- Here we see the 1951 General Motors LeSabre concept car starting up and driving around at the 2017 Eyes On Design car show. This car was the brainchild and daily driven by Harley Earl, then head of design at GM. It was heavily influenced by fighter jets of the time. The car now resides at the GM Heritage Center in Michigan. Thanks to Jacob for allowing me to get a closer look at the 1951 LeSabre.

Man this car has so much cool stuff going on it has boggled my mind, what fun! Love how they though so out-of-the-box, such a strange design, mostly nice lines, and loving the old Buick lines and keeps on the chrome fender insets, what a cool car imho! Thanks for posting this gem!
This car is still amazing, 67 years later! It must have appeared as something out of Buck Rodgers back in '51! TY for sharing!
Buick Rodgers
The brake light resembles the flame from a jet engine when it's lit! How cool!
The cyclops eye headlights are badass too - the whole car is a visual treat but also simple and elegant....
I'll have mine in dark ouroke/black
That is exactly what it was supposed to resemble. The whole car was built and influenced by fighter jets back then.
"The Flame" = After burner!!!!
also looks like the adam west batmobile flame from the sixties !!
Correct, but I'd go for an actual flame thrower. It's a light, can be seen day and night, and sure to solve problem tailgaters, after their front end is fried from a brake check...
Great!!! A 2 seater with room for 10 in the trunk. Beautiful. Love the color.
Harley Earl actually used it as his daily. What a badass.
What a beautiful car! It has to be "marvelled", and not just looked at.
🤣🤣
I've never seen such an ugly piece of junk.
@@Bulletguy07 That's TWO of us against the rest!
One of Harley Earl`s creations. It`s ridiculous by todays standards but was a vision of the future back in the mid 1950s. I recall that Harley used it as a daily driver.
Coolest brake light coolest hidden headlights ever
I agree, just one gigantic tail light! Ban the annoying "Blinky-Blinky" tailights.
I love the tail light! And I love how when I saw the front grill I thought 'oh cool it's mirrored front and rear, that would be cool if there were head..." *flicks the headlights on* such a cool design!
Wow, for 1951 that was a radical design! It looked like a concept from the early 60s to me! How ahead of its time!
What a beautiful thing to behold! They don't have this kind of opulent styling these days! It is so over the top and cool at the same time.
That LeSabre has it all and rides so low to the ground. WoW! Amazing Automobile.
When I saw that guy closing the hood, I thought it wasn't just lowered, but shrunk.
That car is a piece of art!! What a beautyfull design.
masterpiece all around
The original 1951 Le Sabre Concept car was ahead of its time. More style and power than the 60's Batmobile in a real car! Great futuristic car.
From back in the days when GM actually built novel; cutting edge, state of the art cars and not the badge-engineered generic boredom they put out now!
Agreed!
Agreed!
now everything looks like a suppository
Which is ironic given the production model turned out to be _vastly_ different from the car we see here.
Well said, couldn't agree more!!!
The things they could do back in the day is amazing. From the body lines to the options. I bet it was cool to go to shows back then and see this in person when new.
Harley drove it as the pace car for the 1951 Watkins Glen sports car race. It's weight and bulk and airplane styling did not impress the MG/Jag/Alfa owners. That started Harley thinking of a US built sports car more like these. Two years later, that car appeared, the first Corvette.
Batman's daytime car!
WOW what a car!
Those hidden headlamps are cool!
This car is amazing. Hot damn!
Very futuristic for the 50's and way before it's time! It must have been a designers dream way back when!
that car is sick, i like how the exhaust are on the sides 👌 nice vid bro 💯
in the bumper yes
On the one hand ‘crass’ - on the other - a stying masterpiece!
Awesome design, very showy, higly eye-catching. Thanks for loading!
Absolutely, thank you for checking it out!
Nice!
Harley Earl was the king of Detroit designers.
Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely! If there was ever a time to be a car designer and actually be creative with it, that was the time. I would hate to be a designer in today's world!
@@DtRockstar1 Thanks for posting this clip, do you know Jacob?
@@rickearl8018 Yes, I do!
Wow! I didn’t know that jewel exist,amazing.
Such a cool car!
Wow! That is such a beautiful car!
Wonderful!
Amazing this car still ruuning. Very good sign. Good luck.
That car looks like the coolest Battle Cruiser of all time! Thanks!
Tucker: Look at me with my unique middle headlight!
Buick: oh isn't that cute
I am speechless. It's beyond beautiful. If only I won the lottery.
Wow, very luxurious and rare!
Not rare.
It's a one-off.
It's unique.
Man! Love the old futuristic look
One of the coolest cars I have ever ever seen.
Gorgeous car!
We need more of that kind of thing in the world today. Unbridled imagination. Beautiful piece of machinery.
What a beautiful design.
I got to ride in LeSabre at the 2003 Eyes on Design show, held that year at the GM Tech Center. It rode, felt and smelled like a 50+ year-old car.
Really cool and fine car , with fantastic color
Wow, cool car! Love it.
Amazing !!!
Truly beautiful
Im seeing some 53' Vette in that dash design! Love this car!
Harley Earl had a hand in the Corvette design.
Probably the same platform, just a different front and back end.
Wow, fantastic automobile!
I'm sure light position regulations prevented them from ever making a production vehicle with head and tail lights like this because I'm quite sure during the jet age this single point in front and back would've become common place in the industry, but man is that cool looking! Has to be one of the coolest flip-out headlight designs ever created!
Wonderful .
Very nice Purr.
Thankful.
Uma obra de arte
Still one of my favorites. 👍
Wow amazing
SPECTACULAR!!!!!!
Sitting in the PC chair, I took a deep breath, pulled my hair back, continued without breath and wondered in such beauty "By the gods what car is this ?!"
beautiful sound :)
Super, amazing!
That's old timey, Leon !
That is pure art
awesome Batmobile 😄 nice video 😎
I hope the height can be raised back up easily. Beautiful Work man!
Why??? Why was this gorgeous automobile not produced?? Hell.. I'd buy one now and drive it every day. That thing is beautiful!! What style, WOW.
WOW....perfect
I love pop-up Headlights. Its so cool !!!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous... space traveler...!
É fantástico, que lindo carro parece um avião!!!👍❤
Very cool 😎
That interior!!!!!
NICE!!
The engine sounds like a cement mixer.
Yes. a cement mixer.
:)
If there are cops ahead, how can I blink the high beam? Wait until the headlight (one-eyed) turns over?
Still better than Honda ricers
Those were the days of legendary designs. I miss them. 😩
Car of my dreams ! Woooow ! ......
Cool ! 👍😎
PIĘKNA MYŚL TECHNICZNA - GENIALNIE !
CHWAŁA MARZYCIELOM.
Hermoso!!😍
Nice ride
Cool!
I loooooove it !!
One of the most beautiful cars ever designed.
Big hood on that sweet car.
Coolest front & rear lights ever seen. Beautifully outrageous design. Back when the States built the best & most bizarre creations ever to grace a road (or auto show)
The 51 LeSabre is the most beautiful, most awesome looking car of all time.
Excellent awesome car👍👍👍👍
This is A Great plane!
I saw this driving on the street once .... 1951, leaving the Stout Field sports car races, in Indianapolis.
Hell yeah!!! 😍🤤
I have seen photos of gauges in center, and yellow paint on dials looked familiar to me. Is it glow paint with radium, like on old airplane dials?
Невероятная красота !
Woooowwwwww!
Very futuristic, for 1951! =)
it was a show car. it introduced the 215 ci aluminum supercharged solid lifter moderate lift cam so noise from engine it was made that low and had many features we saw through 50-60s
Cool, it looks like a car of the future
The chrome trim hid the hood lines so well I always thought it was permanently shut.
Nice cars super cool
DtRockstar1... Hey! Great video! I have seen the LeSabre a couple of times when it was featured at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance [@AmeliaConcours]. Wonderful car! But I congratulate you on getting the crew to demonstrate the headlights and pop the hood for you, neither of which I got to see. I hadn't seen the taillight lit up, either. (The car was parked when I saw it the first time and was on static display at The Amelia Concours the second time I saw it.) I guess I'll have to check out some of your other videos! Again, good work. Congrats!
Thank you very much!! I am so lucky to live in the Motor City, because all of the concept cars from GM and Chrysler are close to where I live and I get to see them in action like this. I have also filmed the Buick Y-Job, Firebird III concept, Corvette Mako Shark, and tons of others in action. Thanks again!
@@DtRockstar1 Put these clips up and let us see these Motoramic Masterpieces in Motordom!
I want one!
