Loved the timelapses! So funny to hear you struggle in a chipmunk voice lol!
It is kind of funny. It also covers up when I start cursing because the tub wont go in.
Hey bro, I'm new to You're channel. I love what You do. I learn something new every time I watch You on Facebook. Anyway, I've been a Plumber for 10 years, shark bites are completely safe to use behind walls, I even put them on boilers and hat water heaters if I have to. I don't recommend it, but, in a pinch, they are worth every penny and You will never have to worry about it leaking. Keep up the great work and keep pumping out those videos, I love it. Thank you so much for starting this You tube Channel.
about time we get another vid lol. thanks youre good
Thanks. Part 2 will be out in about a week.
The Handyman A WEEK? lol sounds good
Its looking good man! Coming along nicely!
@The Handyman when you install the fiberglass backer board is it necessary to waterproof it with redguard? if not, why not and if so why?
Its already water proof. I usually use mesh tape on the seams and redguard them. I didn't on this one.
I Think I noticed the backer board didn't go all the way up. is that because it's safely above the water line? did the remaining tile attach to drywall? not not picking just trying to learn. thanks! great work btw
Yes remaining tile attached to drywall. Its not in a wet area that high up.
Very knowledgeable. Thank you.
New subscriber, wish I had a reliable handyman such as yourself. I have a guy but doesn't have same range as you but he can do a lot. I have a similar bathroom with a old heavy cast iron bath tub. I checked under the house and where the tub is I don't have a floor, I assume its anchored into the wall somehow. How would you go about doing that? I assume removing the old one and laying new floor? Other then that it would be a PIECE OF CAKE.
Hey man, another good video. Some questions around the tiling (I've only tiled once so I'm still learning): Why do you choose to back butter the tiles instead of doing a full section? And I noticed there were no spacers on the decorative strips, is that the way you're supposed to lay those pieces?
Back buttering the wall tiles make it much cleaner. Its a huge mess troweling it on the wall. The decorative tiles come on a sheet there is a small spacing between them. There is also a small space between the decorative tile and the square tiles. Hope this answers your question.
Thanks, yeah that makes sense. Good to know
Just wondering how you cut the accent tile? I have mosaic glass tile I want to put into a small bathroom. Tfs :-)
I use a wet saw with a diamond blade on it.
What kind of backer board is that? I noticed you using it while tiling floors too.
What kind of sander is that for the copper? That would come in handy for me everyday to use
I just finished replacing my tub and surround. Thank you for showing just how much of a pain in the butt it is to make fit!
They can be difficult. Thanks for leaving a comment on my video.
I'm remodeling an apartment and want to do exactly like you did in this video. The question I have is how you connect the drain pipe from the tub to the sewage line. I saw you dropped the bath tub in place that was it. There was nothing to connect? All you had to do just to line up the pipe? The connection was not sealed?
I did all my connections in the crawl space under the bathroom. There is a P trap and black abs pipe that goes to the main line. The tube drain kit will connect to a 90 that will then go into the P trap then go to the main. If you are replacing an existing tub the plumbing should already be in place. If there is no basement or crawlspace you can do the connections from inside the wall behind the tub. Hope that helped a little.
I feel like this is one of those things where you have to love the job. For me personally as someone that's not a handyman I would have given up after 5 minutes with the tub and I doubt I would have even gotten that far.
Just watching you do this stuff makes me tired.
What type of board is the one he uses for the shower wall? Is it waterproof ?
I know this video is a little old and forgive me, totally new to home renovations....does one need to shut the water off when tearing out the walls? Great video and thanks for the inspiration to even attempt this. Haha.
+M Ro have to shut the water off to remove and replace the shower mixer valve
Handy Man; Dont set the place on fire when soldering near wood. You can buy protective cloth to block the heat and flame.
those burn marks are from the original install. I might need to get one of those fire blankets. Thanks for the tip.
yw. those heat protecters work well.
2:29 you set it on fire
The drain connected to the bathtub just went between the drain pipe?
Doesn't not having the backer board above the tile border make it not flush with the rest of the shower wall tile?
it was all 1/2 inch thick. Makes and even transition.
He probably dropped 100 f bombs a second behind that fast forward chipmunk voice
How did you get the drain assembly tightened to the ABS pipe below the tub, it appears you just let them fall in place with each other and left it loose.
from the crawlspace under the floor. I show it in one of the videos.
so what did you put on the side of the tub? did you put the sheet in there as well because that part wasnt shown.
Its called diamond board. Its a water proof backer that is 1/2 thick made by Certain Teed
but since the tubs in the way i figured it would have been hard to nail it or at least to put it first before setting up the tub. I'm really new to this and i appreciate your videos and your time.
its just wood framing under the tub. the backing only goes above the tube rails.
thank you
Do the corners have to be waterproofed as well? I haven't seen this product around.
what did you use to seal the seams of the backer board before tiling over it?

😨
Hey bud great work can u tell me your labor charge for this?
Its been a while. The entire condo so they got bulk pricing, (bathroom, full kitchen remodel, all new baseboard, new light fixtrues...) My labor for this portion was around $3500
The Handyman pretty cheap for a kitchen remodel too.
@@dalkhal that was labor for bath only
where do you buy your backer board from
Lowes
Why no moisture barrier over the cement board? This may cause mold down the road.
This is Diamondbback Board made by Certainteed No other moisture barrier is needed.
The Handyman I see, they don't seem to sell that around here.
Is that hardy board in the shower?
Its certainteed diamond board. Its easier to work with. Its a wet area tile backer.
Amazing that the bathtub wasn't covered.
What is the reason for flaming the pipes?
sweating the copper joints together.
What size is the tub?
standard 60 inch tube. The customer supplied the tile.
Do you need a license for this kind of work????
Im keeping the old toilet I hate double flushing
what is the size of that bathtub?
Bathtub is 60 inches long by about 30 inches wide.
nooooooo not the $99 glacier bay vanity lol
what is on the tripod?
gopro hero 4 silver
The Handyman ohh I thought it was a measuring tool.
The Handyman thanks for the quick reply. Love watching your videos before bed. I wake up all inspired
Ohhhh yeah that tri pod. Its a laser beam for laying out the first row of tile.
The Handyman that's what I was wondering, I do alot of tile and it seems like that first row is always off by a little
I wonder what that black stuff is that he's putting on the wall with the torch..
That's burnt wood from a previous solder joint.
hand truck? never heard someone call it that lol
@6.13 Guess you were listening to Alex Jonestien.
I'm pretty sure it was NPR.
The Handyman Fucking Liberal piece of communist Shit
use eye protector when you do soldering, just an advice
He's a very good worker. but he doesn't give step by step instructions on how to do the work.
Fuck Safety Goggles lol
Tubs are a bitch to take out and install.
Why do people ruin simple and elegant tile jobs with these stupid accent strips? It's so 90's.
