This challenge was SO worth it! I have never taken on a miniature before, but this won't be my last time! Such a gratifying process to see the finished product revealed in such a lovely space! All in all, it took me a full day to make the dress! I think it took Chris a full week to make the form itself! Massive Thank you to Chris Toledo for collaborating with me pin this! By the way can make it out of velvet!? So sorry for being so demanding. Looking forward to seeing them if you dare. See ya later sweetie. Stay safe out there. Take care and God bless.

That math part was amazing to hear. I too failed algebra. I crochet and have to calculate how much yarn or string I need to make a piece. Stitch ratio to form is a must, BTW: I've also been doing my own taxes since I was 18 as a single parent, it helped me earn extra money during tax season. Later in life I became a successful production manager...numbers were a necessity there too. You hit it right on the nose, if you're doung something you love, the math part will come naturally.

@@Gingersnaps_the_pumpkin_kitty agreed. I’m a sociology student and an artist (I bring this up because it demonstrates that I am a visual learner, but am in a stats based degree), and there’s a massive difference between things like stats based math, like inequalities and matrices, geometry, shit like that. I feel the issue is tangibility, as opposed to learning method. Like, if you’re not able to put your finger on what this skill set would be used for in real life, and in tandem with learning methods (like if you’re a visual learner, as opposed to a verbal learner, and a text based learner). Like what the fella said; if you’re learning something for something you love to do, it helps gap that bridge on tangibility. At least, that’s what I’ve understood, don’t take this as 100% fact

I used to make dresses like this for my dolls when I was a kid. Not barbies but stuff like second hand Rose Petal Place and MLP Megans - which were roughly the size of your dressform. I used fabric scraps that I found (and sometimes Kleenex!) and used hairspray to keep the pieces in place. I work as a civil designer now but love to design as a hobby

My grandmother loved miniatures. A coworker made her a dollhouse when she was in her mid 60"s. She and I spent hours redoing the rooms when I would visit. There was even a yearly miniature show at a local event center that *we would buy things for the dollhouse or just to have. I was in dance, she had a miniature tutu, point shoes, hanger, tiara, and coat rack in a glass case (like Belle's rose). I have the doll house and still have my ballerina costume. And of course my memories w her.

    Challenges ideas. Let me think.
•Replicas of the wedding dresses Disney princesses wear in their animated films and books
    •Dress inspired by a pheonex
•Make up a superhero and create something for him/her to wear. Try to make it unique and fit it his/her personality and his/her powers, abilities, and skills. See if you can outdo Edna Mode.
•Outfit for a steampunk pirate that is young, very good at math (especially probility), funny, has two dogs and a cat, for her crew, timid around new people at first, is so bad at pirating that the reward offered for her capture is a penny, lost her parents in a Bermuda Triangle in the sky formed by a hurricane, built her own blimp out of spare parts, and can be a bit of a fangirl.
•Create an animal inspired dress of your choosing.
•Create an inexpensive dress that could be worn in a masquerade ball.
•If there was a civilization in Antarctica, what kind of clothes would somebody wear?
•Create an outfit for a book character
Just a few suggestions. I look forward to whatever you do next.

  • @catherinejustcatherine1778

&, yes, of course, been subscribed for months... well, since I began regularly watching.
Loving the idea of a mini inside the perfect mini room.
    Fabulous as always!
    Since you ask,
I suggest a Spring Awakening mini dress, trimmed with tiny jewels, embroidery, or both.
    &,
If course depending on how you feel h how popular mini format is, perhaps a seasonal series of tiny gala level dresses for your mini model

I love your videos. You're so much more experienced and talented than I'll ever be. Your videos and designs have been a real joy
A general tip I was told when I started sewing miniature clothes for Barbie dolls (mostly Barbie Looks dolls) was to respect the scale by keeping to finer (thinner) fabrics when sewing multiple layers. Also, watch areas like sleeves and waistbands. Too much bulk in these areas on a 6 or 12 inch doll can ruin the look.
Please do more of the doll sewing but I would personally love it if you used the good old, all-American Barbie as your model. Thank-you. ❤

  • @kittyblossom7342
    @kittyblossom7342 Před 2 lety

Professional designers or tailors who are used to working on bigger forms find it hard to work on miniatures.
I started on with miniature clothings and I can remember how my mum used to say that she can't understand why I make miniatures clothings when it's so difficult to work on. But I found it easier, and at times more budget friendly, coz I couldn't afford to buy too much fabric and spend it on dresses which I'm not gonna wear.
On the other hand, you can find extra fabrics to design anything in small scale. Sometimes, you just go to tailor shops, and ask them to give you scrape fabrics for free. This is a fantastic way to explore your creativity for beginners, who don't have the budget yet, and trains you for the future.

My precious maternal grandma (who was born in 1893, may she rest in peace) made dresses and suits for my Barbie doll when I was a child back in the 1960s. Sadly, I lost all of those precious outfits when my mother (may she also rest in peace) threw out everything I had stashed in the basement of my childhood home when I moved out, after the basement flooded 3 feet deep.
My grandma made the most gorgeous tailored mint green boucle suit for my 1958 Barbie (the one with the short golden-blonde bubble/helmet hair). Miraculously, that doll was NOT in the basement when it flooded, and I still have it to this day. I also have Barbie’s white plastic dressing table with working drawer and attached oval mirror, bench, and red shag rug from that era. I cherish them and the wonderful memories they carry.
I would pay you to recreate that suit for my Barbie doll. Would you consider that?
I absolutely adore you, Gunnar. Keep up the great work and fabulous videos. You have inspired me to start sewing again.

I've never made a dress that is 6". However, I have made tons of Barbie clothes. I even took on a project for extra credit in my High School History glass. I took about 6 of my old Barbie and Ken dolls and dressed them in historical fashions. I made a Saxon man, a Civil War dress, and a Sideless Surcoat. There was also a Juliet dress. I wanted to do an Elizabethan male costume but couldn't quite manage the ruff and coat. I can't remember the other costumes, but I do remember that I was having trouble with the hooped petticoat. I finally found an idea in a magazine. This was long before the internet, so I just struck it lucky. I soaked it in sugar water. High on the sugar content. I put it to dry on a gallon size jar. It was all very hard to do the sewing.

As a miniaturist I was all up in this! I have a miniature iron and we find crazy tools and have to think outside the box. I love the dress! Great job!

You knocked it out of the park with this one, Wow!!!😍❤️👏🏼
Absolutely beautiful, and apologies to the late Vivienne Westwood(who I adore the work of) but I actually think this is a design I would choose over the “Carrie” wedding dress! (Shock! I know!🤯Because I’m a die hard SATC fan!) but with the constraint of making it to size, you did a fabulous job!!👏🏼 Love watching your videos, more more more, please!!
I’d love to see you do some 90’s looks, some more vampy lace goth looks(but with a little softness), and I would love to see you do more Mugler inspired looks, with your own twist! A sculpted Blazer Dress, I want everything!!!😊😂❤️❤️❤️
Watching your channel is like the little girl in me living her dream, as even as a young child I would get through so many notebooks sketching dresses, wedding gowns, all sorts & my Nan thought I would be a Fashion Designer, but I ended up in Management(which I loved & thrived in, BUT I wonder what my life would have been like if I had gone to Fashion college instead of business….dreaming now!) but your channel means I can live vicariously through you,. My Nan was a dressmaker & also made wedding gowns also👗.
So a BIG Thanks & Cheers to your Gunnar!🍸👑❤️😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💐
❤️Love all the way in England, UK🇬🇧🥂

Can you imagine how many yards of fabric it would take to make that dress full scale? It's beautiful and the attention to detail stunning.

Gunnar, you do not disappoint! 🥰🥰🥰
I must say, I am super impressed that you allow your beautiful kitty cat anywhere near your material, tools, etc. Please pass along some kisses from me.
I am curious, what do you do with the normal sized outfits?
I so hope you do some more miniature collaborations in the future!
I have pretty much thrown in the towel at 53 in the hopes of wearing a wedding dress.
I am considering doing a Muriel's Wedding run!! I just have to get gutsy enough!
If you ever feel like making a plus size, purple wedding dress, I would LOVE to see it!
    Love and kisses,
    Carol
