How to teach your dog to run with you
Running with your dog can be a great way to bond, stay fit, and enjoy the outdoors together. However, teaching your dog to run with you can be a challenging process, especially if your dog is not used to running or has not been trained to run on a leash. In this blog, we will share some tips on how to teach your dog to run with you.
Start with a walk: Before you start running with your dog, it is important to build up their endurance by going for regular walks. Start with short walks and gradually increase the distance and pace over time. This will help your dog get used to walking on a leash and build up their stamina.
Train your dog to run on a leash: Once your dog is comfortable walking on a leash, you can start training them to run on a leash. Start by jogging slowly with your dog on a short leash, keeping them close to your side. Reward your dog with treats and praise when they stay by your side.
Use positive reinforcement: Positive reinforcement is a great way to teach your dog new behaviors. When your dog does something right, reward them with treats or praise. This will encourage them to repeat the behavior in the future.
Choose a suitable time and place: When running with your dog, it is important to choose a time and place that is suitable for both of you. Avoid running during the hottest part of the day and choose a route that is safe and free from traffic.
Monitor your dog's health: Before starting a running routine with your dog, it is important to have them checked by a vet. Some breeds are not suitable for running long distances, and some dogs may have health issues that could be aggravated by running. Monitor your dog's health and make sure they are not showing any signs of exhaustion or discomfort.
Gradually increase the distance and pace: Just like humans, dogs need to build up their endurance gradually. Start with short distances and gradually increase the distance and pace over time. This will help your dog build up their stamina and avoid injury.
Make it fun: Running with your dog should be a fun activity for both of you. Take breaks to play and explore, and keep the atmosphere relaxed and positive. This will help your dog enjoy the experience and look forward to running with you in the future.
In conclusion, teaching your dog to run with you can be a great way to bond and stay fit together. However, it is important to take the time to train your dog properly and monitor their health throughout the process. With patience and positive reinforcement, you and your dog can enjoy the benefits of running together for years to come.

My dog watched this with me so hopefully he took note of that behind position.

Hey , Mr.Reed Sir , I want to say OMG thank you so much , i have been training extremely hard to help my labrador retriever son to be respectable so much so that my dog could Qualify as a service dog , Because of you sir I've been told that I have a gift in training dogs. It only took me 4 and 1/2 months time to get him to loose interest in FedEX and UPS , I also have taught him that when i run he runs , and when i slow down to walk he does the same , over all just in general , you sir have changed both me and my 6 year old Labrador hound mix son's life , you have taught and reminded me that any dog can be rehabilitated

What a beautiful way you have in calmly explaining. I am self employed and have various times of work but minimal time during the day. Decided his time is 3pm each day and to keep him hiking fit do a jog a day.
Usually he is a constant sniffer and never run with him but feel once we get foundations it should he a success. Like the lead on collar and harness. Guessing that helps the process too.

Very helpful video , I’ve got a Welsh terrier who just wants to meet everyone but I’d love to have him run with me, on and off the lead. I’m injured just now so a very easy return to running seems like the ideal time to work on this. 😊

A simpleton is a person who focuses on one variable in a multi variable situation. In your case you're grossly unaware of how many hours exercise my dogs gets, how I am with my dog, what she eats, how much freedom she has etc. Try and reserve judgment whilst searching for the full picture and you'll instantly stop being such a simpleton.
      You're welcome!
