquier sultán válido tenía autoridad sobre el palacio y el estado de su hijo le permitía
      - si el sultán es demasiado joven para gobernar, su madre gobierna en su lugar como regente, sin embargo, esto era poco común porque el "diván" (parlamento) gobierna en los primeros días del imperio otomano, hasta el reinado de handan cuando ella se convirtió en regente pero por solo 2 años, kosem sultana es la sultana más poderosa porque fue regente durante 30 años de 2 de sus hijos y 1 de sus nietos.
      Otros títulos también significan: valide muazzama que significa la madre magnífica, este era el título de kosem sultan, ella también tenía otros 14 títulos como "valide kebir" (la gran madre), valide buyuk sultan (gran madre sultana), etc. Turhan El sultán tenía el título de "valide segir" (pequeña madre sultán) porque su hijo era el sultán pero tenía 6 años, por lo que Turhan y Kosem gobernaron juntos, pero Kosem tenía un estatus y autoridad más altos.
      Espero que esto haya ayudado❤

    Mahfiruze Sultan should be there. She was Valide Sultan for 2 years. Yes most people will tell you she died before Osman ascended the throne or was exile or there is not enough information about her. But it is not true. She did saw her son's reign for 2 years and died of diseases.
    If you want the sources just ask me and no need to be violent and disrespectful.

    • @lol4lol993
      @lol4lol993 Před rokem +1

      Nope, Mahfiruze was never a sultan,please. According to historian Leslie P. Peirce and many others "She may have been alive when her son Osman ascended the throne but she wasn't living in the palace, nor did she act as a valide,
      as privy purse registers listed no valide sultan during Osman's reign".

    • @signora1102

      @@lol4lol993 Pierce made many mistakes in her book. She claimed that Mahfiruze Sultan was either sent to the old palace or died before Osman could ascend the throne which is false. Mahfiruze was Valide Sultan from 1618 to 1620 and later her sister Sahinçan Hatun looked after Osman and was respected and his Harem as his Valide Sultan.
      Because I will be listing Which ambassadors and historians supports the claim (the fact) that she was not only a powerful Haseki but a Valide Sultan as well.

    • @signora1102
      @signora1102 Před rokem +3

      @@lol4lol993 Do not worry about me coming with my sources. To write an instructive paragraph it takes time and I don't want to mess up a country's history.
      Now let's begin. It is true that the well respected historian Pierce stated that it is not very clear what truly happened to Mahfiruze Sultan. She was either sent to the old palace after a dispute with Kosem and died before her son ascended the throne. But those claims are erroneous.
      Let me start with the first claim that she was sent to the old palace which is most likely false because according to the historian Dimitri Kandemir it was Ahmet fourth wife, his Haseki of Georgian origin and her name was Shahzaman and she came from the Cholokashvili Dynasty, who was sent to the old palace. That incident occurred in 1612. That Haseki was sent to the old palace with her daughter. It is true that at that moment Mahfiruze felt out of favor but she managed to stay in the palace and later on, according to the French ambassador Christofo Vallier, Mahfiruze Sultan gave birth to Prince Huseyn and this birth was much welcomed by Ahmet. He was so happy that he made her family come to the capital and celebrate (She was a Circassian princess and if you want to know the dispute that happened between her and Ahmet because of her support for Mehmet Giray around 1608 tell me.) Sehzade Huseyn birth was welcomed by great festive just like Sehzade Osman. The historian Agafangel Krimski also supports this.
      The second of her claim is that she died before she son ascended the throne, is also false. According to the Venitian ambassador Giorgio Giustinian, in 1620 after the Valide Sultan's death, the Circassian princess, it was to his nanny that Osman gave such position. He continued by saying that it is not surprising at all since since the nanny, is the sister of the deceased Valide Sultan and wife of Abaza Mehmet pasha. That woman's name is Sahinçan Hatun and is the mother of Hasan Agha.
      The historian Joseph Matuz also supports this, and in his report he said: "After the death of Valide Sultan, Daye Hatun became the head of the Palace and with the permission of Osman II, she was given a salary of 3000 Asper".
      Furthermore, the historian Joseph Von Hammer-Purgstall supports the claim of her death in 1620 and even brought up the rumors about Kosem poisoning Mahfiruze Sultan. He further gave the reason of her death and the circumstances as well.
      Other historian and ambassadors support those claims as well and most were contemporary historians and ambassadors who lived during that era.
