    My 2003 Civic EX had this error for months. It was losing acceleration but once it began stalling and misfiring I tried harder and found your video. The intake manifold's EGR paths to cylinder 1 and 2 were completely blocked and the others were hardly better. Thanks for the tutorial, it gave me enough confidence to do it. It's running great now!

    Thanks for the video! It allowed me to do a thorough cleaning of the intake manifold on my 2005 Civic. I did find some additional nuts and bolts that needed to be removed: 1) the bottom of the intake manifold was supported by 2 brackets with a total of 3 bolts and 3 nuts; 2) Removing the injector base stiffener revealed an additional bolt attaching the manifold to the engine block and allowed access to the final bolt attaching the manifold (which you accessed from the bottom of the car); 3) Removing the bracket attaching the throttle cables to the valve cover; 4)removing the bracket behind the valve cover (I don't know its specific name). But, I could not believe how much carbon was caked into the intake manifold passages! P0401 problem solved!

    It helps. I didn't realize that I also needed to clean carbon out of my idle air control valve when I cleaned my EGR passages. This is no big deal. I will order a new gasket for that valve today even though the other one looks fine. Then I will remove the airbox again and clean out that valve. Sorry to have been such a pain. This is by far the most ambitious car thing I have ever done and there has been a learning curve. But I am glad I learned how to do something for myself. Thank you! I subscribed. What an excellent video very detailed and at great pace. I got the UK version of this I get a P01710 tool lean code during stand still traffic on idle, both long and short term fuel trip goes up 20% to trigger fault code. Usually they are running 10-15% long and short fuel trim, I can't figure it out I don't see any vaccum leaks, spraying carb cleaner near bottom of throttle body the STFT and LTFT both drop. Cleaned out throttle body changed the MAP, your video showed me how to take out the injectors so will change them next. I can't find the throttle body gasket anywhere parts, i assumed it was that instead I used RTV to seal the body. I think I messed it up doing a crazy RTV job, wish I never did it. I hope I can removed the throttle body now.

    Hello Jbolanos. Thanks for the video. After doing it yesterday, only the bottom center nut and two outer bolts need to be removed before pulling the intake and egr plate assembly. I removed the bottom center nut from up top too, with a 12mm combination wrench. It's tight, but doable. No need to pull the oil filter. The other two nuts hold the plate to the intake, and you don't have to remove them prior. I saw no intake supports on your video, mine had two underneath. Just a fyi, no need to strain under the car, if you don't have to!

    • @Jbolanos10

    I just wanted to thank you so much for the tremendous help you gave me in taking this step by step like you would with a newbie, which I am. I believe this is by far the best video on CZcams for this issue and model. My mechanic is very busy and doesn't have time for this. You not only taught me a lot but because of the clarity of your video I really do understand how this works now. My only question would be is there any chance the exhaust manifold might need to be removed and cleaned, somehow, also in the case of severe carbon buildup. My new scanner says I am level 2 out of 3 in EGR insufficiency. In other words, there is a danger that my 2 year old catalytic converter could be damaged if I don't clean this up pronto.
    You helped me. I didn't see a donate button, but in your case I would be happy to donate. Thank you!

    • @Jbolanos10
      @Jbolanos10  Před 4 lety

      seriouslynow22 the only way I could think of on cleaning your exhaust manifold, is by adding some fuel system cleaner made for the catalyc .. it would unclogged what ever is clog and you know it helps to by gas economy, .. for your egr you can spray carb cleaner to it if you do take it off “very easy to remove” or after you replaced the Intake gasket and add the fuel system cleaner it will clean it to but it will take days compare to if you take it off and spray directly

    HELP!!! I managed to do this job because of the excellence of this video. My EGR system was totally clogged. Unfortunately I created another problem for myself on re-assembly. Two guys down the street were nice enough to help me get my intake back in. Then they started reassembling some things. In the process of their much appreciated work part of the throttle body assembly is lost. In the back of the throttle body is a slot on either side that holds a small metal piece with a wire built inside. I think hese help the throttle to properly open and close with correct timing. I had removed those metal things and set them aside out of fear they would get lost. The guys put the throttle body back on. The car is running lean and I now have a code P)505 1/2 Pending. Upon removing the air box I saw that one of those metal inserts is missing. Do you happen to know what those things are called. I can't see anyplace to purchase them separately online. I have been 6 days w/o my car. I wonder if I have to buy a whole new throttle body. Any ideas?
    Despite these headaches I really learned a lot doing this job. I couldn't have done it without this video have been done step by step and with really good camera work.

      Hii 👋 P.H
      To remove the fuel rail just wiggle the rail side to side (up and down , left and right) and then try holding it from the side and pull out gentle.. if it still don’t wanna come out slowly use two hands and hold one end of the rail and pull till it unseals then the rest should come pretty easy.
      -or another way but it’s more dangerous because you could damage the rail is using a screw driver to make lever and pull out ..

    • @Jbolanos10
      @Jbolanos10  Před 4 lety

      Toxib car idle should be 600-800rpm... if it’s over 1,000rpm then your throttle stays open a little and is allowing false air that’s wht is call... if you have p0304 and after replacing your plugs and coil still not solve the issue .. check for a pulse injector on cylinder #4 and also using a ohmmeter check and see if any voltage is getting up to the cylinder #4 coil ... or just as simple you could use a spark test light and that would answer if you getting spark then you could just check for pulse on injector ... if you also have the p0401 Honda’s are notorious for accumulating a lot of carbon build up on intake and clogged the passages .. if passages are clogged that’s most likely why you have cylinder #4 misfire... is cheaper replacing intake gasket rather than buying a expensive egr that is most likely not the problem ... I’m sorry for this long text

      Toxib cleaning the egr and the passage you say on the egr is non but the tube that runs down to the intake... and where most adds up .. you could try a fuel system cleaner but I really doubt it will unclog it

      @Jbolanos10  Před 5 lety +1

      Daniel de-bross...
      Heyyyyy glad you liked the video!!!
      Most of the times it will show an egr code but once you take it off and clean it or replace it. And if the code still persist, 9/10 It will be the passages in the plate .. in this case the plate that the car had it wasn’t the OEM. Which is why it wasn’t getting no air flow..
      It is also recommended you replace the plate if you remove the Intake, However if you decide to clean it it is your choice

      @Jbolanos10  Před 5 lety +1

      Daniel de-bross no need to drain the oil, just by removing the oil filter should be ok, because there is a bracket that you do have to remove that holds the intake..

    • @Jbolanos10
      @Jbolanos10  Před 5 lety

      jose Rivera,
      P0301, there’s a few steps on how to check that cylinder 1
      1- swap coil & reset code , start and leave it running till the light comes back on again look it up and if the code chased the coil then is the coil if it stays the same ..
      2- change spark plug and make sure you gap them to OEM.
      3- with car running unplug the harness from injector 1 if it runs rough the the injector could be doing its job or could be clogg. ( remove rail and clean or replace)
      4- look up how much compression your cylinder should have and compare it if it’s less then it could be a leak on your block or bad valves
      I hope this helps if I were you I’ll look up the injector and either clean or replace but most important if you do remove the rail replace O-rings from injector or carefully re-use it tho is not reccmnd.

      Might wanna have to check your fuel pressure if it’s btween (260-310kpa with vacuum hose disconnected) or (200-250kpa with vacuum hose connected) it should be fine .. ..
      Do a compression check it should be normal (184psi) or minimum (135psi) maximum variation is (28 psi)
      The p1399 Honda/Acura has reported for various models that it could be caused by a clogged egr ports..
