I used to work in a deli and I ran the meat slicer so I know how dangerous those things are. I watched a few minutes of this video and I just had to look away. It made me really nervous watching it. I was very cautious every second I was around the slicer. Please, please, please be very , very careful if you slice your bread this way. Yes, it does a wonderful job and you can get them pretty cheap but always respect that machine and never , ever be anything except hyper-focused and extremely careful when you operate one.

Yeah, I thought she was definitely putting herself in grave danger. I can’t believe she didn’t lose a finger.

I've worked in a deli too. There is nothing worse than getting a slicer cut even when the machine is off. I've seen and experienced preventable accidents happen to many times to mention. First your machine shouldn't be sliding on your counter. Put a damp cloth underneath like you would do with a cutting board so it doesn't move. Second, you have fingers and thumbs all over the place waiting for you to make the wrong move. Just like when your cutting something with a knife or any type of sharp instrument, always touch your index finger to your thumb on both hands, and the chance that you'll get cut will be next to nothing. Any other safety precautions are just common sense.
On a good note, thanks so much Tootie for sharing. Slicers are a fantastic tool to have in the kitchen if used and maintained the right way. After I wash, rinse, sanitize, and air dry my slicer and all my other appliances, I put a super light coat of food grade mineral oil on it, especially all the metal and moving parts. By doing that it will assure that the parts will not corrode or rust and I'll have the machine for years to come. A few other tips I have is to always keep a blow dryer in my kitchen to blow debris out of all my appliances and to help with the drying process. If you have the mechanical ability, another tip would be to get to the electronic components, especially the potentiometers ( on and off switches, speed switches, etc ) This usually involves taking out just a few screws. You'd blow out the debris with the hair dryer on cool, spray everything with electronic cleaner, then lightly spray with a electronic component lubricator. Doing that not only is for safety, but it helps to keep your components working properly, and ensures that your wiring doesn't get dry rotted. I only clean the electronics once in awhile depending on how often I use my machines, usually a few times a year for normal use.
Slicing bread on a slicer is a good Idea even if you don't make your own bread. You can buy fresh baked bread at a grocery store un-sliced, that's what I do. I slice what I need, enough for a few days. Your bread will last longer doing it this way, and I do meat and cheese like that for the same reason plus it's about half the cost or less slicing your own. One of my favorite things to do on a slicer is vegetables. I like thin slicing tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, radishes, and squashes. I also like shredding Iceberg lettuce. I keep it all in separate Tupperware containers in the refrigerator for ease of use. It last about a week before the quality starts to change for the worse. I find that when making a sandwich using thin sliced vegetables and shredded lettuce helps to keep your sandwich together so your not rebuilding it after every bite. That's just me, there are some people that don't mind playing with their food : )
Other than that Tootie, I say thanks again for your video, and I hope you don't mind my long long comment : ) I just thought I'd write a short novel hitch hiking on your video while I'm enjoying my morning coffee. Please take my advice on the slicer moving on the counter, and your fingers and thumbs all over the place and you'll be okay.

To the viewers, don't grab each slice as it falls, it looks like the slices should mostly fall into place, maybe turn the machine off and clear the pile occasionally. Not throwing shade, though, this is a very nice video and answered my question about whether a Cuisinart slicer can manage a normal sized loaf of bread. Thanks!

After bagging my bread, I'll insert a drink straw in the open end and suck out all the air before sealing the bag.

If you just let them fall, do they stack nicely?

Yes, how do you get it so soft! Please elaborate!
Do you use extra vital wheat gluten?

    So much more healthy, RESPECT.
I got a good recipe from online that uses milk rather than dried milk and wonder why it would ever need to be dried milk when it could just be milk. It was so delicious in our Zojirushi bread machine, but cutting is awful. I freeze it and toast it straight from the freezer and it's amazing!

All the nutcases thinking she was going to lose a finger... GET REAL! She did a great job. Her hands were never in danger. Her primary dominant hand was on the pusher, and her left hand was behind the cutting side catching the bread. There was no danger, it's just the angle of this video. Seriously! This isn't a Woolworths deli meat slicer where your digit is lost in a second. Geez... 🙄 Great video btw👍👍

If you hold the loaf against your body and somewhat "hug" your bread, it will squeeze all the air out.
Also... How long can you freeze your bread? Can't wait for the recipe!!!

I'm not a professional meat slicer but I know for a fact what you did is WICKED dangerous and you're going to seriously injure yourself one day. Nobody should pay attention to this "technique".
