I came here to post this exact comment. This is what separates MCM from Tavarish and all the other click bait junk. They buy cars because they love them not because it impresses 14 year olds. These guys could buy Ferraris for each foot if they wanted to but they just love building cool cars.

@@RangerColinLZ It's basically that, buying wrecked cars (that'll never be quite right again) for more money than I've spent on cars and parts since I passed my driving test, 20 years ago - and I've had some 'iconic' cars along the way. Sure, I'm envious, who wouldn't love a Mclaren or the like? But I'm realistic too; I'll never own a supercar like that, let alone throw another £40k in parts at it, so I don't find it as engaging. I love the MCM cars because I feel like I could potentially own any one of them, and enjoy them for what they are, or could be. That and the MCM cars keep making an appearance, rather than being 'done' (despite them blatantly not being done) and on to the next and never spoken of again. It's less like watching a show and more like hanging out with your mates.

I know a guy that has an old 4AFE Toyota Truck and he legit had a friend put a shotgun slug through the motor whe they were drunk. 1 welded sleeve later and the bastart runs with nothing more than an ocassional miss.
Saw the nose come out and was like "is it a Lancer? Is it a Subaru, no... ITS A TOTOTA SERA!" 😍🥳
As a side note guys I think this is my mates old car. It used to be like a candy maroon colour but the interior is the same. Was originally built for non other than Auto Salon and the rear was removed to accommodate a huge sound system. Hope that helps with your Automotive Archeology 👍🏻

People ask stupid money for these things now - no idea if they actually get it or not. Back around 2005 one of my workmates picked one up in good condition low K's for $2500, now I've seen them for sale for near the $10K mark - again no idea if they actually sell for that kind of money.

@@lucagrundmann9469 under rally conditions , it was a functional cooler that ducted onto the timing belt , they would stretch and skip , but I repeat under rally conditions , he 200plus omg in dirt or mud screaming along beating lancia and subarus

Starlets had a 1.3. Seras had a 1.5L 5EFHE, Paseo/Cynos had 5EFE.

This is 100% true. And it's not just the F1. It actually inspired a bunch of other McLaren cars. He saw it when he was designing the F1 in the UK. They actually borrowed one to start the design process

5e-fhe is the stock motor. Nothing like a camry. Basically a stroked 4e-fe slightly hotted up.
The 5e-fhe is actually the most desirable engine of the E series. 200cc larger, forged internals like the 4e-fte, and a better intake manifold. They can actually hold up to quite a lot of power/boost. The 5e-fe on the other hand has crap internals and turns into a grenade.

@@b3tth0l3 Turbo 5efhe engines have put down over 320whp here in the US and in PR that have made dozens of passes without failure on factory rods and pistons. Put that power into a 1800lb vehicle and you have one heck of a fun time.

I had a Nx2000 with the SR20 for awhile and always like the SERA cause they were similar, but we never got them in the states.
I love y'all's style. Find a car online and going off pics or nothing at all you buy it regardless. Sometimes you find some amazing nuggets of a ride.
That weird looking centre dash speaker is actually part of a factory fitted option from Toyota called the "Super Live Sound System" the SLSS consisted of 10 speakers in total, including a sub in the boot and a bar on the rear shelf designed to reflect off the glass, along with a specialist DSP to control it all. Presumably quite state of the art in its time!
If Marty hated the "rusty" MR2, he's going to LOVE this one. (Visible rust is always a tiny fraction of what lies beneath).

On the Celica GT4 the hole in the bonnet next to vent was to cool the timing belt. On this car it's to make it go faster.

@@ifluro Negative. The scoop leads directly into a little rubber duct that diverts air into the timing cover. Unfortunately on the street version, it's just for show. The alternator has its own duct that blows hot air under the car.

I remember a mate of mine had one of these. A awful smell came out of the air vents when you turned the fans on. Made driving around in Brisbane during Summer with a full glass roof quite an experience.

Metro was a mostly rebadged Suzuki Swift, which had a GTi version and a 4cyl instead of a 3 like the US had in the Metro early on. I'd love to see one on here.

The bonnet section is from a ST185 GT4 Group A Rallye in Aus, an RC in Japan or a Carlos Sainz limited edition in other markets. These all were the homologation special for the World Rally cars which had the 3SGTE fitted with the water to air intercooler, the "snorkel was to direct cooling air down to the timing belt.

That engine is a 5EFE, a 5E turbo is to be taken seriously, a good 5E on forged internals is capable of 300+HP...impressive for a 1.5liter
it's almost certainly a 4E-FTE out of a Starlet GT
Most turbo 4cylinder engines with forged internals should be good for that power. Even a 3cyl charade can do 300 on forged internals

@@dajaker101 not necessarily. The valve cover is a 4efte valve cover, as well as the intake manifold. It doesn't have the ACIS intake manifold. It could just have those parts changed, or the whole 4e head, or the whole engine. They would need to pull the oil pan and see what crank is in it, and horoscope the cylinders to see if the pistons are domed or dishes to see if it is a fhe, fe, or fte.
As someone who owned a 5efhe, this engine is definitely a 4efte. Someone just removed the top mount and put a ridiculously large front mount on it

5efhe is a 5efe with a forged crank and a bit bigger cam
Boom. A 4/5-EFTE. Such good little engines. If it's running the stock CT9 turbo you'll peak at just shy of 200hp... If that's a TD04 bolted on the end, you're good for 250hp+... And it weighs as much as a shoe. The earth's probably knackered hence the continual bonging and the stuttering...
