  • Tino’s labored breathing and a cough turned into something much more serious quickly. After a routine pediatrician appointment at 2.5 months old, his oxygen levels and heart rate started to fluctuate, and he was admitted to OCH immediately with a severe case of RSV.
He spent 12 days in the PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit - one week of that on a ventilator. While Tino’s parents were devastated, the nurses and doctors at OCH took the time to explain everything that they would do and assured them that this was the safest place for their baby to receive care.
The first time Tino ever smiled was when his parents were able to walk in the room after he was taken off the ventilator.
“He was in their hands when he couldn’t be in our hands,” says Tino’s father, Tony. “We’re thankful for them. The people that we met on the ninth floor, we’ll never forget them.”
