- Primary consideration for any railway is safety. The signalling system must not be able to set up an unsafe condition; to this end points and signals are interlocked in order to prevent a conflicting route or movement. This model demonstrates one of the earliest tried and tested interlockings - mechanical - as found at many signal boxes even today.
Really interesting. We live on the Crewe - Derby line and still have our village signal box with its semaphore signals in our village. Its great its still there and it never fails to amaze me how the Victorians devised such amazing systems.
That’s a fabulous model. I’ve always been interested in signalling - one of my great grandfathers was a signalman at London Bridge station, before marrying the daughter of another signalman, and moving to Nottinghamshire where he worked for the LNER on the Great Central mainline near East Leake. In my pre-Uni days, I used to volunteer on the preserved Great Central at Rothley but left for Sheffield before I could progress to signalman.
It would be good to do on a preserved line.
One of the best CZcams videos I think I ever did see. Would love to own a peice of gear like that. I mean I can build most it’s just the interlocking frame beneath. That’s special
Zabardast bro My favorite hobby Of Pakistan Railways semaphore signals My hand made model ready for today At working conditions
Looks like a jack cooper special to me !
That was something different and interesting, like you,I love classic cars and British railways. What a superb model and have to ask, where on earth did you find it?Great video.👍
Crewe training school in the mess room.
I would like a closer look at the interlocking mechanism itself please.
I will try and get footage of a real signal box.
How long is the training for a signal worker
A year or two for operations but I am maintenance staff basic training three years.
Is that Crewe trains people? Looks very familiar
Yep. I was on a course there.
@@The_Car_Sanctuary decent little training centre with a decent SSI setup for its size.
