  • Today I talk about raising your own beef. I have been doing it for many years. Even with a small place it is easier than what you might think. Thanks for watching Please subscribe

Excellent video. I was born and raised in the horse business. My exposure to cows was helping neighbors with branding, vetting and chasing... It makes sense that the whole corn would keep better. Nature put that shell around it for a reason. You are clearly doing what you love and it shows. Thanks for sharing with us.

Your program is working for you. Other folks don't have exactly the same situation as you. Therefore, what works for someone else won't work for you. I've worked a small beef operation before, and they had a program that worked for them. Like my Mom used to say, if it isn't broke don't try to fix it! We have a horse operation. We have rations set up for our animals that fluctuates by season and by condition of the animals. Our foaling process is hands on. We imprint our foals. Meaning, right after birth they are handled an exposed to things that will touch them in their lives. Like brushes, hoof picks and such. I'm thankful that we have never had a customer complain about a horse that we sold or a horse that we trained. Keep up the good work that you do. Change only what you feel that you need to change.

Thanks for the great comment I am a firm believer in the imprinting. I raise a few horses and it is a ton of fun. I follow the cow horse breeding High brow cat. dual rey stuff. I do love raising my own beef. Thanks for watching

Thank you for your video. I used to raise a couple steers every year but I got tired of them breaking out all the time. I used to feed them just like you do and loved the meat but I always wondered if there was a better way. I'm thinking of doing it again and was glad to hear how you feed. I'll feel better knowing I'm doing it like others who know a lot more than I do. I really enjoy your channel. Please keep the videos coming.

This is one of the best channels on CZcams. I’d love it if you’d talk some more about this. I’m looking at land now for this exact purpose. How much land does your operation take?

Thank you for the kind words. I hope about 1 million of your closest friends think the same way haha I am running about 50 acres of farm ground. This includes lease ground. With only an acre or so you could raise a couple of beef and enough garden to supply most of the food needed. I am going to get into a better garden for sure. I wished I would have paid attention to my grand parents more. We as a generation are losing those skills. Thanks for watching

That's a great video, Chris! You've even got me thinking about picking up a couple of calves. I probably won't, but you make it seem very doable.

I don't think it's too prideful to derive satisfaction from feeding your own family. I think it's just natural.
I would very much like to at least grow my own food but I live in an apartment; I do have a balcony but it doesn't get the right kind of light, for the most part. Can't store a pair of cows out there but I might try for tomatoes or something this year.

I think you will be surprised what you can grow out there. Maybe you could find a local beef producer and buy a part of a local raised beef. I know sometimes you can work with a local butcher shop and they can help you find beef raised by local producers. At lease you know what you are getting Thank you for all of your great comments
