  • OMG! Turns out my powder measure was broken and I was loading this little guy with 90g of 3F!! I thought it was 45g!! Didn't figure it out until I got home. Anyway, the kit turned out beautiful and I love shooting this little guy.

    Pedersoli flintlocks tend to have to small of a touch hole. Drill it out to 1/16 . Also do not fill pan to level of touch hole. Always use vent pick. Flintlocks are addicting.

    Pedersoli Scout flintlock rifle is my favorite gun. Nice, effective and truly enjoyed use it. I wish you lots of joyful time to it.

    All you need for proper ignition in a Flintlock is a 1/8" line of 4FG bisecting the pan. Any more than that gives a hang fire, as well as a big flash, hence causing you to flinch. And you want at least 65 gr of barrel powder to start with. 45 gr is NOT ENOUGH POWDER for a barrel charge! The reason for the delay is far too much flash powder. 50 years of Flintlock rifle experience. Average barrel charge is 75 - 80 gr, up to 110 gr. Anything less than 60 gr is not enough powder for reliable performance, also, replace the touch hole with an aftermarket RMC that installs with an Allen wrench. Also, a black English flint is most reliable. DO NOT FILL THE FLASH PAN, just a 1/8" line from touch hole to the outside edge of the pan is plenty and you will have far more reliable ignition, far less frustration and less fouling, flinching and way more fun!!

      @@terrancedull1393 sorry, just trying to help. 50 yrs hunting with a Flintlock and making nearly every mistake along the way. Trying to help, not criticize!! Too many people use far too much flash powder and give up in frustration. Just passing on my knowledge from the school of hard knocks. Take what you will, or leave it

    There is no reason to fire a priming charge in the pan without a main charge unless you want to test the spark from the flint. the reason you do it with a percussion gun is to clear grease or fouling from in front of the nipple. In a flinter, you do that with the pick.

    Wish I had one in 45 or 50. You can do it! The more you know the less products you buy. Make your own pick from a brass lil’ rod. I have just as much fun making my gear as I do shooting my flintlock.

    You shouldn't leave the pound of powder a foot and a half away from where you're shooting spewing a lot of sparks

    Never understood the logic of popping a cap or flashing a pan. When I clean my guns, they're clean, including the flash hole.

      People tend 😂over oil so they have to clear the oil out of the vent. If they used the proper amount of oil then they wouldn’t need to pop a cap

    Now when I built my Hawkins kit never had that problem although I did lash it to a tire loaded up and fire it and it fired fine then after I bought a product called eezox never had a problem with it zero rust and never had to run a patch down the bore to soak up any excess oil cuz there was never any

    All you have to do is push on the ball of that thing not bang on it and then turn it around and stick the other end in there and push the ball down further and then use the ram rod to seat it I've seen people do that and it's like all you're doing is buggering up the ball

  • @dalevodden1359
    @dalevodden1359 Před 2 lety +1

    Yeah you got to put the powder in first any other way you just bugger the dam thing up

    That's why I like cap lock you don't have to do all that horseshit and not only that weather doesn't affect it like it does a flintlock but like I said I can show you how to shoot a flintlock in pretty much every weather except right down rain you know snow yeah and now that you got to keep that Frozen dry and clean and your Flint but you didn't try hunting it down and oh when you put a flint in there wrap it with a piece of leather around the jaw so it don't break the Flint

  • @wiseguysoutdoors2954
    @wiseguysoutdoors2954 Před 2 lety +1

    Did you have a piece of leather or lead to hold the flint in?? I couldn't see clearly enough.

    Oops wrong button try to clicks and if you could do windage about a click and a half to your right if not use Kentucky windage if you know what that is aim a little bit more to your left and it should put you right on target

    I would love to get one of those rifles in 45 caliber but as far as I know in Michigan you can't get these rifles cuz I can't get a straight answer from anybody and to who ships to Michigan or how much the dam things are Plus as far as I know no one makes a 45 it's all that stinking 50 that's all I've ever seen in stores is 50 caliber muzzleloading ammo why are they ever went to a 50 caliber me and me some say 50 caliber is later b***s***
    The 45 caliber St Louis Hawkins I had that I got from Thompson center was a hell of a lot later than the 50 calibers I have held and if I could find this one in 45 I'd get it although that depends on how much they want for it anything over $1,000 is a rip off in my opinion but if this company that he's advertising for in this rifle ships to Michigan and I'll be happy to buy one as long as it's under $1,000 and not like $999 more like about $700 would be more in my price range
