I’m Singaporean, we adopted the Israeli National Service system in 1968 - this means that every Reservist unit has ten years of reservist commitment, with soldiers who have trained together every year for a decade (up to 40 days a year). So it’s the Reservist who are the frontline troops in any conflict, not the 19 year old with 9 months of training.
I’ve been activated for an exercise, in the field within 12 hours, exercise for 2 days, back in the office the day after.
Regardless of the politics and morals - must've been a crazy scenario to be *physically* involved in

I worked for an Israeli company and lived there in 3 month blocks. You're spot on about the pilots and yes they will be at work the next day. Ground pounders reserve duties are more like ours, you do a certain amount of drills and a few times a year you're sent to one of the boarders for a few weeks.
And the one thing that is unlike anywhere else is the fact all the shit goes down an hour drive away at most.
Back in my flightsim days, on the forums there used to be a space at the bottom of the message block for a motto of sorts. My motto was (and is still very true): "The best two pilots in the world are: The naval aviator, because they put it on and off a postage stamp every day, and the pilots of the Israeli Air Force, because they simply MUST be."

Incognito is supposed to not store browser data locally, but the server side is another thing, so it's mostly for guests on your own computer.
The browser still sends all of your data tot he server. It's like deleting your cache and browser history after.

Websites get more and more sophisticated sniffing out you using an adblocker and blocking all access if you have one.
Ads make them money and it's either ads or put everything behind a paywall so I kinda get it but it's getting a bit ridiculous.

amount of stuff shot down aside the organization, communication, and traffic control was really amazing stuff to a non military guy like myself but to hear these two experienced operators talk about it makes it all the more amazing

My Dad flew F-4’s in Vietnam, he told me there would never be large scale air battles like in WWII again.
He was wrong….
I mean he missed the Yom Kipur War, the one which resulted in NATO ramping up fighter production like crazy. The amount of jets being attritioned in that short conflict convinced the USA that they need at least 3-4 times as many fighters if they ever hope to last durig the Europe theater.

In DCS, I get overwhelemed with like 10 contacts. I cant imagine 300+. Not to mention, finding missiles on radar, again, in DCS, and intercepting is damn tough business compared to intercepting aircraft.
How many countries can you do a joint operation like this before language becomes an issue?

In Israel reservists are huge part of air-force. They can normally fly 747 and all the time do missions in IAF... They are significant part of the force. Both air and ground crews.
sounds like the f-35 was born for a mission like this. correct me if im wrong, with his battlefield wide picture with all the censors and data transfer between one platform, to another, it must have been the star of the show...
And in Russia it's not safe to fly over your own country with no enemy targets.
One more thing, IAF is very custom in flying in very crowed air-space. Like think 1/3 of IAF over Lebanon in 2006
That picture with the Python on the F-15’s outer rail and a Sidewinder on the inner… why for, how come? It seems kind of strange to have two different types of IRM on the plane.
Python-5 for near BVR engagements. AIM-9X for up extreme short ranges. Also the Python has both lock-on before launch (LOBL) and lock-on after launch (LOAL) modes of operation. The 9X is limited to LOBL. That loadout gives the fighter more flexibility.
Basic logic of weapons load outs is beyond the scope of CZcams comments. Please take your knowledge and rational thoughts and publish them elsewhere.
@@SternLX Not exactly. 1st it wasn't AIM-9X, likely 9L (look at wings side) and I assume it us purely cost optimization. Python-5 is highly maneuverable missile and gets same performance as 9X (or actually better). But if you have 9L and it does the job - it is better to use 9L because it is older and cheaper.
You can find images of F-15/C/D with Python 3 and Python-4/5 - cost efficient measure.
F-15s and F-16s in 1995/1999 over Bosnia fired Sidewinders and AMRAAMs straight past F-117s, and apparently came dangerously close to a collision with the F-117s
I remember that episode of Dogfights. One of the F-15 pilots didn't realize how close he was to hitting one of the F-117s until the next day.
Are there aces in a day and double aces? Do drones count?
Intercepting drones is the same as missiles. They don't count. Although I bet that F-22 pilot painted that darn balloon kill mark as a badge of (ironic) pride.
i don't think the IAF count drones (or missiles), but don't quote me on that. they also exclude drones with pilots (at least for now)

@mover would they sortie into the intercept box in waves, were x many flights would go in fire all weapons and then get clear for another wave to roll in? with multiple intercept boxes at different ranges..

The F-15 is a 52 year old air frame.
Which means the SU-57, which can decisively beat the F-15 in a 1v1, no advantage fight. Means Russia is still 40 years behind.
@@jj4791 Hard to define years but the very least their electronics and composites are behind the West which makes even relatively old technologies as look down/shoot down being a rare element within their air force. They began mass producing guidance kits for their gravity bombs just during the Russo-Ukraine War. They faced also many setbacks on aircraft development which meant they basically failed to create a truly new airframe in decades as each project got cancelled before completition. Of course when you realize their economy is weaker than Italy's and they are barely in the top 10 GDP wise while USA's economy dwarfs the rest of the top 25 combined then it becomes clear where the main issue lies. Even with the de facto war economy Russia is pumping a bit over tenth the money into their military compared to the USA's "peace" budget.
All that money...to take out a relativley cheap drone. F-15, maintenance, missiles, and all the support staff...crazy.
It's not about the drone it's about protecting life.

In a 1v1 against an F-15, I'll take an F-16.
In a 1v1 against an F-22, I'll take a Pitts Special S-1S.

Just seemed to me easy, since all is so fast in combat aviation.
Fast vs very slow is extremely difficult.
It is certainly something you'd leave and experienced pilot if you want to do a gun pass. With Fox 2 it still needs a lot of things to align and I doubt they allocated Fox 1s against cheap drones (although Pythons may have). So it needs finding the target, lock and then launching the missile at the right time while you got seconds. Multiple passes are likely provided for but maneuvering while other aircraft and friendly interceptor missiles are in the vicinity would add a fair bit of complications.
I suppose Israels Iron Dome system did most of the work, and fighter jets carefully helped in the outskirts.
The other way around. Virtually all drones shut down outside Israeli air space. Iron dome, Patriot and others was last resort if Arrow, David Sling or fighter would fail.
You guys made a good point. We need more cross training with our allies. To DARPA, A real time universal translator would be nice. We could always make English the default language of all NATO forces. That language barrier is gonna really bite us.
English is the default language. It's also ICAO standard.
@CWLemoine Thank God. I just see the trouble the Ukrainian piolets are having with American gear because of the language barrier. I'm very glad combined arms with allied non English speaking nations is done in a universal language.
@@apocraphontripp4728its just because they're not NATO and are used to fly soviet planes (everything is in russian). but it is standard even for NATO-adjacent countries to speak english (even non-pilots). over here in brazil (neither NATO or "preferencial NATO ally) you only get into the cadet school if you pass the english proficiency test (been like this for decades). by the end of the training you'll probably fluent bc the armed forces does training with the US all the time (the navy been doing one just this week with one of your aircraft carriers and our drone and heli carrier)

Even after a meteoric rise Israel's GDP is akin to a mid sized country. They do invest a lot in military but they had been always relying on conscripts and reservists. They don't really have the kind of money to pay for him to be employed like this full time. Similarly the majority of the IDF's strength is in reservists.
Israel's economy experienced a meteoric rise since 2005 or so. Their GDP grew by almost 4 times. Still, it only pushed them from a tiny economy of an overall poor country to something medium sized with a growing IT & manufacturing sector. Most European countries outside the Balkans have similar and usually greater economic performance compared to Israel. Their achievement at wealth are somewhat miraculous but their reputation has been about their morale and pluckiness rather than them being rich enough to afford various wonders at their disposal.
it seems like you're a bit resented, but despite your jokes the "reservists" have more kills in the F-15s than any other country. ANY. And usually, the air force have success even against overwhelming numbers (something the US never did), like in many wars.

Sounds like target practice to me. The missiles/drones don’t shoot back so low risk if they just don’t crash into each other.

It's a lot more stressful than target practice. Especially not from Israeli perspective. Any missile failed to be shot down may kill one of your family members or relatives you know. It may not be another Yom Kipur War but you just watched an entire video describing the complexities with such operations and you comment... this?
Even by the reservist's admission this has been his most stressful operations he ever practiced in. Less than danger from the enemy munitions which were aimed at land they had to worry about their own allies or just the sheer pressure of them failing an interception. Aerial combat is very different from fighting on the ground.
I've been waiting on your analysis on this. I mean, a lot of people try to make this out as "not a big deal," but it truly is.
The next question is how did they have enough munitions? Missiles? 20mm rounds? It's crazy.
I am amazed by two things
1. Iff was really doing it's job while sam was engaged
2.jets were not downing each other while downing every drones/missiles

I think iaf(Indian air force) can learn a lot from iaf.
india and israel do have a bunch of defense technology agreements (along with other agreements), specially in the last decade or so. they even developed a SAM together (the barak series). a joint training exercise wouldn't be so out of the blue

People in America were still stuck in Vietnam mode when it came to any kind of reservist. A lady I knew my whole life never had a good word to say about National Guard, Reservist. I was Army National Guard. She had no respect for what I did. Hurt me bad.
What makes you think people are stuck in 'Vietnam' mode? What about all the other wars and bombing campaigns that were carried out that had absolutely nothing to do with the defense of the country?

The US military is the enforcement arm of the UN. Any time a war crime or large scale human rights violation happens, and the offender refuses to comply, they send in the bombers.
@wanderlust0120 meaning that those who joined part time during the Vietnam War, only did so to keep from going to Vietnam, since it took until the 1990's before, even our government called it a war. The lady I was talking about thought that about me during Dezert Storm, where I had to correct her and let her know that many of those troops were National Guard, and Reserve Units over there. That's what I meant, maybe I just confused you, misspoke, or whatever, that's what I call it. Had 2 uncles who served in Vietnam, both have passed away due to the effects of agents orange, white, or purple, or any combination of the three. Please accept my apologies for confusing you.
