  • Ever wondered how your rig looks underwater? How much does your bait spread out when spodding?Does your marker float scare the fish. Rob Hughes delves below the surface to help answer lots of common questions like these in a new series - Understanding Underwater. In this first episode, Rob pays a visit to RK Leisure's renowned Wraysbury to show you his findings, looking at his pop-up rig, spod mix, different marker floats and how his mainline looks like while fishing what is a very weedy South Lake.

    loved the video Rob, 18 years ago I used to train beginner divers at wraysbury on a weekend but wasn't in to fishing at the time. I'm astounded by the visibility you have there as most of the time you were lucky to have anything more than a metre to see in front of you. this was brilliant when you did the rescue diver courses as most people had done their other courses abroad and never had to deal with the conditions in wraysbury

This video has given me an insight into the importance of leading about and finding ‘the’ spot and I think I have more confidence and a better understanding of how to do it now, too many fish lost in the last few weeks in very weedy lakes! My partner will be delighted that I’m ready to move onto this skill, slowly slowly for me 👍🏻😁

    @arronpreston5536 Před 3 lety +2

    Hi, I've got a question and it hasn't been answered as far as I'm aware!. Let me see if i can word this correct, so when your spodding is there any conditions where the bait drifts away during its way down? So when its flat calm we all know your bait travels straight down and spreads out the deeper the water. But would undertow be worth thinking about on a windy day? And will the bait you using make a difference? For example 2mm pellet will sink alot slower than a boilie so will it drift further away?

    • @davidshaw442
      @davidshaw442 Před 3 lety +1

      I'd imagine in choppy conditions your spoddy will drift slightly..

    • @RobHughesTV
      @RobHughesTV Před 3 lety +2

  • @karlc152
    @karlc152 Před 3 lety

    I would like to see how chod rigs are presented when fishing at range and slack lines are not an option, particularly if you are fishing at range where there is a lot of undertow. At what range is sufficient for the line angle to be acute enough to present a chod rig and how slack do the lines need to be? Is a chod rig even fishable when the tows are too strong and putting bows in the line etc? Be interesting to see how and if undertow effects line lay.

      @RobHughesTV Před 3 lety +3

      Good point. However to clarify, black is harder to see from distance as it blends in, but when you get closer to it it does stand out, as will the others. I think black zigs are easier to pick out than yellow when close. Plus remember the marker float tips are day-glo. The other thing to consider with zigs is that the fish will usually be looking up at them and it silhouettes better when seen from below. Red zigs work very well too which also confirms that the red end stands out more under water.
