- I decided to recreate The Ralph and Russo dress worn by Zendaya at the GQ Awards. Watch the process from start to finish! This dress took me about 3 days, and was such a fun challenge to take on! Recreating someone else's garment can be super challenging, I think its just important to know that this is YOUR version, and you can take creative liberties when they speak to you!
My sewing Machine is a Juki Industrial Straight Stitch.
My Nail polish is by "Born Pretty" in hue "Grand Canyon".
If I was a film star, I would have this man make my red carpet gown.
P
I would have him do my red carpet and interview looks. He is the type of designer who helps you become a fashion Icon...love this man❤❤❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I wonder if he sells the dresses after he makes them
I bet he would make you one if you compensated him!..? Idk Ask!

Someone hire this man to design their clothes he deserves to be represented on one of those high end red carpet award shows
@Shivani Prabhu,
Shhhhhh, don't tell him that yet!! We won't be able to see his Magnificent work, if he goes where he belongs; which is at the 🎩 top🌟
In think I like yours better than the original
I’ve never really been that into fashion but damn you make me wanna learn how to sew my own clothes
"Kanye Yeast "! Funny nickname ! Thanks for making me smile 😅
I love your name. Fuckimg genius.
@@pretty948 thanks lol. I change it like every other week 😂
It’s harder than it looks
@@lilyfisher4548 yeah I can tell
You should remake lupita nyong'o red carpet dress form the 2014 oscars! That dress is stunnnning
Yes I totally agree with u 👌
Don't
Do
Oooo that’s the baby blue Cinderella one, right?
@@argella1300 yessss
My grandmother was a master seamstress and would make her own patterns just like you are doing. I kept thinking you are not using a pattern
..wow. she made my moms wedding dress by going to the window where the dress my mom wanted. My parents were married in 1954 and grandma brought the silk material from the garment district in New York. I remember her taking me there once...fascinsting.
Great memories
I love how meticulous you are! I watch your tiktoks, so to see the same vibe but longer and more in-depth is absolute heaven ✨✨
As a fellow male designer dressmaker, i love seeing how others work on garments. Thank you for posting! 😇
I'm actually not a fan of this dress, it's too imbalanced on the eye.
But good job!
You love pressing your seams ay 🤭
Have you tried making Disney character dresses?
@@janecitizen8884 you... Replied to a comment not the video
Ok wait. Who are you. How in the world are you this incredibly skilled. And HOW DID I JUST FIND YOU? I’m honestly so happy to have stumbled on this video, and I can hardly believe my eyes at how talented you are. It’s like you’ve been sewing in a fashion for 15 years, and I can definitely tell you’ve been to fashion school. Keep going like this and you’re for sure gonna be on of the biggest sewing gurus of CZcams! Only thing missing in this video is your face :)
I believe I heard him say he's self taught in a diff vid...

@@searchapostateprophetabdul2398 oh, you like to turn information into drama, too bad this isn't that, but thanks for playing...
I first saw him on Project Runway. He is very talented.
I can't sew but I love to watch Gunnar's videos .He is the most under -rated dress-maker I feel.... He should have his own brand and make clothes with all kinds of materials, affordable for everyone💖
I really appreciate his range of sizes 2-32.;Yeah!!!
nobody:
me: dang that manequins been through something
Bah ha ha ha ha ha
Lol why you bei hy my inner thoughts??
That is the physical manifestation of how much this man loves to create!
This cracked me up 😂
I've always wanted to make shit like this and I've never been able to find a good tutorial for how to make your own patterns and stuff. Your tiktok has helped so much and now I get to see an even more detailed process on your youtube. I'm so excited!
Howd it go?
Can we all talk about how calming and beautiful his voice is, and the skill here is so impressive, you are amazing.
Truth! He is the "Bob Ross" of sewing!
I love that expression, "think about how one piece can help out another".
Birdy
That was really nice.
The reason you get that tingle when you have that seam open and laying "flat and beautiful" is because YOU KNOW how much better it makes the finished garment looks! If the seams aren't open and flat they are very visible when worn on the types of garments you generally make, at least in the videos of yours I have seen.
CZcams always suggests me your shorts but I found them to be quite, well, short. I really, really love this. I like getting to see the construction of the dress step by step, perfect video length
Good price i hope
I am a recent subscriber. While your out of this world creations make the planet wobble on its axis it’s YOU -- your grounded, down to earth approach that makes what you do real and refreshing. No snobbery, no attitude, no pretentious airs … just you rummaging through your grandma’s button jar, turning straps with safety pins and creating out of the box creations with exquisite bargain fabrics. I envy your unbridled freedom to fully express yourself.
This is the first sewing video where I actually understood what’s going on lol
I remember the sound of the needle hitting the pins & my home ec teacher giving me the HAIRIEST of eyeballs. I just started sewing again & im binging your videos 😍 so inspiring
i love your grandmas comments about making the inside of the garment look as beautiful as the outside! sounds just like my metalworking teacher, who always says that the back of a piece of jewelry is just as important as the front. the only person who will see it is whoever wears the piece, but its still part of the art and it has a conversation with the person who interacts with it!
I have wanted to be a fashion designer since I was 3 but sewing and pattern making give me anxiety so I have always held off on my dream. I’m almost 29 and honestly this has been the BEST video I have seen regarding creating a garment. Seeing you create without a pattern and the attention to detail in your process and decision making has truly encouraged me! Thank you.
You have tremendous patience. There’s no way I’m going to have even an ounce of that patience in this lifetime.
I am learning a lot from your videos. I am a salsa dancer from India and I will be in a much better position when we begin to design our next costume because of your videos.
Kudos to you 👏👏👏👏
Love this. Your TikToks are amazing but it is great to see a more in-depth breakdown. Would love to see more content like this as well as some basics. 🙌🏽
I love how this almost like a tutorial. Very beginner friendly guide for making your own patterns which is amazing for an aspiring sewer like me
YES! I just want to thank you for your wonderful content! You have taught me so much about pattern making and fabrics! Love your work
I love how confident you are a truly professional! And the voice is very soothing ❤️keep up the passionate work you do👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
He is indeed talented! Love his vocal narration, a very soothing voice.
I absolutely love how detailed you are with explaining why you do the steps you do!! Would love a bit more of the finished product though. Loving your content!!!!
Your whole process n seeing n hearing what great work you do is simply breathtaking!!
“Flat & Beautiful”
I’m sure that moves not only you but us too!!
I eagerly anticipate that phrase! It’s catchy n a disorderly piece becomes one again, in line w/the fabric.
Thank you for sharing Gunnar!! You are definitely one of a kind!!
Why is there even an “unlike” option on this channel??? He’s perfect!!!
Your recreations are sooo beautiful! It’s so satisfying when you press your seams. I haven’t learned about draping yet but you make me so excited about taking that class in college
You are amazingly gifted. Besides the attention to design and detail, I am also impressed with your attention to cost. I feel that beauty should not be over priced as it removes its access from everyday people. Mother nature of course gives us the deepest inspiration for beauty, but materials, texture and colour affect our state of mind too.
Thank you to his grandmother for recognizing cherishing and nurturing the beauty and creativity in this child's mind... It was her gift to him and to all of us... Thank goodness boys that paint their nails and wear makeup and make beautiful dresses are allowed to grow and flourish and enrich our societies now...what a talent!
Your TikTok channel was at least 50% of why I decided to finally buy a sewing machine so it was really cool to watch you work in real-time! Also, I think I'm going to try out your rolled-hem technique for a project I'm doing tomorrow :)
Please never stop making videos 😍😍😍
Wow, I am from India. And the golden sequin fabric is actually a very common fabric available here. I have used it for my blouse too
I’m a complete amateur when it comes to sewing, as in everything I do is completely improvised. After watching your videos, it’s helped me to understand a lot more about how patterns work and inspired me to try new things! Thank you so much for putting these videos out!
Can I say this is absolute perfection but let's take it to another level! I'm inspired to see this concept but beach wedding themed dress, can you transcend that look or explore that idea since summer is coming too? Also with dresses can you show the back too? Its always the front, I was hoping to see it 360 view.
I will forever be amazed by people who sew. All the math and meticulousness is very intimidating! Also an absolutely beautiful dress you've made 💙
aside from the dress, your grass/mountain background is so beautiful
This is an amazing tutorial. I am a novice at sewing, admittedly, but this is the first time I have understood how you make patterns using the mannequin. Not to mention virtually everything you say is so power-packed with pro tips. Thank you!!! ❤️🪡
Thank you for explaining a little about the draping method. I'm leaning toward practicing more with draping. I feel like draping will allow me to be more creative with my designs while also allowing me to be more accurate with my patterns.
Yes to the dress and I always notice your presentation of a garment is always in a beautiful location. Thank you for both.
I LOVE watching you. I can mend but the thought of making a whole dress makes me want to sit on the floor and cry.
You are amazing! I know your Mom is so proud of your talent and what a wonderful, kind, giving man you are!💜
I just love to watch and listen to you work. You’re creations are just fabulous and always amaze me.
Amazing! Love your work Gunnar! You give such great tips I've incorporated already in my pieces. Thank you.
I loved hearing you talk of your grandmother! Also like how you share what you are doing as you make your pattern pieces. Very well done! That is ... the dress and your video. Thank you!
I wanna see it on a person so badd😩
As a enthusiastic neophyte of sewing arts these tutorials are so inspiring
detailed and creative and fun
Thank you
Your voice is literally mesmerising I came here from the CZcams shorts and ohmagad I've never even been interested in dress making but this is just so satisfying to watch!
I love how your grandmother’s words stayed with you. Such great advice. Your beautiful creations do her proud, Gunnar! 💕
I'm here just for his voice, I can hear it all day long it's so calming ❤️❤️
Ahhhh!!!!! This is so cool!!!!! You should totally make more vids like this!! It's super helpful for beginners like to me to watch a professional!! It's also just really cool to watch the process!!
I never get tired of watching his creations ❤️
Drop dead gorgeous, Gunnar. I've been sewing many years but I can always learn something new from you. You are going to be a design superstar, imaginative, creative, not cartoonish.
Love it! I love your tiktoks so I'm so glad I subscribed. The gold sequins are so fun!!
STUNNING as always!!! You make the process seem easy, which is probably quite challenging. You have incredible talent!!!! 😊💜
Gunnar, I love how you really explain exactly what, how and why you do what you do the get the effect you desire. Well done. Beautiful dress.
Honestly I wanna learn to do dresses like this but I know nothing like literally nothing can.i was wonderingly if you do like a video going in depth with measurements and stuff like that for not the brightest of people like myself 😭
I love how I watch these with such awe and enthusiasm... knowing I'll never actually sit down to sew anything - like it's so satisfying just to watch you make something so beautiful 😍
Many years ago, I took the time to learn to sew from a lady who managed our town's local Singer sewing machine shop. She said something I will never forget and think about each time I watch you pressing your seams "nice and flat!"
She said, "The one thing that makes your sewing project look professional instead of homemade is pressing your seams open."
I have always followed that advice and still today I believe it's the key to beautiful, custom made garments which look professionally tailored. ❤️
Love your talents! Thank you for sharing not only the finished masterpieces, but the joy of the process.
P.S. I still am in awe of the dress you made from bougainvillea flower petals! One of my absolute favorite creations! I think about it often.
I do not know the first thing about fashion or gowns.I do know that your artistry is amazing.Beautiful.
That looks great, Gunnar! For the rolled hem, there are hemming feet that will do the task of rolling up a thin/fiddly fabric (silk, satin, some polyesters, etc) for you as it goes under the needle. They take a little work to learn but are well worth the timesaving effort, especially if overlocking isn't going to be in the cards.
I love the saying "lay flat and beautiful"-. I would agree- looks so great!! Love your videos!!! Thank you!!
Its so relaxing watching and listening to you. Your dresses are gorgeous👗always a fan👏👏👏
I love how you explain everything your doing as you go along on your video’s. This dress is stunning x
I have never seen someone so excited about a flat seam. LOL! Okay you have convinced me. Start ironing my seams. The dress is breathtaking!
Amazing!!!!! I love how thorough you are and with the amount of passion you work!!! Love this so mUch!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Gunnar, not only are you talented, but you are a wonderful teacher. You make sewing seem effortless & adventurous at the same time. 👏 👏. 💯
I found some huge heavy square washers in a DIY store that are perfect for pattern weights because they can be positioned close to the edge of the pattern pieces. Also, magnets are my friend. I have magnets EVERYWHERE in my sewing kit because I'm hopeless at dropping and fumbling pins so when I'm sewing I will have a strong magnet on hand by my sewing machine and use it to gather the pins I remove as I sew. I am loving these videos so much I love watching the draping techniques
I always thought flat pattern was the best until I started working with custom clients - draping is so much faster to understand the final look - great tutorial!
That is gorgeous! I would've loved to see how it moves on a live model!
I love how detailed you are, and how well you explain every step. As well, finally someone who loves ironing or pressing as much as I do.
If you see this , I have a question for you. Have you always held your pencil like that? My son does the exact same thing!!!! He says holding a pen/pencil "normally" hurts his hands. Curious as to why you prefer your hand position.
I've always loved draping vs flat draft patterning...
Thank you for being the first to really show this process from beginning to end!❤ I’ve seen helpful videos but this takes the cake!
Your nails are so pretty!! I'm old (49 in a few weeks) and I am very happy to see more people wearing whatever the hell they want, regardless of what gender norms try to dictate. I'm also so impressed with your sewing... I've started machine sewing in the last year or so, and I'm blown away by just how little actual sewing (at the machine) is involved, compared to the drafting, ironing, laying pieces out, ironing, cutting pieces, and IRONING!! So worth it, though!
This Hass to be one of the most well put and easy to understand and follow tutorial I’ve ever seen
You are INCREDIBLY talented... you mumma having a DESIGNER in the family is just A MIRACULOUS gift! You are so inspired & gifted! I WISH I could see that beautiful beautiful dress on a person? ❤FABULOUS
Love to see you sewing beautiful pieces of art !!
I agree with so many of the other comments. I made my maternity clothes over 40 years ago after looking at the prices. Am now making some dresses for my granddaughter. Just found your CZcams, subscribed, and enjoy. YOU are MARVELLOUS.
the dress is so pretty, you definitely did an amazing job!!!
I've found you just as I'm starting my journey into making garments. Loving your content. I only hope I get close to your level.
5 minutes in and you’ve already taught me so much! I subscribed!!
OMG. I don't know why but your videos are so calming to watch but also informative too!!! I love it and your talent!!! 😍 your work is beautiful!
I was watching a sew compilation on youtube and one of your videos was in it so I came here to say the layering and the off shoulder vest is stunning, so chic like you said and not basic either.
I’ve been watching your CZcams shorts and TikToks for a while now, but this is the first full length video I’ve seen. Your work is obviously incredible; it doesn’t take a sewing expert to see that. But your method of using tape strips to drape the design is the most useful thing I’ve seen. I’ve been wanting to learn how to sew for a while now, but all the patterns were so complicated that it seemed like a daunting task. This simplified it in a huge way for me. Thank you for that ❤
Thank you for making these videos and sharing them with us. I love watching you. ❤️ from Oklahoma
I saw you on tik tok for the first time... you are so talented.... makes me want to start sewing again... where do you buy the dress mannequins ?
I only just found your channel, but I'm already a fan! It's so nice to see a man in a profession/hobby that's dominated by women! I love watching you work and your voice is very soothing to listen to 😊 keep creating! ❤️
You are so talented. I love watching your videos, they make me want to create something for myself. Way, way back when I was at school, I was good at making clothes, then my life started the next chapter and I stopped. I am definitely going to get a sewing machine again. Thank you so much for sharing your skill and inspiration. I just love everything you create. Thank you Xx
Can you remake violet chatcki dress wen she gave up the crown the purple one
I have to say, you are inspiring me to be less ocd about my hem lines. I’m out here with a damn sewing gauge measuring every half inch for perfection... so extra. Love your version! Beautiful work.
I love how cautious he is about his work and careful LIKE HOW?!?
Thank you so much for this - the dress is amazing but I was super thrilled that you showed how you draped it on a mannekin. I'm starting to think that this will be the best way for me to recreate things for myself!
Now all I have to do is get/make a dress form/mannekin...!
I LOVE THIS I watched all your tik toks but this is so much better! It’s so much more detailed and I learn so much about it
You make me relieve my days in fashion school... You're amazing at this also
You had an excellent teacher and inspiration in your grandmother. She was not only talking about sewing your garments but I feel she was talking about YOU too. And, you have succeeded. ❤ bea from WI
My grandmother said the same thing about the inside of your clothes. That really brought back a memory. Are used to so but no longer do so because of vision loss. I have followed, uses project, one way, thought you were brilliant, talented, fabulous, designer, and that you went home way too early. I enjoy seeing what you create and thank you for sharing it with us. 11:33
This is so clever! Also your voice is lovely for ASMR. You’re multi-talented.
