    Got caught with a very heavy load of wet sloppy dirt today. Was much heavier than expected. The gross combined weight of the truck and trailer was 19,100kg or just over 41,000lbs. To be honest, I was very surprised it was that heavy as the truck didn’t let on that it was hauling that much weight. It handled the load admirably. Very confidence inspiring! If you are interested in a Ford Superduty trucks I highly recommend that you check out

      Thanks! I agree. The most impressive thing about the wide track axle is the unbelievable turning radius. It’s over 6’ tighter than the same truck but an F-350 with the standard D60 axle.

      Wish it was a true f450 and not a sales pitch. The 450 has a lower payload than the f350, so I’m not sure why ford don’t bump this up to 15k gvwr? 15k gvwr is the highest gvwr allowed for personal insurance. The gvwr doesn’t really matter for someone using this for commercial use since you need commercial insurance anyhow. If they would have given it a 15k gvwr, this would have given it the payload it lost with the 19.5” wheels, wide track, reinforced frame, etc. etc. making it better than the f350.

    Great video. I definitely would love to see a video of your 2007 pulling that same load.
    I've got the same combination of trucks (2019 F450, 2004 F350 SRW, 2006 F350 SRW, 2004 F350 dually, 2007 F350 SRW). I think the issue with the 6.0 trucks is the chassis, it's not in the same league, but yeah, those modified 6.0's pour it on.
    I think Ford's tuning on the 6.7 motors is set up to protect the motor. They control the power very well.

    • @gravytrainoutdoors
      @gravytrainoutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      Jeff Clark I would agree, the new chassis on the 2017+ trucks is noticeably stiffer and the truck handles the load better because of it. Ford has definitely got these motors tuned with durability in mind. The 6.7 in the F650/750 has a B10 rating of 500,000 miles which is crazy. I will definitely make a video of the 6.0 in the near future pulling the gooseneck.

      They definitely seem to notice the extra weight when it comes to running cool. I’ve had a few loads of spoil that have pushed me over 51,000lbs and the truck itself handles it as well as 43,500lbs but I’ve noticed that engine and tranny temps certainly creep up a lot faster once your up over the max GCVW. I’m licensed for 19,950kg and 90% of the miles on the truck have been pulling those kinds of weights so I’ve got a good baseline for operating temps. I would definitely say cooling capacity is the main limiting factor when it comes to the GCVW of these trucks! I was originally going to buy a 5500 but the dealership wasn’t very motivated. Down the road I’d like to get one and put a 10-11’ deck on it

      If you’re towing I would recommend the water meth injection but for sure. I don’t use it empty much at all. I have pretty big nozzles for the water meth so it will over quench the combustion if the EGT’s aren’t high enough. You can tune the system with smaller nozzles and run it all the time as well. I didn’t that for a little bit and got a 3-4mpg jump in mileage but it drank the juice pretty quick. I have no idea about the parked vehicles. So many people just park wherever around here. I had to run up over the curb the other day on one of the side roads because people had parked on both side of the road completely blocking it for large vehicles
