  • I decided to recreate The Ralph and Russo dress worn by Zendaya at the GQ Awards. Watch the process from start to finish! This dress took me about 3 days, and was such a fun challenge to take on! Recreating someone else's garment can be super challenging, I think its just important to know that this is YOUR version, and you can take creative liberties when they speak to you!
My sewing Machine is a Juki Industrial Straight Stitch.
My Nail polish is by "Born Pretty" in hue "Grand Canyon".

The reason you get that tingle when you have that seam open and laying "flat and beautiful" is because YOU KNOW how much better it makes the finished garment looks! If the seams aren't open and flat they are very visible when worn on the types of garments you generally make, at least in the videos of yours I have seen.

She said, "The one thing that makes your sewing project look professional instead of homemade is pressing your seams open."
I have always followed that advice and still today I believe it's the key to beautiful, custom made garments which look professionally tailored. ❤️

That looks great, Gunnar! For the rolled hem, there are hemming feet that will do the task of rolling up a thin/fiddly fabric (silk, satin, some polyesters, etc) for you as it goes under the needle. They take a little work to learn but are well worth the timesaving effort, especially if overlocking isn't going to be in the cards.

I only just found your channel, but I'm already a fan! It's so nice to see a man in a profession/hobby that's dominated by women! I love watching you work and your voice is very soothing to listen to 😊 keep creating! ❤️

You are so talented. I love watching your videos, they make me want to create something for myself. Way, way back when I was at school, I was good at making clothes, then my life started the next chapter and I stopped. I am definitely going to get a sewing machine again. Thank you so much for sharing your skill and inspiration. I just love everything you create. Thank you Xx

I have to say, you are inspiring me to be less ocd about my hem lines. I’m out here with a damn sewing gauge measuring every half inch for perfection... so extra. Love your version! Beautiful work.

Thank you so much for this - the dress is amazing but I was super thrilled that you showed how you draped it on a mannekin. I'm starting to think that this will be the best way for me to recreate things for myself!
Now all I have to do is get/make a dress form/mannekin...!

You had an excellent teacher and inspiration in your grandmother. She was not only talking about sewing your garments but I feel she was talking about YOU too. And, you have succeeded. ❤ bea from WI

My grandmother said the same thing about the inside of your clothes. That really brought back a memory. Are used to so but no longer do so because of vision loss. I have followed, uses project, one way, thought you were brilliant, talented, fabulous, designer, and that you went home way too early. I enjoy seeing what you create and thank you for sharing it with us. 11:33
