  • In his weekly clinical update, Dr. Griffin reviews the recent statistics on SARS-CoV-2 infection, before discussing methods for sterilizing filtering facepieces, an update to the fall COVID boosters, the emergency use application of a pre-exposure prophylactic and where to find it and drug interaction database, convalescent plasma, the effectiveness of the monoclonal antibody sotrovimab against Omicron variants, what to do when healthcare workers succumb to SARS-CoV-2 infection, the need for better nursing resources, how survivors of COVID-19-associated ARDS exhibited sustained elevation in endothelial dysfunction biomarkers, correlating with the severity of impaired gas exchange, reactivation of latent CMV as a consequence of a SARS-CoV-2 infection, identification of variables that might impact or predict a person’s time to recovery from an acute SARS-CoV-2 infection and if COVID-19 patients really have olfactory dysfunction more often than normally smelling individuals.

      Actually hadn’t seen that. I do think it depends on the demographic. An uptick in Covid and flu cases is more likely going to concern group over 65 or immunocompromised (eg getting chemo). An uptick in measles cases is more likely to concern those with children. An uptick in bird flu is more likely to concern chicken farmers. Etc

    "Patients admitted with covid19 to hospitals with better nursing resources pre-pandemic... were significantly less likely to die."
    My sister is a critical care nurse and that absolutely tracks. Nurses are the infantry. Their job is to go out there every day and try to win all the dirty little battles.

      And now, with so many nurses quitting or dying, we are not at that point of readiness. I know a town that has lost all their MDs. Not a small town.

  • @4everyoung24
    @4everyoung24 Před 4 dny +7

    Perhaps I’m biased because I’m a nurse, but I have always said you can have a mediocre doctor and a good nurse and he or she will keep you safe and possibly be the one element of your care that saved your life.
    And you can have an excellent doctor and a terrible nurse and have terrible outcomes with the nurse being the one element of your care that caused your preventable death.
    We join together to make a chain of care around a patient. Nursing just happens to be the most directly linked to the patient. We are with them all day. If a nurse calls a doctor and says, “Hey, something’s wrong,” you best listen.

    Concerning the 20% increase mortality of hospital patients for Covid when there’s a high workload for the professionals, that’s just another reason to use preventative medicine: namely, lifestyle changes.
    I went Whole Foods plant-based to fix my cholesterol that worked but it also fix my blood pressure high resting heart rate and weight. I did all that seven years later and I’m still fine.
    So I never went on the diet too reduce my chances of infectious disease, but apparently there is a major benefit on this diet.
    Avoiding the hospital and all the errors that happened at hospitals is another very big reason

    I live in California and I currently have COVID. When my illness started I just had nausea, chills, and a pain under my left breast. The next day I had a runny nose. Day three I couldn't stay awake. Tried to watch TV and feel asleep nearly immediately. The tired I felt was likely nothing I experienced before. Had to push food, no appetite. Also had a fever. Day 4, today, I feel better but have a cough. I can stay awake now which feels great! Not 100% but much better.

    Please consider adding a short glossary of some terms used in the podcast it would further our understanding, offer some clarifications and be good for key word searches on Google.
    PASC, ARDS, SARS, endothelial cells, etc. but also terms that are, I think, too quickly dismissed, terms like "overwhelm the immune system" which may be a misnomer for concerns about the inflammatory responses from concomitant vaccine administration or multiple boosters.

    • @DerrithWieman
      @DerrithWieman Před 5 dny

      re concomitant vaccine administration: getting a couple vaccinations on the same day is a tiny, tiny, tiny percentage of the germs your immune system is exposed to and successfully fights on your behalf every day - the general environment is a soup of constant exposure whether or not you wash your hands, produce, etc.
