“Ella Fitzgerald is the only performer with whom I’ve ever worked who made me nervous. Because I try to work up to what she does. You know, try to pull myself up to that height, because I believe she is the greatest popular singer in the world, barring none-male or female.” -Frank Sinatra
That's why she was such a tramp for him.
7 Decades in music with no errors ever recorded will take some beating.
the legend fears another legend. Legends has a legend
TheWorldLearner
That is saying a lot!!
Never saw Frank have more fun singing.
when Frank Sinatra is the second best singer in the room...
She sangs rings around him. But he was highly overrated anyway, in my opinion.
Pam Tebelman I agree, Ella Fitzgerald is one of a kind
Frank was a great singer, Ella was a living instrument...
Precisely,..LOL?!! BUT they're bring THE BEST of it all the time?!! NO ONE..NOT EVEN ONE Until today can change their place when sing that song?!!
These two are the number one and number two singers in American history
RIP Frank Sinatra (December 12, 1915 - May 14, 1998), aged 82
And
RIP Ella Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 - June 15, 1996), aged 79
You both will be remembered as legends.
Mr. Sinatra shares the same birthday with another great Italian crooner - Connie Francis
We will never see the likes of the great stars again,it’s sad what music is today all digital and auto tune❤
Her Voice, her phrasing, her pitch, her ear, OMG! everything is just PERFECT!!!!!!!!! She's not a tramp, the Lady is a PHENOMENON!!!!
That's hook the of the song, when a female is ladylike, the others (the true tramps) will jealously call (a true lady) a tramp, check it out.
Impeccable
She really was a phenomenon!

Sinatra said Ella Fitzgerald was the best singer (male or female) he ever heard and the only singer who made him nervous to sing with because he had to be up to her standards.
That is absolutely true.
Michael Morris Oh yes! He loved Ella!
Not true
See
I thought Billie Holiday was his idol...i heard a VERY sad story when he went to visit Billie in the hospital and she tried to get him to get her heroin...she died a few days later and he locked himself in a room for a few days bcuz he was heartbroken
Ella’s voice is literally just too good for this human race
Let me put it another way:
The most perfect vocal instrument the Human Race has ever produced, possessed by the Greatest Jazz Musician (with the possible exception of Louis Armstrong), ditto.
officially the smoothest sound to be heard anywhere on this planet,Ella's voice is not just a thing of beauty,it is medicine for the soul.

They honestly slap just as well as the singers
It was a great collaboration they all worked in unison the band and singers what a performance amazing.
The band is great
Ive played in many big bands and ive never heard a band just cook so hard

When Ella charts hits across 8 decades like FAS, then we'll discuss Ella.
Ella was and still is the Queen of Jazz. The quality of sound, the pearls given to the mere mortals is a joy to behold that will last a lifetime. Glorious.
My god. Her voice is just perfect in every way. Tone, vibrato, intonation. It's literally perfect.
How can she be so effortlessly good, it’s incredible
She's brilliant.....
She’s flatly the best ever. Her command of her voice, I’ve never seen it replicated.
I always love it when singers look and act like they’re having the time of their life while singing. Frank here looks like he’s having legitimate fun while singing with Ella. It’s so sweet and wholesome
Those two times he gets silly break me up every time.
It's called professional respect - Ole Blue Eyes knew he was with working with entertainment royalty! I was privileged to Miss Ella perform live in our town upon the opening of a renovated PAC - what a THRILL!!! This was in 1980 and she was still performing across the country. The last 10 years of her life were tragically plagued by many illnesses including severe Type 2 diabetes. RIP Miss Ella--truly one of a kind!

The only thing the history of jazz music is missing is an album of duets with Fitzgerald and Sinatra. What stratospheric GOLD that would be!

I LOVE ELLA. Literally sounds like a Songbird on a warm summer evening.
Sinatra is a good singer but Ella it’s just amazing, it’s like she was just telling you a story with her voice like it was hers, she was so natural ✨
Good Frank was the goat !
Stupid how could u compare him to a lady? Compare labelle or aretha or whitney, lets see
I'm aware you're talking about vocal abilities here, but Sinatra was not only a singer, and you may need to know about history to know what he truly was. He was a privileged white male artist in a world where women and any other races were seen as inferior.
That being said, he was outspoken about being anti-racist, and was an early activist during the Civil Rights Movement.
Throughout his career, he insisted on having integrated backing orchestras and his band would always provide equal pay and treatment for all musicians, regardless of race. He refused to stay at hotels or play at clubs that did not admit people of colour. He performed with almost every black idol of jazz, blues and swing, including Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., and Count Basie. He was also vocal about his appreciation for the influence of musical icons such as Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald (as seen on this video).
Sinatra was a big-time supporter of Martin Luther King Jr., providing support to the Civil Rights Movement by headlining fundraisers whenever possible. During the 1960s, Frank Sinatra was recruited by Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to join the Civil rights marches in the South. Sinatra would go on to receive a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP.
@@bonnieta Sinatra abused women though.

When talent mattered in entertainment....
So true!!! I just log into 'YT' and pick up onto talent from years ago...REAL TALENT!! Most of today's :talent" is well meaning CRAP...but it's not the fault of the performer...it's just the way things in the music industry has "PROGRESSED". I read many comments by young people who wished they'd been around when there was so much "popular" music [of all kinds] being produced...during the 1950s and 60s by EXCITING performers...
JuicyTaz201 frank was also involved in the mafia
Santino Miller but sinatra was involved with the Vegas mafia because back then they owned all the casinos
Santino Miller I know he was good I was just saying
It still takes talent, more in terms of marketing, PR and predicting trends but talent nonetheless
Give it up for that smokin' band, too.
So true. Much of the enjoyment of a Sinatra concert (especially in the last decade or two where the voice was not what it once was) was listening to the top tier musicians, and the charts by the world's greatest arrangers.
Oh yeah, I am enjoying them so much
She’s like a pipe organ of a thousand sounds and songs. Astonishing
She never got out of tune... Never in her all life.

The thing is, this kind of talent, hands down, from the musicians to the singers, still exists today, but it's not commercialized/ not pop culture. There may be a group out there playing this right now, but nobody knows who they are because it's not marketable.
its true to some dagree!!!
There actually is one and its a cover of The Lady Is A Tramp by Karin Bachner music channel. Its decent and I recommend people hear it if they want.
@@homedepotbrick Went and found this video. Ms. Bachner on the Ella scale is about a 2.5. She's has a mediocre voice at best, diction is nothing to write home about nor is her predilection to gutturally scream when she gets to a sustained note. She's grade-school T-ball versus (Ella) the New York Yankees.
Ive got another one that may be up to standards, Natalie King is pretty good in my opinion.
So sad!
I was born in 2000, these guys were gone long before me. Yet I love this music as a black man from France. I dont know how I discovered this music, but Im glad I did. Its getting me through a tough time. I hate the music my peers listen to, music in today is vulgar, loud and savage with hypersexualised hyperviolent messaging. I cant help but think our society as youth is a reflection of the music we consume in my generation. I dont know why I wrote this but a part of me wishes music like this would come back and bring the good times again.
Je suis né bien avant mais j’aurais pas dit mieux ! J’ai découvert cette musique à 16 ans ….et je n’ai jamais décroché
I agree, I don't like all these songs about sex or violence.
Look at that cozy space…no need for binoculars to view performers off in the distance..,
Great music has no boundaries or expiration dates.
I love the fact that they're obviously finished, the band has stopped, and the house lights go on... and the audience wheedles another few bars out of them anyway.
And then she powerhouses her way through the ending even stronger than before. 😂
This was SO good to see. Both of them were amazing.

Its Sinatras song
They were both born to be unique, can't stand the comparison between the two, I wouldn't even listen to Frank if he tried to hit super high notes, and scat sing like Ella does, that's imitation. His charm was his appealing simplicity and irresistible masculinity of his voice😍 Ella was a genius for her clear tones and inherent virtuosity, Apples and oranges, both extremely delicious!
Feels like comparing Kelly and Astaire.
Just leave it out, folks!
Hello Barbara
How are you doing today
I wanted to catch both Frank and Ella before they died, so I saw a show where they both sang together at The Greek Theater. Ella had to sing from a wheelchair. When they did "Mack the Knife," Ella managed to hit a high note that sent everyone to their feet. I'll never forget it. But here's the kicker. I wondered why she only sang from the chair, only to learn later that they had cut both of her legs off because of her diabetes. Talk about a consummate professional, she was "it."
Yeah Frank's trying to keep up. Frank is tops but Ella is the topper. This is the time when people had actual singing talent and performed smart, romantic and beautiful music. Two greats performing great music, with great orchestrations and a great orchestra
I do miss the romance!
You can see the pure respect and joy Sinatra has with Fitzgerald. They are really playing together and giving their parts such character.

The voices, the intonations, the joy. I know that each generation thinks that theirs is the best, but what popular singers today even come close?
There's no denying that singers from different time periods were talented, especially Ella Fitzgerald, but I definitely think that artists today are also talented. I'm tired of so many people comparing.
I am not of that generation (Gen Xer, here) and I have musical preferences across all genres. This era of music is unequivocally my absolute favorite. While there are current artists that are certainly talented, I do not think there is one vocalist still living that can hold a candle to the standard set by this generation. I mean, seriously. Who still records with a full orchestra? The man may have had some questionable lifestyle choices, but vocally, he was absolutely amazing. Timing...phrasing...tone...presence...he had it all.

unpopular opinion: they are BOTH amazing, and have their own way. Neither is superior to the other one
Sinatra's voice was till maturing here. Also, fast tempo, ain't quite his strongest suit.
Mighty unpopular
actually, she is way better than him. And that is fact, not only personal opinion. I love me some Sinatra from time to time but it gets boring after too many songs. Ella, on the othe hand, well you can hear her untill you die and she will still be worth every second of it. No one is like her.
in a very general sense their voices are rather dissimilar ella has a significantly more full voice which is beautiful but sometimes frank’s lighter intonation is necessary. in this recording ella absolutely shines and a good part of that is frank knows when to pull back and support his duet partner
It's an unpopular opinion for a reason... While they're both incredible talents, there's something more to Ella, it's hard to describe, but the trained ear can hear it! Ask any well respected musician... Ella has something more. Again, not denying the incredible talent in Frank. Anyone would be lucky to sing half as well as him.
