I purchased my parts from www.geninterlock.com - Jak na to + styl
You need to change your wires to 6 gauge if you want to use the 50 amp breaker. Number 8 is rated for 40 amps and number 6 is rated for 55 amps. Currently you will burn up your wire before you trip your breaker.
Great video! Keep in mind, that genny puts out a high THD. Be careful powering sensitive electronics, which is just about everything today. The Westinghouse WGEN115000TFC has a bit more power output, is TriFuel and the most important feature is a THD less than 5%.
Every house I have owned I have done this. Great job!
dude!! killer. Thanks for this video. I'm so sick of our power outages over here been looking for an affordable solution!
You are very inspiring and this is the kind of life I’m starting to build
Thank you!
Great video! Love what you did with putting the channel name above the work bench btw
Thank you!
well edited!
Thank you!
Considering that some high current loads could be active at the time of disconnect, I would flip the generator input breaker at the panel first instead of at the generator. Why? Because opening a circuit with high current flow will cause an arc and the breaker in the panel is more durable than the ones they installed in the generator. It is also easier to replace on failure.
Thank you for the info!
Nice view @ 12:00
Very informative. Straightforward, clear and very easy to understand. Really appreciate the helpful information. I'll use this to ask my electrician about a propane-based whole-house solution for my house and barn. Again, very helpful and clear. Much appreciated from the Virginia Piedmont.
Thank you!
Any info on how long a tank of propane will last on continuous run and what the decible level is of the generator?
What 50amp cable did you purchase?
Pretty sweet setup! One question though, why do you have your panel outside the house and not in the shop? Worst case situation: Someone could roll up and shut the entire house down from outside.
Thank you! I have that panel outside, a 200a sub panel in the shop, and a 125a sub panel in the living area. Most houses have a main disconnect at the service panel outside like mine. It’s pretty crazy but yes, a lot of people could have their entire house shut down from the outside!
Beautiful home and great idea. I did the same thing on my house a couple years ago. Is there a reason you used 8 GA versus 6 GA? 8 GA is rated for 40 amps whereas 6 GA is 55A. Typically use 6 GA wire for 50A breakers. By code around here you’d have to swap out the 50A breaker for a 40 since the wire couldn’t handle the 50A. Just wanted to make sure you knew that. Cheers!
Thank you! Wire size depends on a few factors, if you are using a romex or cable you would size off the 60 degree chart but because I’m using THHN wiring it’s rated for the 75 or 90 degree chart. 75 degree chart for #8 is rated for 50a and 90 degree chart is rated for 55a. But that’s why the premade cable had to be #6 wiring. because the 60 degree chart. Hope that makes sense!
How does one know if power from the main grid is back?
I’m pretty sure the meter readout would only be on if the power was on. So if that readout was visible the power should be back on.
I'm new here and I don't see a link to "the web site" for a list of parts.
Sorry I forgot to add it to the description. I got all of my parts from www.geninterlock.com
I’m in ahh of the landscape, not a neighbor in sight
What is the winding made of?
Remember to buy spark plugs for your generator.😅
hows my boy Jet a doing?
Unfortunately Jet passed away last year.. But you can see our dogs Mesa and Roxi in this video!
I sent you an email about an emergency hand pump I own a company that build easy to use and install emergency hand pumps for wells
Skipping through parts on the video. No sub. Show the entire process
how is the thd on this? id be worried about powering tvs and shit on something with higher than 5% thd
