Cracked Excavator Hydraulic Cylinder Weld Repair | Machining & Welding
Vložit
- čas přidán 9. 12. 2020
- In this video we are repairing a cracked hydraulic cylinder off a 22 Tonne excavator shear attachment that has a crack right through the weld joint. To repair we have to remove the port for access to the weld joint and then machine the barrel end completely off. The ends are setup in the lathe and machined for weld prep before MIG welding with metal cored wire to complete.

Hey love your work. Just want to know how much a job like that cost?
Just want to say Thankyou for going to the effort to show customers the procedure to repair this cylinder you can add to your list cutting edge filming production
You have a cool best friend. What's his name ?

Nice to see your safety officer wears his vest when on duty.
I love how escorts him with the drop off to.

Unfortunately the dog has no choice in the matter!..
I hope the safety and morale officer pay is commensurate to his efforts😊

I worked in a rock quarry here in the usa. I did everything in house except for the cylinder work. I would pull the cylinder off and send it out for whatever ever it needed. It's good to see the work that goes into quality repairs. I have since retired but still like to watch a person that takes pride in their work.
Where abouts were you working?
@@mattscoinsnstuff5686 I used to work for Hanson aggregates in northern New York

Таких специалистов очень мало, приятно смотреть, удачи .
My dad was a Korean war vet and used his GI school bill to attend and graduate Voreehs tec in NY, he was a tool and die, guy. I still can smell the machine oil he came home with coming from his clothes. My first year of high school after Junior High exams was a tech High school where I learned mechanical drafting, blueprint reading, and understanding. I remember shop classes (electrical, woodworking, and metal ). I did not pursue this skill but find it extremely valuable in working on my house and building projects I take on...The irony of this is I followed my father into the military ( a hospital corpsman ) and used my GI school bill to become a BA IN Nursing (RN) and an Associate Degree in Computer Science (I build and network computers with LINUX and Widows). Yet the most joy I get is from using tools and building, My Father was right. We need to bring trade schools back to our youth instead of Internet or computer interest.
Coming from a former welder, I'll say that you have some mad skills!
Hey mate always appreciate support from those who know! 😎👍
nice to have a set of electric rolls to get that perfect bead . good to see the pre heat too . i used to repair and build new rams for all kinds . trick is lots of heat. before , during and after the welds are done . once you start welding dont stop till all the lands are full . always try to run a min 330 amps 1.6 mm 11ni flux core . lay those lines like rolling rope onto a drum . never ever weave ! shows up in the x-ray as waves . instant fail
Always a welder, never former.
"coming from a former welder"
so your mother was a welder, correct?
@@tallswede80 obvious you were never a gun ! only the shop punch !
I am a mechanic not a welder, but I truly appreciate watching a craftsman doing his (or her) job with skill and precision. However, Your channel would not be what it is today without the skill of person behind the camera. Your video shots are clear, sharp, and positioned to show the necessary steps without being redundant and are educational. Good video editing is a skill not easily learned and your editor is excellent. I and I am sure many other of your viewers would like to be introduced to the "voice" and maybe some information on the video equipment you use.
True dat. For real though, the camera work and editing is darn good. The synergy between Curtis and Karen is great. I think we "early adopters" will see this channel break 1 mil before 2022 is over.

I realize this is 6 months old, but they do have a video out that shows Karen. It is a Q and A. They do not show the video equipment though.

@@highpointsights The camera work is of the finest, very very professional. It's a tribute to Kurt's craftsmanship. On a 1-10, I give it a 12. Really nice job both of you.
Especially as even the mundane change of a chuck is shown in detail here, I get my apprentices to watch your channel so they can see how using the right rods and reels can affect which method they should use to do a task, keep it up and don't stop the outtakes.

I cant believe that dog does all the welding. So skilled.
There is ukrainian turner on CZcams - Dyad'ko Maksym / Дядько Максим, his dog does hardening of metal. There is nothing unusual, that dogs doing hardest work. 😁
The dog does quality control. Do an bad weld and he bites you.
I hear that once off camera, the dog does the driving as well.
Something really satisfying watching you work whilst I'm sat inside my home in Lockdown in Yorkshire, England. I'm not a welder and whilst I'm now retired I wouldn't mind going back to Technical College to learn. Thanks for the inspirational videos.
English got no guns or a politician with nutz. Im at the beach. Watching CZcams.
No no no, before I went away, I specifically told you, that one over there, I wanted refurbishing. This one was the badly cracked one for scrap. Retired know, but love to watch a fellow craftsman at work, and the end, brilliant. People dont understand the time and effort involved. Clean that up, put some weld on, need it back by tonight. Ho ho. Excellent vidio.

Yeah, like you are just standing around waiting for them to bring in something that they broke and that you can drop everything and fix it straight away. :-/ Yeah, I see that all of the time at the school I work at.

The dog heard the welder and was like

I hadn't seen it until the (new to me) Nuttall I just got had a Jacobs chuck live centre. Great idea.
I’ve been in the repair business for over fifty years. I have made, refurbished, and repaired countless hydraulic cylinders. One thing that is needed is
I'm curious how you maintained the original length of the cylinder. I imagine it would be possible to remove or add a couple mm during this process and I would think that would affect the cylinder install and function (perhaps allow over-travel).
Was just about to write the same thing.
im more curious about the round of the barrel after welding on it
@@ferrari2k same question came to mind
I know nothing of machining or welding or even engineering but was asking the same question of myself.
i imagine he measured out the punch holes and used them for both alignment and length and has the manufacturer specification. it is curious though seeing him machine both ends and seemingly butt the ends together.
Another demonstration of a talented engineer who combines a sound knowledge of materials, tools and creative thinking.

And he didn't
But I guess the customer had no problems with the cylinder being a bit shorter after repair?
