World's Most Dangerous Roads - Haiti: Down to Hell

  • 00:00 Haiti, the poorest country in the Caribbean, relies on dirt tracks for transportation of goods and people across the country.
02:55 Once called the pearl of the Antilles, Haiti struggles to survive.
14:41 Employment opportunities are scarce for all ages.
18:40 Haiti is home to many religions and dangerous situations.
27:48 Salt workers, mostly women, face an exhausting workload.
29:25 Steep paths and corrupt politicians are among the challenges faced in Haiti.
36:23 Miners continue to search for gold nuggets in the country.
44:55 Bad weather further complicates the already difficult journey for many in Haiti.
Five years after the earthquake struck Port-au-Prince and the surrounding area, the consequences of the disaster can still be felt. To cross the country, dirt roads are the only means of conveying goods and people. It often takes more than ten hours to cover the 80 kilometers that separate Gonaives from Mole Saint Nicolas in the north east of the country. Only one bus provides the link despite constant punctures and the accidents that litter the route. Those who risk taking to the roads in Haiti often invoke Voodoo spirits to accompany them on their journey along the infernal roads running alongside beaches from Eden beside a crystal blue sea.

The only redeeming thing about Haiti is it's Catholicism, but to say they defeated France is an understatement. It was tied down with a continental war and cash strapped, the expedition force sent to retake Haiti was a poultry amount. They did not fight the greatest or best of Europeans military at that time. And what did they do after France left it alone? They murdered every single white including those that were fine with freeing them and in the early 20th century to give the America's AIDS. Honestly the whole place needs to be liberated back to Africa and give the whole island to The D.R.

$600 euros for a new tire?! I don’t understand how people can survive in countries where the price of goods by no means reflects the citizens income. In Canada I could buy an entire set of mid grade new tires for $450 Canadian dollars. That is roughly one weeks wages after taxes and deductions for a person making minimum wage. Living here on minimum wage in a single income household even for just one person is nearly impossible. I couldn’t imagine trying to live on 1-2 euros per day with prices as high as they are there for certain things. I’m so blessed to live in an amazing country like Canada. In my opinion the best country on earth. Many think it’s the US. I’ve lived there and I can tell you it’s not even close! Way to much gun violence and just violence in general. Not too mention way to much political bullshit. In Canada, the six o’clock news can cover everything that happened in politics in 2-3 minutes. It doesn’t need a channel like CNN that talks politics 20+ hours a day every single day. If you live in a country that requires 140 hours per week in political news coverage…your country has some serious fkn issues. If you live in a country of 440 MILLION people, and the best person you can think of to represent your country is Donald Dump…your country has ISSUES!😵‍💫🤯
