Shalom! I really enjoyed Dr. John's talk about Beef Cows and their selection. I gained a great wealth of knowledge, and I do thank Dr. John. Blessings to Dr John, his family and all of you at Beef School.

Years ago I read an interesting article in Progressive Farm Magazine about a Farmer from Tipton County, Tennessee? THAT raised registered Charlais cattle but, the caveat was he bred his heifers to American longhorn cattle basically because he wanted the lighter bithweight calves that he got in preference to breeding the first time with his Charlais Bulls.. these cross breeds birthed at 60 to 70 lbs then based on ease of calving and mothering he retained cow selection for the Charlaise registered herd he wanted light crossbred calves for general beef sales. HE had determined that the heifers had an easier time delivering calves than the heifers that were bred to Charlais bulls...90 plus lbs at birth less breech births.

There's been a big shift to breed longhorn and corriente cows to Charolais and other beef breeds for the same reason. The calving ease and doability of the Spanish influence cows is superior to the majority of cows from improved breeds

Why would you need 1400 lb. cows ? My cows are 850-1050 lbs. and I make good $$$

What breed of cows do you have? I agree, reducing cow weight is a key to profit.
