Wheat School: Be on alert for stripe rust
zhlédnutí 144Před dnem
When a detrimental fungus can travel as far and fast as stripe rust can, it is well worth being vigilant about. With susceptible varieties of wheat, this damaging crop disease can impact yields by anywhere between 50 to 90 per cent. Agronomists in southern Manitoba have identified the disease in wheat fields this week. In this Wheat School, Dr. Kelly Turkington, plant pathologist with Agricultu...
Corn School: Fungicides strategies for an uneven crop
zhlédnutí 211Před dnem
It's been a tough spring for planting corn in Ontario. Planting season started in late April and some growers are now just getting their last acres in the ground during the final days of June. That seven-week planting season will present challenges for growers as they try to assess yield potential and apply fungicides to protect the crop against disease and optimize yield. On this episode of th...

Corn School: Pre-emergent weed control gives corn what it wants
zhlédnutí 403Před dnem
Rainy weather during the in-crop weed control season can make it difficult to give corn want it wants to maintain maximum yield potential: that long critical weed-free period. The difference between fields that received pre-emerge applications and those that did not is quite noticeable in southern Manitoba this year, as regular rains have prevented timely in-crop spraying, while activating pre-...
Wheat School: Considering nymph counts in grasshopper control thresholds
zhlédnutí 83Před dnem
Grasshoppers, both pest species and not, thrive in dry conditions. When back to back (to back) years end up in a dry cycle, grasshopper populations can explode and wipe out a crop. One year of higher moisture isn't likely to undue that lifecycle bump, so farmers in Saskatchewan and Alberta need to stay vigilant on emerging pest grasshopper populations. As discussed in this Wheat School episode ...
The future of seeding technology is focused on adapting on-the-fly
zhlédnutí 53Před dnem
Seeding technology has come a long way in a short time, but the same general principles apply: deliver seed in a uniform rate, at the desired depth with very little seed damage, with good furrow closure and pressure, all while rolling over changing terrain. Figuring out how to achieve all those goals is a daunting task, and every brand of seeding equipment approaches the goal from a slightly di...

Beef Market Update: Slower trade, shifting leverage, and strong export demand
zhlédnutí 65Před dnem
A mid-week U.S. holiday this week didn't affect beef kill but closed futures and packers wanting to dial markets back from last week's new cash high combined for slower trade for beef markets. In this week’s Beef Market Update, Anne Wasko with the Gateway Livestock Exchange, says cattle feeders want to keep the momentum rolling but there's a lot of push and pull in the marketplace. In Western C...

Unfortunate it doesn’t apply to the present government propaganda.
What’s the product been used?
Good video
Talking about winter corn. What months do you plant it. Then harvest it.
Largest model?
Why are farmers still talking about the same fertilizer problems as we were in the 1990s? And why is there so much disinformation about it? Stop listening to the people who sell stuff. Do your own on farm trials and test not only your soil but foliage as well. . Go back to a 10 or 7 inch row. Too
Sow, grow, harvest, Wheat Pete!
Thank you for the videos! From Kansas
Thanks for watching!
How in the hell do you measure1, 2, 3, 4 inches of water to put on corn?? It's so easy to say oh, this vegetable needs 3 inches of rain blah blah blah, but no one tells you how to measure inches of water with a garden hose.....
If you had good soil. And not destroyed dirt. You wouldn’t have to add anything.
Is this 80x80?
Great discussion love the Friday panels !!
Thanks, we love them too!
Doesn’t BASF make camera film too?
"Nothing Runs Like A Deere" 🦌 👍 🇺🇲
Is there an average pound loss of nutrients from baling the straw versus s po reading it? Or is it field to field based? I have a strong straw bale business
Excellent question. I'lll pass this on to Wheat Pete!
The goat
Are they using a 6 in spaceing or 12 ? And does it have a benefit for the crop
Can inoculant be spray on after soybeans come up ? Adding molases to inoculant help to feed and sevive in the soil?
No, inoculant has to be on the seed, so it's picked up by the emerging plant structures. Proper handling of inoculant before application keeps it alive and working (i.e avoiding extreme heat, letting it sit in the seeder tank)
What do you guys think of the bio Agronox bio stimulants from Manitoba
Mine canola has been growing pretty quick!
sheinbaum was the only valid option, the opposition can barely run their own parties. They pocketed money meant to go for their campaign. Also the opposition doesn't support big farms to contradict the comments. My family has some vineyards in the state of zacatecas and frankly we didn't notice a difference AG wise between former governments and the current one.
This tax is simply a way to take the sacrifices that people made in order to build these farms and businesses and confiscate it and pretend to distribute it among the poor the average Canadian consider making the sacrifices that these people have. So the average Canadian will think it’s wonderful to take away something from someone else. It’s a sick form of revenge and the government is shameless enough to take advantage of it. It’s the same psychological principle behind what made the holocaust possible, just in a different context.
Very helpful! Thank you for sharing this podcast!
Sounds like fear of change to me
Mexico just make a big corn deal whit Brazil 🇧🇷
Haha self reliance, you kidding me you don’t know stuff Amlo only help famers who has 7 acers or less u kidding me they don’t wanna help famers no state can survive only on so small famers
This amlo is way more corrupted, any other president in history
U r talking about Mexico like u know a lot but come live here for a while u would say total difference stuff about the national guards and everything you don’t know much about what they doing what they have planned to do
The wrong women won in Mexico it’s bad I’m Mexico farmer and the Claudia does not help farmers at all
How can this be applied to lawns and flowerbeds?
A great discussion, wider ranging than the usual market commentary about the news of the moment, thank you!
Are you using a strip teel with the planter attached what do you think about that set up
Don't deal with Grain fox. Neil Townsend is corrupt and ignorant. He was useless on the CWB. Just a narcissist who needs to be heard. There is better analysts out there
Thank you! Enjoyed, as always.

If your average count is per say 30 plants per square foot.. what is the range or variability in your plant count per square foot ? mine was 20-37 this wk on my own wheat stands which I thought is highly variable !
There’s definitely variations there, but it’s not uncommon to vary between 20-37 plants/ft2 in individual plant counts. If you have concerns about the field being variable, it is helpful to count more spots to get a good average. Keep track of the numbers over multiple fields/years to see how different factors (seeder, soil conditions, etc) change the emergence % and variabilities. Hope it helps! - Ruoxi Xia, Alberta Grains
Why does it matter if the grass gets long?
Because too long/tall and the plants will cover the panels, decreasing the amount of power captured

Looking to use Fungi with Egyptian Wheat for Deer bedding and screens in North Central Texas also fungi with cowpeas
This was very interesting!
Pete, what's the deal with wheat seeding around Apr 8 on eastern ND. There is no wheat growing in streaks throughout the field. It is coming up spotty finally but a whole month behind the same wheat in same field. Moisture was nice and even when planted.
I always learn something from your program. Great comments about corn! I remember the u70s and 80s. Most guys were still planting into late June . .
